It's been too long... but I am back

I have a new job. I work at Domo. It is awesome. We have recently been invited and challenged to be more social. Here are my thoughts on the #domosocial experience. When I first heard the idea of the #domosocial experiment, I immediately thought, good thing I joined Twitter, otherwise I may be a lot more behind the times in this meeting. I was thinking to myself, I am on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, I have a blog, I use several online photo sharing sites and I have at least started the process to be ‘invited’ to Pinterest, I should be okay with this whole #domosocial thing. As our CEO, Josh James, continued to pull up slides with lists and lists of other sites, businesses and apps, I quickly realized I am kidding myself. I am a baby when it comes to being connected socially. As many around me talked about and joked about being a mayor over an area I felt old school. A mayor?! What do you mean, a mayor of the office, or of the restaurant? I looked at my co-worker next to me and was grateful he was not so sure either. As the conversation went on I realized that there was so much more for me to experience and learn in respect to social media. I am happy to report that I am much better versed in many topics thanks to this experiment. I used to think Twitter was a place where celebrities would let us all know where they were eating or what movie they just saw (who cares), but I quickly realized that Twitter contains a lot of great information and conversation around technology, business, best practices, etc. After joining the Domo team and joining Twitter, I quickly realized I was a lot more informed and ‘in the know’ with all things even if I just skimmed over my twitter feed. Not only do I feel like I am keeping up with the news of the day and the latest opinions, trends and desires of many of my possible customers, I have realized that I appreciate a well thought out app, website or business model. As I have been diving into so many new apps and social outlets, I have realized that many are well thought out and easy to use, while many more are clunking, not intuitive and quite frankly too frustrating to use. From my own experience with this experiment, I believe I can speak to and understand the needs of a customer, such as myself, when it comes to a user experience and what is expected and needed for me to like a system and want to continue to use it. This kind of knowledge is key in my type of role. I want to be sure all of our Domo customers love their experience and want to tell everyone about it.

May - Baseball Fun with Nick and Bryson

I was lucky enough to be able to go to one of my cousin's baseball games. David coaches two of his boys. It was so fun to be at the fields and watch all the fun that is little league baseball.

Easter Weekend 2011 - Egg Hunt

Image
Melinda and I were super excited to have most of the nieces and nephews at our place so we could do all the fun egg hunt fun. We devided the little ones and big ones because our backyard is not huge and the little kids need a fighting chance. :)
Image
Bradley, Hallie and Bryn needed a little helping finding all of the eggs, but I think they had a great time.
Image
Trying to get all 3 to stop and look at the camera was quite the task. Here is the best we could do.
Image
The big kids had some of their eggs in the harder places to find. They loved the little extra challenge.

Jared had a little help from Aunt Rachel to reach one of the eggs on the window ledge.

Easter Weekend 2011

Image
Everyone came up to Utah for my Grandma's funeral, so we were able to do some Easter fun together. Here we are dying eggs.
Image
The kids were having a fun time playing together and making all sorts of designs on the eggs.

Smiles for the camera. :)

It took Bradley a little bit of time, but he got the hang of it. :)

It's always fun to do things with the cousins.

Bradley gets so distracted when eats. Here is a shot of Leanne and Garrett trying to get him to eat. Too funny.

We had a fun time hosting the Easter Egg hunt in our back yard. We divided up the kids so the little ones had a chance.

I was able to meet Todd and Chelsea's newest additions. Here is a cute family picture on Easter.

Here are cute little Wyatt and Ethan.

Edith Woolley Jex Clayton

I am WAAAYYY behind on all sorts of things with my blog. It may not be in order, but I will start to try to cover some of the things that have happen in the last couple months...
Image
April was a very hard month. My dear, sweet Grandma had a bad fall and broke her hip. She needed surgery, but being 91, surgery is hard. I knew she had had a good life, but still thinking about losing her was so hard for me. I rushed up to the hospital to be with her and my Aunt and Uncle who live with her. As always she was sucha trooper. She was in sooo much pain but was still kind and thankful for those who were there to see her. I was so happy to be there for her to wipe her mouth as she was struggling, hold her hand, brush her forehead, kiss her and tell her how wonderful she was. I can say that from that time in the hospital until she passed I was comforted by the Spirit. I wam so thankful for the gospel and the knowledge I have that this life is not the end. We will live again and see each other again. I know that she is happier where she is and she is with her wonderful eternal companion and friend again. I have never met my Grandpa Jex, but I know he is a loving wonderful person and she was very eager to be with him again.
I am grateful for a flexible job that allowed me to be able to take some time off and be with my Grandma while she was in the hospital. I know it was for the best, but having to state to the the hospital staff that she was not to be resuscitated if her body quite on her in surgery was such a hard thing to do. I would not want her to stay here in pain and in a state where she could not move or do anything, but saying that and thinking about what that meant was tough.
Thankfully she made it through surgery. That allowed her children and many of her grandchildren a chance to see her and say their goodbyes. I know she was in pain, but I could see the love in her eyes as people came by or skyped with her.
I am so grateful for a family willing to help out. My mother was able to come and be with her mother and sister for the last several days of my grandma's life. I know that was hard, but special for all of them. My mother and Aunt Marilyn are such amazing examples of service and love. I really grew to love them both even more.
Image
I knew that my grandma would not want a picture of her laying in her hospital bed for her last several days, but I had to take a picture of my holding her hand to remember that special and spiritual time we had with her and the extended family. I know my grandpa was near and waiting to greet her on the other side. My aunt said it best. You have to struggle to get her through birth and you have to struggle to leave this life. I am just happy to know that my grandma's body is no longer slowing her down.
Image
My grandma Edith was such a loving, service oriented, Christ-centered person. She was a person of faith, love, kindness and hard work. I've never met anyone who worked harder and loved serving more than her. She has taught me so much about being able to take care of yourself and others, loving family, developing your talents and so much more. She raised the best mother ever and loved all of her grandchildren. I cannot write enough about how much I love her and how dearly I miss her. I catch myself looking on my phone at fun pictures I took of her over the last several months to a year and it makes me love and miss her more. I am so blessed to have lived near her and had such a close relationship with her. I will never forget all of the laughs, talks and great moments we had.

Funerals are a time of reunion on both sides. Here are all of my Grandma's children.
Image
Here is a fun snap shot of all of my family. It was so great to have all of the family, all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren there. I am sure she loved the gathering of all her family!
