Ji Hin learns to sing~~~

Ji Hin is slow in speech development. He can speak in many single words but yet to speak in full sentences. However, he learnt to sing since we came to the States. Until now, he could sing quite number of songs like “ABC song”, “Numbers song”, “The wheels on the bus”, “Itcy Bitcy Spider”, “Ring a round the rosie”, “The more we sing together” and few songs that he learnt from school like “calendar song”, “A-Z American Sign Language (ASL) song”, “Days of the week song” and etc…

His pronouncation is a bit off while singing of course but the tone is still there. Sometimes he loves to “sing” the songs in tone only like “em em em~~~” without the words while playing his toys too. Haha!

Below is the way Ji Hin singing Barney’s famous song “I love you”. He watches Barney before but he’s not a super fan. Most of the time I sang this song to him. One day I wrote down the song lyric on the whiteboard and he loves it. He loves to sing in front of the board with his finger pointing to the lyric.

2010 Thanksgiving

Ji Hin’s class held a Thanksgiving party on Wednesday, last day before his 4 days long weekend holiday. It’s on lunch time and just me attended to the party because daddy was working. Every parent would prepare some food on that day. I just bought a fresh dinner roll from Raley.

Image

This silly turkey hat was made by Ji Hin before the party 🙂 Anyway, he refused to wear that hat.

A “card” laminated and sticked on Ji Hin’s table.

Ji Hin and I had lunch together. He just ate dinner roll (finished all!), turkey, mashed potato (love it!), turkey cupcake and a box of apple juice.

Image

How cute the turkey cup cake. As you can see, the rest raw salads and orange was untouched.

Besides that, on Thanksgiving day, we are invited by friend to their house for Thanksgiving dinner. This was my 1st time to try turkey the big bird. My friend bought a 22lbs turkey and roasted it for about 5 hours! It was tasted so good and we even finished the left over 2 days later which I brought home that night.

Image

We did potluck stlye. I cooked my Hakka yong tau fu and made a peach mille crepe cake. These foods were so yummy and I gained 1kg after the dinner 😛

Image

This bird looks great? It’s soooooo good and even better than the turkey made by angmoh !

Image

Just to show off my whole pot of Hakka yong tau fu (inside the black pot). They loved my yong tau fu and mille crepe cake (left of yong tau fu). Both were “sapu” end of the night and I was so happy people loved it! 😀

Day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday, crazy shopping day. I woke up at 5am and went shopping alone while Ji Hin and daddy was sleepping! Hahah! This tent was one of my shopping items for Ji Hin. He loves it so much and crawls inside the tunnel over and over again. This tent was too big in the living hall and already moved to his room. It will be more fun if there are more kids to play with.

3rd photobook

Hurray, my 3rd photobook has arrived! (1st and 2nd photobook was ordered one or two years before) How much for this photobook? It’s just $0.99 plus shipping cost. Too lazy to design page to page so I just chose one of the templete. Not only photobook is cheap in the States, photo printing is cheap too. I also printed 100 4R photos and can you believe that there are FREE with free shipping!!! Wondering how they earn money by giving free stuff?

Halloween party

Trick or treat? Ji Hin’s preschool had an annual Fall Festival/Halloween party on last Wednesday. This was our 1st time to attend such a great party in our life. Of course we won’t miss a chance to participate this event and that would be definately a wonderful memory for us too.

I bought a vampire costume for Ji Hin initially. It came with a colar which facing up and it touched his face and he disliked that colar. No choice I had to return it (best thing in the States) and exchanged another costume – superman! Ji Hin was such a cute cutie pie with the costume. Haha!

Image
Ji Hin doesn’t eat lollipop but he loves to pull out the lollipop and keep counting how many lollipops 😛

Image
We bought 2 meal tickets and was having the snacks. Oh ya, that was a theme for that night called "Alphabet Letter". That’s why we could see alphabet letters all around the school.

Image
Ji Hin kept walking at this corridor and shouting ABC…

Image
Each rooms had different activity for kids. And this is art room.

Image
This was in another classroom. Ji Hin loved to play this ABC puzzle.

Superboy was busy…

Ji Hin’s school pumpkin patch field trip

Ji Hin’s class had pumpkin patch field trip last Thursday. The field was just an empty corner at the school compound. Teachers decorated that place with hazes, pumpkins, scarecrows and spiders. I didn’t participate that field trip because worried that Ji Hin would stick on me if see me in the school.

Teachers took the pictures and shared in Walmart’s online photo. After the day, the school principal and teachers told me Ji Hin’s having a lots of fun in the pumpkin patch field!

My 1st Mille Crepe Cake was out!

My 1st time tried on Mille Crepe was during Ji Hin’s 3 years old birthday. That time I ordered a vanila flavor mille crepe topped with peaches from a website (http://www.humblebeginnings.com.my/millecrepe.html). It’s regular size (0.9kg) costs me RM72. It’s a bit pricey but not choice this kind of mille crepe cake is not common in cake shop. Up to today I still couldn’t find any cake shops are selling it in Msia but this cake is quite popular in other places in Asia like Taiwan and Singapore. I believe by making this cake need so much labor works. Watched a Taiwanese program which introducing this cake before and there are no machine involvements at all! That’s why people says Mille Crepe cake is "LV" standard in cake family! Glamour and luxury!

At the beginning I thought this cake is difficult to make but after trying it’s not that difficult in my mind. It just very time consuming in the process and we don’t need the oven for this. The ingredients cost is much cheaper than making a cheesecake. In terms of flavor, I prefer mille crepe because it tastes not that cheesy as cheesecake. I never bake cheesecake because it’s too cheesy for me. We will only order 1 slice of cheesecake from Starbucks or Coffee Bean once in a while.

Finally I had a chance/time to challenge making mille crepe cake in the States. I only have time doing baking  in the morning while Ji Hin’s sent to preschool. However the process doing this cake is quite long so I separated 2 mornings to settle. 1st morning I used about 30 minutes to make the flour batter and sifted, keep it in fridge overnight. Then next morning bring it out, cook it like cooking pancake but with super thin layer one by one until finish. Then it’s time to make the cream filling with peach flavor. After all are done, without wait I began building the cake!

It’s pretty easy the crepes were flat which made spreading the cream filling simple. It’s still up to everyone how thick of cream filling is going to be. Some likes it thick with strong creamy taste but some likes it thin. For me, I prefer to make it thin.

I refrigerated it again. Finally on that day in the afternoon, I just couldn’t wait and took it out and gave it a slice! It was easy to slice and I had my 1st bite on my 1st homemade mille crepe cale. It was incredible! Hubby tasted it after work and everyone loved it and then I knew what dessert I’m going to make for this Thanksgiving or Christmas Day!

My 1st peach mille cake was small, just about 3 1/2 inches diameter because I followed a half ingredients recipe, thinking just get it a try for 1st time. I felt so regret after that because it was so unbelievable yummy! Haha! Next time I will make it bigger and may be try on other flavor likes mango or strawberries. Actually the efforts on making small or big cake is the same.

We had a great time @ Apple Hill

As I said October’s an eventful month. We went to Apple Hill on Saturday and had a great time there. Apple Hill is just about 20 miles away from Folsom. It’s a countryside with many farm growers like apple trees, pumpkin patches, chrismas trees, pears, berries, winery orchards and etc. We only had chance to spend Fall time in Apple Hill so far and hope next year there’s a chance to visit during Spring time…heard that the scenery is wonderful during the flower blooming.

Let’s rewind back again 3 years ago we’re in Apple Hill. Just like to compare "before and after" after visiting the same place.

Image

This was taken when Ji Hin’s about 4+ months old @ High Hill Ranch at Apple Hill. We back to this ranch again because there has a very great view, big pond and many art stalls were surrounding. I told my hubby I still remember we took a "superman style" photo on Ji Hin 3 years ago. Haha!

This time, we couldn’t get the same photo again. But we managed to take a very cool Ji Hin! Hahah!

Image

Love the text in his front tee – He’s always HANDSOME in our heart 😀 He has grown up so fast!

Image
This is the pond I’ve mentioned…it’s a fish pond and people can do fishing with some charges.

Image
This is the other side where I took the pond photo. We also took our lunch on one of these benches.

Image
So many variety of apples are selling there

Image
If you’re lazy to pick apples from the trees like us can buy the ready picked apples. Same prices if you pick apple fresh from trees. We bought cidar back home(apple juice without pasturized) which is soooooo fresh!

Image
I even cook fried rice in early morning and brought it here as our lunch…but Ji Hin just eating his cheeros…sigh! If there was an option, he would pick his cheeros! Haha! My fault should not show him the cheerios during lunch time.

Rows of apple trees. We just parked our car in between the apple trees.

Image
I didn’t pick it. There’re fall on the floor.

Still green, not ready to pick from the trees

These are red apples

Photo above is not related to apple hill. We went to RedHawk casino on our way back. Hubby got a free $100 casino gift card from company. (Just funny that company encouraging employees to gamble??!) We don’t gamble and I brought Ji Hin to kids Quest and hubby went to cash out the gift card from casino. (Yay, we had extra $100 to spend! Hehe) Ji Hin was interested on this machine so much because of numbers. I was stopped to take photo by an employee but it’s weird because I didn’t see any "camera is prohibited" signboard.

Giant Pumpkins Festival @ Elk Grove

We’re back to this festival again after 3 years! We had been there before when Ji Hin was about 4 months old. October is here and nothing to say it’s Fall like going to a pumpkin patch, apples picking, Halloween and more to come. Giant Pumpkin Festival was our 1st activity in Oct. I’m sure we’ll be having more fun in this eventful month!

We went to this event on Sunday morning and took us about 30 minutes drive from Folsom. It’s held at Elk Grove Regional Park, a very beautiful public garden with a big pond. The park was crowded with people even though it was 2nd day of the event. I guessed most of the people interested on one of the best show at noon 😀

These 2 photos above were taken when Ji Hin was only 4 months old @ Elk Grove Giant Pumpkin Festival 3 years ago.

There’re scarecrows contest too.

Image
Nowadays he’s big enough and dragged me here and there…sigh!

Image

Image
We played a trick to make him sitting down so we could snap some photos on him. What’s the trick? If see closer, his right hand is holding a plastic container with cereals.

Image
However, after a second, he pushed the pumpkin in front of him away and that pumpkin fall down on the floor. Really kek sei ngor!!!

Image
At the end, we couldn’t get a very "nice" picture because his unco-operation. But I still loved this picture…Ji Hin’s very carefully carrying his cereals like "all those are mine, be careful…." Hahah!

Image
This was the show we’re waiting for — pumpkin regata.

Image
Giant pumpkins. The biggest pumpkin is weight more than 1000 pounds!

The end…sharing on a very cute pumpkin decorations 😀
