The week of the plague

Ok, so maybe I'm exaggerating, but it sure felt like the plague last week!

It all started on Saturday afternoon following Campbell's birthday party (more on that in another post.) We went out to dinner with our family and I noticed that Bailey looked really tired. I attributed it to the full day of playing and didn't think much of it. By the time we got home though, she was running a fever. Poor baby! We dosed her up with Tylenol and put her to bed. She woke up on Sunday morning with a 102 degree fever. We gave her Tylenol or Motrin and by 10:00 AM the fever was gone, which is a good thing because she was getting baptized that morning. (that's another post too.) We were able to keep her fever down with the meds, and she slept most of the afternoon.

Judd stayed home with her on Monday, and took her to the doctor. Diagnosis: cold. Because she didn't have a fever all day, she returned to school on Tuesday. That evening, she looked pitiful and was running a fever again. Judd stayed home with her again on Wednesday and by that afternoon she was looking and feeling like herself again. We packed her backpack because she was going back to school!

During the middle of the night she started throwing up and was running a 103.5 degree fever! We put her in the bathtub to bring the fever down. She finally went back to bed and ended up sleeping until 1:00 the next afternoon. Judd called the pediatrician to let them know she had been running a fever for five days, and they prescribed an antibiotic - thank goodness! After sleeping all day, and not running fever on Thursday, Bailey returned to school on Friday. She was in a great mood that morning!

At 9:00 the school nurse called and said she had thrown up in the classroom. Judd took her back to the doctor so they could test her for flu and strep. Despite being on an antibiotic for two days, she tested positive for strep! (They did a strep test on Monday and it was negative. Go figure.) Obviously the antibiotic she was taking wasn't working so they switched to a different one.

After that, we were in the clear! What a week! Kudos to my sweet husband for taking care of our sick girl this week - Momma's out of days to take off!

The Haircut

Campbell's hair grows so fast he could use a haircut every three weeks.  We usually only get it cut every 4-6 weeks though.  To time it just right before his birthday party on Saturday, we took him to get his haircut on Monday.  On Tuesday, Campbell took the scissors to his head!  He cut it CLOSE to the scalp.  Judd and I tried to "fix" it with the clippers.  We would have had to shave it to make it even, so he still had a big chunk cut out of the front of his head.  Ugh!  We kept saying that one day all of this would be funny, but not today!  We ended up ordering a Baylor cap (with next day shipping!) that night on Amazon so he would look decent in his birthday pictures.

This was taken the day after the incident...

Bailey's Baptism

Bailey asked Jesus into her heart back in March.  We decided to wait to do her baptism until the weekend of Campbell's birthday, because all of our family would be in town.  She was baptized on Sunday, May 13 (Mother's Day!)  She had been looking forward to this day for weeks!  She was so excited to have her Daddy baptize her!

Campbell's Birthday Party

We celebrated Campbell's fourth birthday at Pump It Up with family and friends on Saturday, May 12.  It was no surprise that he wanted a football party.  It was also no surprise that we took the opportunity to decorate with green and gold!

Four

Happy 4th Birthday Campbell!

I cannot believe that Campbell is four!  How is it possible that our baby is a preschooler?  He is the sweetest thing!

Official stats:

Height: 40.5" (90%)

Weight: 39 lbs (50%)

Here are a few things we want to remember about Campbell at four years old:
  • This year he was obsessed with football.  He loves the Baylor Bears and RG3!  He has two football uniforms and wears them often.  He has an imaginary football coach that tells him what to do!   Campbell has declared our living room "the field" and frequently holds practice there.
  • Recently, he has been all about the Avengers.  Judd and Nick took him to see the movie the weekend it came out - he had been looking forward to it for weeks!  For his birthday, he raked in a TON of Avengers stuff!
  • Campbell is our inquisitive one.  He always asks questions! I love that about him.  (Even though it can be exhausting!)
  • This little boy still has trouble with bed time.  We put him to bed between 8:00 - 9:00 every night, but he WILL NOT go to sleep!  He has told us that he just can't sleep.  I honestly think that his brain is so busy that he can't relax.  He likes to lay on the floor, especially in the doorway of his or Bailey's room.
  • He has SO MUCH ENERGY!  He's all boy!  Judd will often take Campbell with him while he works out.  Judd walks/runs in our neighborhood and Campbell rides his bike or scooter.  He even runs with Judd sometimes.  He loves it!  (And this helps him sleep better!)
  • Campbell is a cuddle bug.  He likes to be held.  He likes to sit on our laps.  I hope he never outgrows that!
  • While he used to call Bailey "Bay-Bay," he now calls her "stister" or just plain Bailey.  We've tried to teach him to say "sis-ter" but he can't/won't say it.
  • He still always asks where we're going tomorrow.  School or church?  This boy likes routine.
  • He still dislikes buttons.  We usually make him wear a polo shirt to church, but not without a few tears!
  • Campbell will eat most anything.  He even liked tomatoes (none of the rest of us do) until just recently.  He had eaten the little grape tomatoes every day for a week, then finally said he didn't like them because they had seeds.
  • He loves his teacher, Ms. Vee.  We were a bit apprehensive about her in the beginning, but she has been wonderful for Campbell!
  • The kids in Campbell's class are all buddies.  This spring, they all went to each other's birthday parties.  They're so cute together!
  • Cam's little ears must be sensitive!  He always puts his hands over his ears when he hears loud noises, including the toilet flushing.  He always says that our pastor, Brother Kevin, screams on Sundays.  He also covers his ears during praise and worship time during the service.
  • Campbell is the sweetest boy and has great manners!  He always says please, thank you, yes ma'am, yes sir, no ma'am, and no sir.  If he catches himself not using his manners, he corrects himself.
  • He wears size 4T shorts, 5 shirts, and 11 shoes.

Cinco de Mayo

Bailey and I went to a Mother-Daughter Fiesta at church on Cinco de Mayo.  We had a great time eating some yummy Mexican food, hearing a good word from the Lord, and breaking a piñata!  It doesn't get much better than that!
