The Water Park

Yesterday I took Bailey to the Blue Bell Aquatic Center. It's not really a water park, but that's what she and her friend Kadon call it. It's a great pool for kids! The whole thing is no more than 2 ft. 8 in so Bailey can swim without floaties. We spent a lot of time at the banana split slide, but we did have to take a break for some Blue Bell ice cream!

Bailey's First Cleaning

Notice the title of this post doesn't say "Bailey's First Trip to the Dentist." Nope. That happened in May. The day after Campbell was born. The day of my induction, Bailey hung out with Nonnie and Bubba. At some point during the day she was playing in our living room (which has carpet) and fell face first. She ended up with bloody gums and her front tooth was crooked and pushed up into her gums. By the time they got to the hospital to see baby Campbell for the first time, her gums were bruised and the tooth was beginning to get dark. The next day Judd took Bailey to the dentist to have her checked out. They took x-rays and said that the tooth should come down and get lighter. Over the last two months, it did just that!

I took her back to the dentist this week for her first cleaning. They wanted her to go back by herself, but that wasn't going to happen. I was able to go with her and sit in the "Mommy Chair." The hygienist used her special electric toothbrush on only the front two teeth because Bailey was being a bit too squirmy. She ended up brushing Bailey's teeth and applying the fluoride treatment with a regular toothbrush. Bailey did go to the x-ray room by herself to have pictures taken of her teeth. Then the dentist came in, counted and examined her teeth, and assured me that her front tooth was doing well. We left with a red balloon and another appointment in six months.

Lunch Date

While Daddy was at camp last week, the kids and I went "home" to visit the grandparents. Bailey even made a trip to Colorado! (More on that later.) We spent a lot of time catching up with friends and family by having a few lunch dates. We went to McDonalds with Aunt Kim. Bailey had a great time playing while Kim and I visited. Then we met Joanne at the Galleria for pizza. Jo-Jo got to meet Campbell for the first time. He was even wearing an outfit that she gave him. The next day we ate lunch and had coffee with Linz. Bailey was already in Colorado and Campbell slept the whole time so Linz and I got to chat for hours - just like the good ole days. It was wonderful to see friends and family that we don't get to see very often. I treasure all of them more than they know!

Unfortunately, I only got my camera out once. Here's Joanne and Bailey.

Slumber Party

Bailey and Beau had their very first Slumber Party at Nonnie's last week! Nonnie was very brave to attempt this with two almost-three year olds. With the bed rails in place and Charlotte's Web in the DVD player, we all left the room knowing that they would not be going to sleep anytime soon. Not more than five minutes later, both girls were out of bed. Apparently Charlotte's Web is scary and they needed a different movie. Nonnie obliged and soon Toy Story was up and running. A few more minutes passed and they are calling for Nonnie. Imagine one of them yelling "NONNIE" at the top of her lungs and then the other doing the same. One after another. Classic. They needed to go to the bathroom. They took care of business, got back in bed, and Nonnie left. A few more minutes passed and the yelling starts again. This time they need a drink. Again, Nonnie delivered. But this time she also threatened. The girls were told that if they got out of bed or called for her again that she was going to turn the movie off and sleep right between them in the bed. That is not what they had in mind for their slumber party, so within 30 minutes both girls were sound asleep! I wonder if Nonnie will be trying this again anytime soon.

Charlie wanted in on the action too. She'll probably have to wait a few years for her first sleepover.

Catching up...

Since 2005 we have spent the Fourth of July with the Ferrells. The tradition was suspended this year due to my grandmother's passing. We plan on making it up soon. This year we spent the day with our families. We swam at Nonnie and Bub's (this is his new name thanks to Bailey and Beau) and then we had hamburgers and brats at Maw-Maw and Pop's. Here is Campbell in his red, white, and blue jammies.

Our little rock star. Our good friend Chelsea gave Campbell this onesie. Chelsea was in our youth group in San Antonio. Now she's a Baylor grad and will soon start law school. We recently discovered that she is the same age that Judd was when he started working at our church there. Man, that makes us feel old!

Here is the little guy playing on his activity gym. He's admiring the flashing lights. Major Cutie...can you argue with that? I think not.

Nonnie let us borrow this little thing. Campbell loves to hit the toys and listen to the music. Seconds (literally) before this picture was taken he was having a blast with it. He wore himself out and went right to sleep in the middle of playing!

Two Months

Image
The Stats:
Height - 24 1/2 inches (90-95th%)
Weight - 13 lb 2 1/2 oz (75-90th%)

Brother,
I can't believe that you are already two months old. (I'll probably say that every month!) You have grown and changed so much this month. You coo and smile at us often. It makes my heart melt. You grunt and toot like a man. That makes Daddy proud. You usually sleep about 10 hours straight at night. Thank you Jesus! You are staying awake for longer periods of time during the day. You love to play with your activity gym. The lights and music make you smile and you even swing at the toys! You still love your swing and take most of your naps there.

We made two trips to Kaufman/Garland this month. The first one was to tag along with Daddy when he took the students to a conference. The second one was for Nana's funeral. You are a pro at traveling! The change in scenery and sleeping accomodations don't phase you a bit. You have gotten to spend much more time with your grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins at this age than your sister did.

Your sister adores you. She rarely uses your name, but instead calls you "Brother." She has been wanting to help feed you, but she has trouble holding the bottle up so you can actually get something out of it! It's ok because her attention span is short and she moves on quickly. She still likes to give you kisses. Her long hair gets in your face and when we tell her that you probably don't like that, she insists that you do.

We look forward to month three!
Love,
Mom

What's in a name, revisited

I recently posted about each of our names. When we chose Campbell's name it was basically because we liked it. There was no real significance or family connection to the name. Or so we thought. We learned a few days ago that my grandmother was born in Campbell, Texas. It brought great joy to my heart (in the midst of sorrow) to know that my little boy has the same name as the birthplace of my Nana.

sad news

I got word at about 1:00 this morning that my Nana passed away. My family (mom, dad, kenny, aunt kim, and uncle boogie) were all there with her. Although I don't know yet when the funeral will be, we'll be heading home soon. While I was home this weekend I was able to visit Nana. She didn't open her eyes or speak the whole time I was there. It was heartbreaking to see her that way and bittersweet because I knew it would be the last time I'd see her. She was my last living grandparent so it's especially hard...
