I am so lucky

With only a little over two weeks left before the wedding, I have been thinking a lot lately about how lucky I am to have found the man that I want to share a name with and spend the rest of eternity as husband and wife. He really is my best friend. My confidant. He brings out qualities in me that I didn't even know I possessed. I have developed so much as a person with him and I'm learning so much about the type of person that I desperately want to become. Like every couple, we have great days and not so great days. We love, laugh, smile, annoy, and frustrate each other. We are perfect for each other in every possible way. Again... I am so lucky.

I remember not too long ago how I felt about my lack of dating history. Actually, it was more of a lack of history with men at all. I was terrified that I would never meet a guy who actually liked me back. I thought I was going to end up alone, because how could anyone in their right mind want to spend time with me? Who would actually fall in love... or even like me? Well I found him. His name is Neal Holt. And I love him... and for some crazy reason, he loves me too. I am so lucky.

SPRING!!!

It is finally Spring!!!
I was expecting weather like this...
Image
Instead I got weather like this...
Image

Image
***notice the build up of snow right in front of my door. Awesome.
I did finally have the chance to go sledding with my FHE group though...
Image
... until I fell off my sled, head butted the snow, and gave myself a bloody nose. Again, awesome.
Hopefully the weather decides to make up its mind on which season it is supporting.

Valentine's Day

For Valentine's Day, Neal and I went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. I had the roasted chicken with a loaded baked potato and salad, and Neal had a steak with a loaded sweet potato and salad. After dinner we drove back into Rexburg and Neal surprised me with movie tickets to go see The Vow!

We had a really great time! I can't wait to see what Valentine's Day brings next year!

A Month Into It

I've been living in Rexburg, Idaho for a little over a month now, and here are a couple of observations that I have made....

There are two (and a half) types of people who attend BYU-I: Married students, Engaged students (who are within a month or two of being married anyway, so I just roll them into the Married students category) and Hopeful/Hopeless.

Dating is a competition here. Seriously. If you have a ring on your finger you are glanced over and then quickly overlooked. "Friendship" is not really possible here for the opposite sexes, because Heaven forbid the girl or boy of your dreams is snatched away right under your nose!

I am so happy that I don't have to play this game! I am perfectly happy to be "ignored" by the opposite sex as soon as they see my engagement ring.... or Neal walking towards them as they ask if the seat next to me is taken. Why yes, yes it is.

Another thing that I have noticed. Curfew. It is not a fun thing. And it's a good thing that I am not the only person in my apartment complex who feels this way! Midnight, 12:05am, 12:15am... it's all the same, right? Yeah. Whoops. I mean... of course everyone is in their apartments by midnight!! That's the rule, isn't it?!

Costa Vida is a million times better than Cafe Rio. I've tasted both and have been fully converted to Costa Vida. It is also the spot to be. Costa Vida followed by a night at Fat Cats (don't ask) is like the ultimate date night activity here in Rexburg. (Well, if I'm being honest, it's one of the only date night activities here is Rexburg)

Fat Cats. Fat Cats is a movie theater (don't get too excited, there are only like 3 movies and they are all PG-13 or below) a bowling alley, a laser tag course, and an arcade, all in one. Like I said. This is the place for date night. (Neal and I have not had a chance to go to Fat Cats yet, so I cannot comment on it's awesomeness or lameness yet)

Date Night. The fact that BYU-I recognizes and encourages a Friday night "Date night" is just... well, I guess a BYU-I thing. BYU-I has a weekly agenda for students, but there are a few activities that happen every week. Tuesday afternoon devotional and Friday night date night.

Great Scott's is the best place in town for a 44oz soda. They are by far the cheapest (by like a dollar) and they have the most flavor options. Red cream soda mixed with diet dr. pepper equals an explosion of goodness, let me tell ya. Great Scott's is so popular that their punch cards (the buy ten and get the eleventh free cards) are distributed and gone the morning that they are shipped in. In less you know someone who knows someone, you aren't getting a punch card. It's not gonna happen.

While making these observations, Neal and I have been having a lot of fun! It is so nice to see each other everyday, instead of relying on a daily phone call and occasional skype date.

We finally signed a contract and paid a security deposit for married housing! We are so excited! We drive by our apartment every couple of days to say hi and check out our neighbors (yeah, we're lame). We are going to be living at University Courtyard. Even though it only has one bedroom and is just about 500 sq ft, we are very happy and excited to move in! The complex is literally right across the street from campus (not even a block away), the apartments are super cute and clean, they are less expensive than most of the other options we looked at and they include utilities, we get two parking spots, and we can stay during our off-track (most apartment complexes only have room for "on-track" students, so once your track is done for the year, you have to find different living arrangements).

Club 33

My mom, Randi, Richelle, and Carol came to California a few weeks ago for a  girls' weekend at Disneyland. My mom was able to get us a reservation at Club 33 for lunch one of the afternoons that they were here. We had such a great time! It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am so glad that I was able to enjoy it with some of my favorite ladies!

All of the food was really yummy...

But I think that we all liked the dessert buffet the most!

After we had lunch we were able to do a few more things around Disneyland before I had to go to work.

We visited Snow White's Wishing Well...

And took a picture in front of the giant Christmas tree on Main Street.

Preparing for Rexburg.

As of today, December 26th, 2011, I have one more week until my big move to Rexburg, Idaho.

If there is anyone out there that is clueless about the weather situation in Rexburg, allow me to fill you in...

According to, the weather channel, today in Rexburg, ID, the current temperature is 27 degrees with wind speeds around 10mph.

Rexburg = FREEZING.

Some people may be asking themselves, "How is a girl from Arizona (where the winter temperature is usually between 55 degrees and 65 degrees) going to survive in a place with such extreme weather conditions?!"

Believe me, I've been asking myself the same question a few times a day for the last couple of months.

The only answer that I have been able to come up with is...

Yeah, still got nothin'.

Luckily, I have many awesome people in my life that love me, and they have made sure that I am well equipped with snow clothes and other warm accessories so that I can survive the next few months (aka years) of my life.

For the next week I will be organizing my stuff, packing it all into boxes, and saying goodbye to Disneyland.

The past five months have been some of the greatest and hardest of my life. Saying goodbye to it all is going to be very bittersweet.

Disneyland with the Family

About two weeks ago my parents, along with some of my dad's side of the family, came to visit me in California.

Image

(Everyone from left to right: Robyn, Ryan, Me, Bill, Billy, Jennifer, Nick, Doug, and Kristi behind the camera) sidenote: Billy is sucking on a lemon, he is weird.

Image

On Saturday afternoon and into evening it rained. Luckily my mom and dad were prepared and brought ponchos!

Image

Nick and Ryan (Doug and Kristi's boys). They are so funny. They made everyone laugh the whole entire trip. I wish that our families lived closer so that we could see each other more often.

Image

Doug and Kristi sure had fun cruisin' in the Autopia cars!

Image

Jennifer and I waited in line with Nick and Ryan to go on Gadget's Go Coaster in ToonTown. I think the coolness factor of that ride has officially worn off for me.

Image

Randi introduced me to the Mint Julep back in January 2011. My life has been changed completely! I don't think a trip to Disneyland can ever be complete if I don't get my hands on this minty lemony goodness!

Image

My dad and I also enjoyed the Autopia cars...

Image

and my mom and I enjoyed a churro!

Image

This little cutie, Ryan, is going to be the ring bearer at my wedding in April.
We wanted to get another picture of us in the Bride and Groom Mickey ear hats, like we did at Disney World in 2009, but goofy 3D glasses will have to do!
