Sketchbook Sunday - 11

Hello everyone!

I know, it has been a while since the last post here and all my plans for blogging regularly this year haven't really taken off ...but anyway, here's a late start. A set of sketches from my travels which were partly responsible for this blog going dormant for so long.

I love trains and locomotives, they endlessly fascinate the 6 year old in me. What is also interesting is the continuous stream of activity and unexpected wildlife at railway stations in India. Especially if the stations are small, remotely located and have old buildings with tiled roofs.

I had to switch trains at once such junction and waited for many hours with my sketchbook. The crowd was sparse and there were many crows, pigeons and sparrows trying to scavenge bits of food from the litter around the tracks and platform trashcans.

Although crows are generally considered curious and intelligent birds...I got to watch one specimen here that tried to outdo an idling locomotive in some sort of a bizarre shouting match and almost won. It was a hilarious chain of events as you can see below.

Airmail - during its early days!

Away for a while...will surely miss catching up with all the wonderful new posts of my blog-pals and visitors... Actually, blogging is quite like shouting into the cyber wilderness and the occasional echo one gets in the form of comments and mails is reassuring and also amusing that there's somebody else doing the same :)

Sketchbook Sunday - 10

Been a while since my last post here, Have finally moved into a new place and am still in the acclimatising phase - becoming familiar with the new sights, sounds and smells. The yardstick for measuring a successful migration, according to me, is being able to get a sound sleep in the new surroundings...which has eluded me so far because of some short trips I've had to undertake.

Here are some sketches from these trips...In India, train travel is always enjoyable...you can actually see and experience how the changes in landscape brings about changes in climate and culture across this vast country...And the fact that you don't really belong to any one place, yet all of it is your home - makes it a nice metaphor for journey-of-life in general.

I chanced upon a bright red VW Beetle and a military green Jeep! Talk of automotive classics. Drawing them was such a fun experience - momentarily, I was transported to the battlefronts of WWII :)

The 1967 Ford Mustang is arguably one the most famous American cars ever built...apart from its movie-star looks, power-packed performance and an amazing engine sound, it has also appeared in some memorable Hollywood car chase sequences - Bullit and Gone in Sixty Seconds...it's one star that can surely set pulses racing!
