Starting the Snow Season Off Right

It has snowed only a couple of times this semester, and one of those days was today. Stacy and I went to watch the men's volleyball team play Puerto Rico at the Smith Fieldhouse. It was so much fun--even if there were only 15 fans there. Anyway, my friend's on the team, so we went to cheer him on. The Puerto Ricans were fun to watch as well. The Puerto Rican coach was wearing sunglasses (indoors), a fanny pack, and diamond earrings. If we were losing, all Stacy and I had to do to get in a good mood was to watch the Puerto Ricans in their very short shorts. Anyway, so after the game, I go outside and it's snowing really hard, so Stacy asks if I can get the car because I have a hood and she doesn't. Being the studly sister I am, I said, "Okay, wait here--I'll go get the car." I took one step out onto the snow-covered sidewalk and completely biffed it. Completely. Both of my feet slipped out in front of me, and I landed flat on my butt. Stacy laughed and said, "Luckily no one saw that." And as I'm sulking on the ground, a girl walks by and assures me that she didn't see what happened. First fall of the year! I fear I'll be sore tomorrow, but boy was it funny. Then Stacy and I were walking to the car, and Stacy, being the photographer that she is, asked a different girl to take our picture with the snow. The girl took the camera and asked if I wanted to turn around so she could get a picture of my wet tush. No, but thanks for asking--how thoughtful of you! I remember freshman year when I was going to Stacy's apartment, I slipped on some ice on the concrete. We were coming out of her parking garage and up the stairs to her apartment. I was in a hurry and totally ate the concrete. At first it was funny until I realized how much it hurt and started crying. So those are my two falling stories, and I hope I don't fall on campus! Knock on wood.

Tagged

I have been tagged by Kari Hobson

The Rules

A. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning
B. Each player lists 6 facts/habits about themselves.
C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

Here are my facts:

1. We're supposed to study at the library in college, right? I study in our kitchen. It seems to be the only place where I can get things done--and not because of the food! I can sit at the table for eight hours straight until I'm finished studying.
2. I am going to take a dance class, orchestra, marriage prep (because it's this "amazing" professor's last semester this winter), and who knows what else next semester. I want to take another elective--any suggestions? Anyway, winter 2008 will be fun for me!
3. I don't know how to drive a stick shift.
4. When I get really scared or really excited about things, I can't breathe.
5. I need nine hours of sleep. When my head tells me that my body needs rest, you better believe I obey it. If I get seven hours of sleep at night, I naturally take a two-hour nap the next day. Yes, it will be hard for me to be a mother. No, I will not be a mother for about another five years, at least.
6. Sometimes a British accent rolls of my tongue when I speak, even though I don't do it on purpose. Oftentimes it's very embarrassing for me. I never should have started talking like that with Berkeley. It stuck with me.

I choose to be a rebel and not tag anyone with this because a) I don't think anyone will do it and b) I don't think I even have six friends. Way to lower my self-esteem.

Angel's Landing

This past weekend, a group of friends and I went drove down to Cedar City to spend a few days away from Provo. We stayed at a beautiful home built for ten children and two parents and ate all the family's food! Two sisters in my ward are from Cedar City, and their parents graciously opened up their home to us. On Saturday we drove about 45 minutes-1 hour away to Zion's National Park. There we hiked Angel's Landing, and the view was magnificent. It is about a two-mile hike up the mountain and an additional half-mile hike up a rocky slope to the tippy top. During this final ascent you have to hold on to a chain so that you don't slip off! Did I mention I'm the only one sore from this whole ordeal? It's Tuesday! Still sore.

None of us knew he had it; supposedly she tags along every time Dusty goes somewhere neat.

Modge Podge this Hodge Podge

Image
Image
Image
Image
ImageNot very eloquently positioned, but these are my crafts from the last week of summer! Sorry for the dimness; the modge podge + flash produces a glare. KJB for me, K for Katy, A for Ashlee, B for Becki, and B for Berkeley. I'm going to give these to my roommates for their "early" birthday presents. I wish I had the supplies, money, and time to keep doing this up at school! Oh, and a Hobby Lobby around here would help as well; Michael's just doesn't cut it these days, sadly.

Got My Hair Did

The lighting's bad so you can't tell that my hair's really blonde.
Also, taking pictures of myself seems very narcissistic and highly ineffective. Of the first, I assure you that I do it only to show you my hair, and of the second, it is indeed ineffective. For that, I apologize.

Colorado

I just spent an amazing five days in the land of Parker, Colorado. I visited Jordan (or Jordo, as I like to call her now thanks to her friend Kendria) at her very own mountainous home, and I must say that I was very impressed. What you may not know about Jordo, but may so venture as to guess, is that she is a gifted decorator. Her apartment is absolutely stunning, adorned with framed collages, warm-colored walls, inviting couches, beautiful frames and photos, and excellent decorations. I had my fair share of fun as we went to the Denver Zoo (which has many different animals from the Ft. Worth Zoo); the IMAX where we watched "Ghosts of the Abyss: Titanic;" her dental friend's house for Sunday dinner where we played Guitar Hero with the boys and several games of Nerts with the gals; watched movies (Transformers turned out to be surprisingly good! Popcorn = blehh); went to eat at the local restaurants!; and went to eat at the in-laws. Unfortunately I did get sick the night prior to going to Colorado, so my vacation was also accompanied by a trip to Urgent Care. As a matter of fact, Urgent Care of Parker called me a few days ago to ask me how I was doing--it's too bad that (a) I'm in Puerto Rico and (b) they didn't even help me while I was at their clinic! The trip was fabulous, Colorado is absolutely beautiful, Jo and Quin's condo is amazing, and I was overjoyed to see my sister Jordan. Thanks for the wonderful time, Jordy. :)

ImageThere I am with the silly elephant. I'm sure it's perfectly normal, but this little guy kept picking up dust with his trunk and swishing it on himself. It was truly a sight to behold as we watched him to it for quite some time.

ImageSurely not one of my more flattering poses, but this little guy was so dang cute that I just had to mimick him. Look at his little monkey friends in the back just chillin' on the glass. So cute!

ImageHow about we just let it out in the open like adults; I look absolutely disgusting in this picture! I promise I had just eaten an Icee.

ImageI wonder if I would be allergic to this little man because I am allergic to cats. I suppose I'll never know because I wouldn't dare going near that thing.

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico--the land of tropical rainforests, salty ocean and sea, humid atmosphere. I just spent nine days in Puerto Rico with my dad and mom, and it was beautiful. We went to church two Sundays, and they have no AC in the building; it made me really appreciate the air conditioning we have in the states because by the end of church, my skirt had blown up five times and my face was melting off.
We went to the rainforest, the beach, a baptism, a fireside, the movies, the pool, and shopping--but of course. It's very new to me to be the only child with the parents on vacation; I'm so used to being the little one who gets to sleep on the floor of the minivan and never chooses what to do each day, but this, this was the first of what could be many daughter-parent vacations.
I'm going to help Dain and Malinda paint. Pictures to come.

Life These Days

What's life like these days in Provo, you ask? Well you asked the perfect girl. Freshmen are swarming around campus. You can see "fresh high school grad" written in their eyes when you pass by them, no matter how hard they try to blink it out.

It's been a warm 100 degrees lately. I haven't done my research on it yet, but the mountain across from Utah Lake caught on fire two nights ago; the blaze was absolutely amazing. The fire stayed ablaze yesterday as well. I've yet to find out how it started.

I started making a list of all the wedding festivities I've attended this year alone.

Bridal showers

(1) Becca
(2) Allison
(3) Carrie
(4) Andelyn
(5) Patricia
(6) Karissa
(7) Ali

Wedding receptions

(1) Katie
(2) Ali
(3) Shannon
(4) Becca
(5) Andelyn

I'm sure there are more; for some reason I just can't think of them right now. Perhaps it's because there's one almost every weekend!

New music! I've been stuck on two songs for the past few days: Time to Say Goodbye by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli and We Have a Map of the Piano by Mum. If you want either of these songs, I'd be happy to gmail them to you; just let me know. I tried to put them on the blog, but it's too much of a headache doing that.

ImageThis beauty was taken at Ali Snow's wedding reception last weekend. I don't know if you can see it that well, but we're waiting to catch the bouquet and that is definitely my tongue sticking out. Why do I have so many embarrassing faces? It looks like I'm trying to catch a snowflake.

So far I haven't had any luck posting pictures with captions. As you can see from the last two posts, I've done an awful job. Perfection comes only with practice, so here I am to practice.

Image

This is a picture from FHE at Brother Hover's house. We have FHE at a different member of the bishopric's house every first Monday of the month; Brother Hover is from our Stake High Council. Anyway, featured in this picture is Emily, Ashlee, and Katy. We look delighted, don't we?

Image

Sadly, this is right when Ashlee ripped her shorts--smack dab in the crotch.

Image

This is my first time hiking the Y! I really love my ward. (Here there are only a few people from the ward.) Spring term went by really quickly, but I'm kind of relieved that it's over. I ended up getting A's in both of my classes--history of creativity and physical science. The history class really surprised me. Anyway, so those are finished and I'll be back home in Texas by July!

Erin, can I be your nanny for a month? It would really make my summer if I could drive the kiddos around and play with them. :)

I miss you all! Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Hopefully this turned out better than my previous posts.

You're my brown-eyed girl!

Happy birthday to my dear sister Jordan!

Image

It was a bumpy beginning with my puppy-dog pout and all, but we've come to like each other.

Image

Okay, so our hair looks a little different now, and you probably couldn't tell because we look so different, but yay sisters!

Image

We love each other so much, we even consider going on vacations together still!
Image

And we like the same music! Going to concerts together is fun. :) Hooray for Eisley! Dear, did you know that people love each other? Just like they do. Just like we do.

Image

We even ice skate together. Ice skate? You got that right. Like pros.

ImageSo happy birthday to a girl who's one of a kind!
