Both Eric and I had been itching to go camping and just get out of town so we decided to head to the mountains of New Mexico where we wouldn't sweat to death. It was a really nice trip. The kids did much better than I expected spending 5+ hours in the car for 3 days in a row. I got them little surprises to open every hour while we were driving and the transformers were definately the favorite. They were entertained for hours. Here they are playing with them at the rest area.
We spent one night in San Antonio on the riverwalk. Nothing to exciting there but it was the kids first time in a hotel and they were in heaven watching Tom and Jerry on tv and jumping on the beds. Next we headed to Carlsbad, NM. We went to Carlsbad Caverns. The kids were impressed for about 2 mins. About half way through the 1 mile walk Dustin cried to be carried and fell asleep a few minutes before the end. Mitchel was a sport and made it the whole way....although complained that his legs hurt half way through.Next day we headed to Santa Fe, NM. Its an interesting town. I would have liked to walked through the shops but the kids were uninterested in that so we quickly walked through the town square, got some yummy french desserts, and then headed for the hills. We camped I think at 8000 ft and the weather was almost perfect. It was in the in the 70s during the day and probably got down into the high 40s at night. They air was dry for the most part. Except that it was the rainy season there so it rained the second night. Not so much fun rolling out of a wet tent at 27 weeks pregnant to use the restroom several times a night but I survived 2 nights. The kids had fun playing in the tent and exploring with their binoculars.
We went for a walk along a creek and had lots of fun throwing rocks in the creek. Luckily we didn't see any bears or cougars.
It was a nice trip before school started and also nice to be in cooler weather.

At our new neighborhood Santa came around on a firetruck and we watched from a distance and about had a melt down when they blew the horn 5 ft from us.
