Mr. C

Campbell Clark is thirteen months old. I didn't take the usual monthly picture on the 12th. I do have one from a week later. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep doing it or not. We'll see. I do want to document what Campbell is up to now that he is thirteen months.
  • Blows kisses
  • Word Count: Dad, Da-Da, Daddy, Mama, Bailey, Amber, Judy, bubba, ball, duck, bye-bye, hey, uh-oh,  baby, and love you (even though it sounds like uuu ooo)
  • He has turned into a Momma's boy now that I am home with him every day.
  • He's practically running - always on the move!
  • Loves his paci (pacifier.) He's been known to have three at a time - one in his mouth and one in each hand.
  • Still has six teeth
  • Still sleeps 12 hours at night
  • Likes swimming - doesn't like to be confined in a float though
  • LOVES TO EAT! He can't seem to get enough. He gets so mad when meal time is over! He likes pretty much everything we've given him. The only thing we have found that he doesn't like is fish.
  • He has mastered drinking through a straw and loves it!

Another Funny Bailey Story

Tonight at church, a junior high boy told Bailey that Campbell was his.

Bailey said, "No, he's MINE.  My mom bought him."

Swimming Lessons

Bailey started swimming lessons this week at the YMCA. This is her first time to take swimming lessons so we're excited about what she will learn. Here's a rundown of the first three days.

Day 1 - Judd took Bailey to her first swimming lesson because I just knew that she would be more willing to leave him to join a stranger in a swimming pool than me. She's just a momma's girl. We were right. She went right to her instructor and got in the water! At one point during the lesson, they were putting their faces in the water. Bailey said, "I can go under. My daddy taught me." Then she went all the way under the water. We're so proud!

Day 2 - I took Bailey on Tuesday and she was a little more hesistant to leave me to go to the pool, but she did it. She listened to everything the instructors said and tried everything they asked.

Day 3 - Distaster. Bailey started crying as soon as we set our stuff down. She did NOT want to go to the pool. No amount of threatening or bribery worked. I finally drug her (dragged her?) to the side of the pool and left her there with the instructors. She cried for about half of the lesson then just sat there and did nothing. While the other kids participated, she sat on the edge and watched. AHH! She FINALLY started to participate in the last five minutes. We had a long talk on the way home about it and we're hoping tomorrow will be better. When I asked her why she cried, she said, "I just wanted you." So sweet, but seriously????

Here are some pictures from Day 2:

Update: Day 4 was a success!  Bailey picked out a prize at Target the night before with the understanding that she could only have it if she did not cry and listened to her teacher at swimming lessons.  We are not above bribery around here!  Bailey was so proud of herself for being a big girl and earning her prize!

Happy Birthday/Happy Father's Day

My birthday was on Father's Day this year. Twenty-eight years ago I was born on Father's Day and was the best gift my dad ever received. Ha! My parents and Kenny & Meike came into town for the occasion. Kenny's birthday is the day before mine so we always celebrate together. Mom and Dad gave us money to go out to dinner while they kept the kids. Free dinner & free babysitting was the best gift ever! We went to PF Changs and really enjoyed eating dinner out with other adults! When we got home, we had homemade strawberry cake and homemade vanilla ice cream. Yummy!

On Sunday, my whole family got to come to church with us. The kids sang a couple of songs from VBS. Bailey didn't last long. She stood at the front pouting with her arm reached out to Judd and me on the front row. Finally, she just joined us there. After church we came home and ate lunch before everyone left. We spent the rest of the day relaxing as a family.

I am so thankful for my husband. Our children are so blessed to have a Dad like him. In a world where so many fathers are "hands off," Judd is definitely a hands on dad! He will jump right in and do anything for his kids. And they know it. They adore their daddy! And he adores them. Happy Father's Dad, Judd!

I am also thankful for my own Father who is still always there for me when I need him. He works very hard and still makes time to do things for others, especially his family. He is the most handy man I know. He can fix just about anything! I almost always have a list for him when he comes into town. Happy Father's Day, Daddy!

VBS

This week has been a busy one for us! We all participated in Vacation Bible School. It all started on Sunday with the VBS Kick-Off. Judd took care of all the technology and supplied snacks for the volunteers. I taught the third and fourth graders - love that age group! Bailey and Campbell had a great time with their friends and teachers.

This is our friend Lawsona and I at the Kick-Off right after a sack race, which I won by the way!

Family Night - this was about two seconds before Bailey saw me
and left the stage to sit in my lap

There was a contest between the boys and girls to see who brought the most offering. If the girls won, Judd would get a pie in the face. If the boys won, Lawsona would get a pie in the face. What do you know...it was a tie and they BOTH got a pie in the face!

Here are a couple of funny Bailey stories from this week:

The kids learned about Peter this week. On Thursday, Judd asked Bailey what she learned.
B: We learned about Peter.
J: What about Peter?
B: He was the rock.
J: What else?
B: He got in the water to see Jesus and he got his outfit wet.

One day during VBS, Bailey saw Campbell with his teacher. She told his teacher that Campbell was her baby brother. Then she said, "You know how I know he's my brother? We have his crib at my house."

She never ceases to crack me up!!

A Trip to the Beach

Bailey had never been to the beach.  She'd seen the beach on T.V.  She'd read about the beach in books.  She even talked about the beach like she'd been there.  So Judd and I decided that we really needed to take the girl to the beach this summer.  Last week I researched hotels in Galveston and found a STEAL of a DEAL for this week!  So we left on Monday for our first family trip to the beach.

We couldn't check in to our hotel until 4:00,
so we went to the beach first.

Bailey LOVED the water!

Campbell LOVED the sand!

After a couple of hours on the beach, we checked in to the hotel.
We stayed at the Hotel Galvez.  Like I said, STEAL of a DEAL!

Is 8:30AM too early to go to the beach?  Nope. We were the only ones there and it wasn't hot! It was much better than trying to entertain two children (that woke up way too early) in a small hotel room!
