I currently work as a staff writer for Live Science, and I have freelanced in the past for Mental Floss, Interesting Facts, Forbes, and Smithsonian Magazine. In my previous career, I was a biological anthropology professor with a research specialty in Roman bioarchaeology.

My educational background includes a PhD in anthropology (UNC Chapel Hill), MA degrees in anthropology (ECU) and classical archaeology (UNC Chapel Hill), and BA degrees in classical archaeology and Latin (UVa). I’ve taught at UNC Chapel Hill, Vanderbilt University, SUNY Cortland, Durham Technical Community College, and the University of West Florida.
