Happy 1st Birthday Kayli!!

ImageKayli is now 12 months old! Wow, I really can't believe it has been one year! As I look back a year ago, I am so blessed to have had such a wonderful experience at the hospital. I am so thankful for Martha and Kevin who were there with me every step of the way. Bringing a new life into this world is such a sacred and amazing thing to think about. We are so truly blessed to have Kayli in our lives, and I can't imagine our life without her.

This past month Kayli did some pretty cool things! She consistenly says "mama" and "papa" refering to us :) She learned how to do "ojitos" (she closes her eyes, like a long blink...we like to say she is saying I love you). She now says "ma" for "mas" when she wants more of somthing to eat. She spontaneously signed "milk" one night to tell me she wanted more more before going to bed! That was sooooo cool and I was so excited! I said, "She communicating!" Kevin taught her how to go down stairs...which she loves to do! And four days after her birthday (Grandma Lala's birthday) she took her first steps by herself!!! We are so excited!

For Kayli's birthday we invited family over for food, cake, and presents. We decorated the kitchen, made Hojaldra and pizza, and I made her cake. Growing up, my parents always made our cakes, so I want to carry one the tradition. I was so proud it turn out so good! I also made a mini cake for Kayli to rip to pieces and eat...she did a pretty good job :)

ImageImageImageThe day after her birthday, she went to the Dr. for her one-year checkup. She now weighs 23 lbs. 1/4 oz and is 30.5 inches long. She also got her shots...5 to be exact :( She cried (of course) right after, but then she was fine....and she didn't get a fever later either! The Dr. said for us to keep her legs moving so they won't get sore, and after we got home we played on the stairs for about 15 minutes :) I think that helped!

Yaba-Daba-Doo Halloween!

Image
Every year, Kevin's family has a big Halloween party which is always lots of fun! I love dressing up for Halloween, so this year, we had to do something for three...the Flintstones Family! Martha helped me cut out the costumes and I sewed them. It was really easy, and I think it turned out really cute! Happy Halloween!

ImageImage
This time last year I was 9 months pregnant, and Kayli was born two days after our family Halloween party!

11 Months...Can it be?

ImageSo, Kayli just turned 11 months old! I can't believe it has almost been a year already! Wow, how time flies. Kayli continues to be very much mobile! We have the entire living room blocked....the couch blocks Chato's room, we have a gate going to the hallway, and another gate blocking the kitchen....so Kayli has free roam of the living room without us running to catch her before she goes somewhere we don't want her.

ImageKevin is a big soccer fan, so after our dance performance in Provo at the Latin American Festival I found this little jersey and I had to get it! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!

ImageThis past month Kayli had her first fall with blood! I felt horrible! She was cruising around my bed night stand and she fell right on the corner hitting her left eyebrow. I went over and just said, "Oh, you're ok," but then I saw the blood and I kinda freaked out! I ran to the bathroom to clean the blood, the cut didn't look too bad but it kept bleeding a little bit. I called my mom and she told me how to tell if the cut is deep enough to where she would need stitches. Thankfully, the cut wasn't bad, really just a scratch, but it was kinda scary! I put some Arnica on it and that seemed to help. I'm hoping it doesn't leave a scar on her left eyebrow :) I'm guessing this is only the first of many falls to come :( Kevin was at work when it happened, so when he got home, he kinda freaked out too...but then he was fine. All the bad things happen on my watch!

ImageThis past month Kayli has pretty much been eating a little of everything we eat! She has had everything from rice with bean broth to lasagna! We are finding that Kayli likes to feed herself rather than us feed her. So, I try to let her eat some kinda of "finger" food first and then I give her cereal mixed with something else at applesauce, yogurt, or carrots. She also LOVES bananas and prefers to put them in her own mouth, usually in big chunks! I have also been making different baby food for Kayli too. I have made carrots with peas and celery and sweet potatoes with apples and cinnamon. She seems to like everything so far! I want to try pumpkin next, since it is pumpkin season :)

ImageFor Conference Weekend, my parents came into town so they got to spend some time with Kayli! They had a blast! Kayli rode on Grandpa's knee and played Peek-A-Boo with grandma! Kayli also learned how to push her "rocking" chair around....too cute!!!

10 Months & Mobile!

ImageKayli has learned how to do a lot of things this month and has become much more mobile!!!!

She learned how to clap her hands, she learned how to sit from lying on her tummy, she started crawling like a pro. and she can even crawl while holding things in her hands. She also learned how to pull herself up to a standing position while holding on to something, she started cruising around all our furniture, and she learned how to sit down from a standing position. She also learned how to wave "bye-bye" and is trying to do "kisses"!!! This month has been so much fun watching Kayli develop all these new skills. Kayli has been doing great with tasting new foods and consistencies. We have got out bed-time routine down and she is still sleeping through the night!

Mom and Dad came up for a quick trip when Dave got set apart as a High Priest. During the sacrament meeting at their church, Kayli grabbed some tortillas and actually ate it! It was so funny! While Mom & Dad were here, Kayli also had her first hair cut, just her bangs! She didn't like us holding her head still, so there are some tears :(

Image
I also went back to work this past month...which I really had a hard time with for the first few weeks. Kevin has been great taking care of Kayli while I'm at work! Grandma Brown had her birthday this past month and we had a little birthday party! When I asked Grandma what she wanted to eat she said, "Mole!" So I asked Kevin's mom and grandma to help me make Mole. It was pretty easy, and it tasted great! I also bought a Tres Leches cake and we had fun with grandma!

9 Months Old!

Image
Nine months old! Wow, that's about how long I had Kayli in my tummy! This past month we did a lot! Kayli learned how to eat "puff" cereal...at first she just stuck it in her mouth and then spit it out. We went to the pool a couple times...Kayli loved the water! She would kick her legs under the water! She also got a tan from being in the sun :) Three more teeth came in...that's her 3rd, 4th, and 5th teeth, all on top.

ImageFor the 24th of July we went back home to NM! It was so fun much fun. Kayli got to play with her little cousin (born just about 3 months after Kayli), we went to the Pioneer Day parade and the Pioneer Day show. It was great to be home! While in NM, Kayli learned how to do "raspberries" with grandpa! haha, so cute. She also had her first bath in the bathtub! It was so easy...for some reason I thought it would be more work for me, but it wasn't. She loved it! Kayli also learned how to do Tio Ty's "funny face" while in NM.

ImageAfter we got back from NM, we went camping with Kevin's family to Flaming Gorge! I was a little worried about camping with Kayli, but everything was fine. We bought her a special inflatable bed, which she didn't use...she just slept with us. On the camping trip, Kayli had her first taste of formula...she had no problem drinking it! Kayli really enjoyed getting to know the family and especially loved "Tio Abuleo" and "Alito".

Image
ImageAfter getting back from the camping trip, Kayli had to 9-month check up with the Doctor. She is 20 lbs. 10 1/2 oz. and is 28.75 inches long. She got some more shots and the biggest thing was that our Dr. said Kayli can have whole milk, cheese, and yogurt! He said usually he recommends that parents wait until the baby is one year old, but Kayli is doing great and unless she has an alergic reaction, she should be fine. We gave Kayli whole milk a few days later and she had no problem with it and no reactions :) She really loves yogurt now too! Out next doctor's appointment isn't until she turns 1 year!!!!!!

Note from the Editor...

Ok, so the "New Carpet" post was supposed to be posted between the "8 months & New Baby Gear" post and the "On the Move" post. I thought it didn't matter what order you WROTE the post...I thought that it just mattered when you PUBLISHED the post. Obviously everything posts according to when you wrote it.

I think I got it now...I just need to stay on top of my blog so I don't fall behind and end up writing four posts all at once :)

New Carpet!

Since Kayli will be crawling soon, we have decided to replace all the carpet in our town home because it is old and yucky!

My dad came up this week to help us do it ourselves!

Here's Grandpa and Kayli at Home Depot while we're buying the carpet

Here's Dad and Kevin ripping out the old stuff

Here's me trying to be tough

and Here's the living room all done!

The whole house looks GREAT, thanks dad for helping us and for all your hard work, we LOVE you!!!

Family Reunion

Over the 4th of July weekend, we had a Brown family reunion.

Image
On the first day we got to go to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple Open House. This was Kayli's second time in the temple in 8 months!

Image
Then we got to play in the pool...Kayli's first time in a pool!

ImageImageImage
Then we ate supper and had a piñata for the kids...Kayli's first piñata!!!

Image
The next day we went to the "This is the Place Monument", had a family BBQ, and a talent show.

Image
The reunion was a blast and it was great seeing everyone! Thanks to all those who planned everything and worked hard to make it a success!!

On the Move!

Image
Within the last week...Kayli can hold herself up on her hands and knees for a few minutes....and she just started scooting around on her tummy!!!!

Kayli has also just started babbling /ma ma ma ma ma/! Whoo!

She has already been babbling /pa pa pa/.

We have also been using the signs for "mom" and "dad" for the past month and a half, as well as the signs for "milk" and "more."

8 months & New Baby Gear!

ImageThis is Kayli's 4th of July dress that her Grandma Martha made for her!

So, Kayli just turned 8 months old! There have been A LOT of changes this past month:

Kayli decided she didn't like "taquito" (be swaddled) to go to bed anymore, which cause some grief with the bedtime routine.

Kayli got two teeth! (The bottom two in front)

Kayli can sit by herself for long periods of time without tipping over!

We had to buy a new carseat for our growing baby:

Image
We bought a walker! (She's not quit ready to walk in it, but she likes to bounce a lot)

AND....

Kayli started making the /g/ sound and started varying her syllables eg: /ga gi/ & /da di/

YEAH!

First Babbling!!!

Near the end of March, Kayli surprised me and started babbling!! I was sitting at the computer and she just started babbling. Very exciting for a mom who is a speech-language pathologist! It is so fun to see your child grow and develop and I'm glad I can document every step of the way!

Babbling is when infants around 4-5 months produce consonant-vowel or vowel-consonant combinations consecutively in a string, ie:ba ba ba ba ba. Babbling allows infants to experiment with sound production. In the video you can see Kayli imitating single sounds as well. :)

Lucky Number Seven!

ImageA lot of fun things have happened this past month:

Kayli found her feet and can't stop playing with them! She grabs them and tries to put her toes in her mouth!

Kayli started "shaking" her head back and forth when she is excited.

And she also started making the "fishy" face (when you suck your checks into your mouth). Sooooooooooo cute!!!!

She is still sleeping well in her crib and she is eating various fruits, veggies, and cereal about once a day.

This past month we also took our first trip to the public library, which is only two blocks away! (Sorry pics are so small, they were taken on my phone)
ImageImageImage
ImageImage
We checked out Go, Dog, Go, Hop on Pop, In the Small Small Pond, Hurry, Hurry, and Strega Nona and the Magic Ring. That last one was more for me because I love Tomie dePaola :)

We look forward to many happy times reading good books! Anybody have a favorite children's book to recommend?

6 months old!!!!

Wow!! Has it really been 6 months?! At Kayli's 6-month check-up she weighed 19 lbs. and was 27 1/2 inches long and is still in the 90th percentile for both. She got more shots and had a fever that night and next day :( I guess we're getting used to it. Her next appointment isn't scheduled until August (she will be 9 months). I guess they don't do an 8-month check-up.

A lot has happened this past month. General Conference, Easter, Tia Laura and Tio Dave's graduation, and Grandma and Grandpa Bond came to visit!

Image
Image
ImageKayli also slept in her crib for the first time this month (since she doesn't fit in the bassinet anymore!) She didn't seem to notice the new crib and slept the whole night. As you can see, I still swaddle her at night, but she is getting too big for all our blankets!

ImageThis month Kayli was invited to attend a birthday party. Our friend's son, Jayden, turned 1-year old and had a small party. Even though Kayli was too small to enjoy the games, food, and piñata...we all had fun!

Image

5 months old!

Image
As you can see...Kayli likes to put everything in her mouth these days! :) She is still sleeping well, however, the bassinet is getting smaller and smaller! We've been experimenting with "soils" and so far have tried cereal, squash, sweet potato, green beans, and banana. We want to do veggies first and work a few fruits in there once and a while. We also started giving her apple juice in a bottle, which she likes as well.

Image
Image
This month Kayli also learned how to take the "chupon" (pacifier) out of her mouth, but she hasn't figured out how to put it back in her mouth, which causes much frustration for her, and a few giggles for us :)

On March 14th Laura, Kayli and I went to the Draper Temple Open House. It was a really cool experience. I carried Kayli in the sling and she was good the whole time. She just kept looking all around. I kept wondering if she knew where she was...and I think she did. Everything was so beautiful and peaceful. I am so greatful for the opportunity to go to the temple and take my daughter with me to show her the importance of temple work. Now she can say that the first time she went into the temple was when she was 4 and a half months old!
