Santa

Image
There have been some Santa talks at our house. I guess K. was informed that Santa isn't real. We talked to her for quite some time about who would bring the presents if Santa didn't and she explained that some girls she knows said it was the parents. The conversation carried on into the restaurant we were going to. Some people overheard our conversation and many of them offered their input which seemed to help. After dinner we had planned a trip to Bass Pro Shop and Santa happened to be there. J being very observant noticed that after he and K had their picture made that "Santa" took off his red hat and put on a baseball cap. He said "see that isn't really Santa because Santa wouldn't have done that." We understand that our kids won't believe in Santa forever but it is a fun part of childhood to believe in Santa. The anticipation is so enjoyable and the excitement abounds when a child thinks of Santa visiting.

Pilgrims and the Mayflower

J and K have both been learning about Thanksgiving at school and we were having a conversation about it tonight. J explained that people had come over on the Mayflower and the people were called pilgrims. B asked J where the people came from and J said, "They came from Mexico to Tulsa."

I think we may need to reteach part of the story.

Show me some love!!

K has really got to learn what NOT to say!

Someone told her she looks like me and she says, "UGHHHH!" I asked what was wrong and she says, "Who wants to look like an old lady?"

K has let me know that I am not allowed to wear a pony tail to her school. She said, "Mom, you look more beautiful with your hair down." I know it looks better but on windy days it sure is easier to wear a pony tail. I did show up at her school with a pony tail and she let me know immediately that she had already told me not to wear a pony tail to her school.

The other night K and I were going to a store together and the radio was on. She said, "Mom, that sounds like you singing." I am thinking okay, maybe I don't sound as bad as I think I do. Then she says, "Why do they play songs that bad on the radio?"

If this is 6 just think what the teenage years hold.

Drawing Day

Image
Image
Our kids love to "do art." They draw many pictures every day and K's teacher actually feels that K is gifted in this area. We enrolled her in drawing classes at her school and so far she is loving it. They have only met once but it was great fun for her. J's teacher told us that he too is gifted in this area so when he is older we will enroll him in classes but for now he will just draw at home.
J's picture is The Joker although he has not seen the movie. K drew the American flag.

J was good 5 days!!

Last night the family was having a discussion and J said, "My teacher said I was good today and that makes 5 days! I was only bad 4 days! 5 is more than 4!!" He was actually very excited about this. We will be delighted with the small accomplishments.

Shut the Bubbles!

J had been playing with bubbles and he told B. that he had to shut the bubbles. B asked why it was so important to shut the bubbles. J said because the bees and bugs might get in the bubbles and then they would float away. When the bubbles finally pop the bees and bugs will be lost because they won't know where they are.

I can just picture the bees and bugs floating in the bubbles!

Is it today?

J has been confused about today, tomorrow and yesterday. We have to giggle when he starts saying is it today or is it tomorrow? I was having a conversation with him the other day and I said, "Today we are going to church." J said, "Is it today?" I responded, "Yes, it is today." He said, "I knew it was today because I saw a calendar and it said today." He continued, "Sunday, Today, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday." Our week just grew by one day!!

How time flies

Image
K is in first grade and she is doing very well. Her first grade teacher is amazing. I help with the class on Wednesdays so I get to know the kids in K's class and I get to watch K. It has been fun!!

Garage Sale

Image
Image
Some friends and I had a garage sale and the kids decided to advertise for us. They each made a sign and held it high while chanting, "Come to our garage sale, cheap prices!!" J. said the chant and under his breath said, "Cheap prices, I don't know about that!" I even had a lady tell me she wasn't going to stop until she saw the kids with their signs held high. J. would even run next to the cars if they didn't stop and he would hold his sign out to the passersby as if they couldn't see it. He would get a little irritated at those people who didn't stop and he would come tell me "some people didn't stop, Mom." We got some good laughs and enjoyed visiting with our friends but we were all so tired by the end of the day.

What a wonderful birthday

Today was a good day. My sweet daughter decided to give me a spa day. She fixed the living room up with an area to lie down (couch cushions pulled off the couch and laid out on chairs.) She got me a blanket and she brushed my hair. She blow dried my hair and filed my finger nails and toe nails. Then we painted each others toe nails. It was so sweet.

I do have to tell on myself though. I was putting the polish up and dropped a bottle of red polish. It broke and polish went everywhere. I have polish on my white baseboards, taupe walls, tile, grout and toilet. I ruined the trash can. It could probably be salvaged but I would rather just buy a new one because it will take too much effort to clean it. I get to repaint my walls and baseboards. I know B. will be happy when he comes back in the country and sees the honey do list I have for him. The wonderful way K. planned this day out made it all worth it though.

Thanks Dad!!

K comes in talking about SBD's and I asked her what she was talking about. She said, "You know, silent but deadly." I said, "K please don't talk like that because I don't want your brother saying those things." Her response was, "Mom, he already knows it because dad is the one that taught us about it."

On a lighter note...J's teacher said things are much better. She definitely thinks he was bored and said he is in a much better class now. WOOOHOOOO!!! I am so glad. I have been really worried about him.

School

J has been asked to switch days at preschool. He was going on Tues and Thurs but his teacher thinks he is bored. I had to laugh when she told me because he may be somewhat bored but I think he is more active than the other little boys in his class and she is thinking this is boredom. He went to get a drink of water and came back with some in his cheeks. He squeezed his cheeks and water shot out of his mouth onto the desk and a little boy who was sitting across from him. The teacher said he is very sweet but she has to get on to him sometimes. I have so many stories to tell on this kid when he is dating.

J's Dream

J had a dream last night that he met one of the Jonas brothers. I asked him which one he met. He said, "The one with wrinkled hair like Mema." I asked him if he meant curly hair and he said yes.

J Again!!

I was out of town on a family emergency for a week and B had to fly so we had friends take care of the kids over night one night. That evening the man took J to Lowe's. He got to looking for J and he was calling his name. Then he hears J yelling, "Stacy, up here!!" Stacy looks up to find J up on the 3rd shelf. The man quickly pulled J down to safety. I hope they are still our friends after this.

2008-2009 School Year

K started school on the 13th of August but J just started and we have been concerned about his first day for a couple of years now. As I have said many times J. has the traits of a class clown. Well, I had to leave town on a family emergency and that put B in charge. The first day of school B goes to pick J up and the teacher says, "I need to talk to you." Not what you want to hear EVER but on the first day? The second day was much better! I hope this school thing continues to grow on him.

Meme

Okay, some of my friends have done this on their blog and it is silly but is also fun to read. Go to www.google.com and type in your name and "needs". Choose your top 5 answers from the first 2 pages. Here is my list.... 1. K. needs to keep the drama going. 2. K. need the sun (yes, I am pretty white!!) 3. K. needs a new attitude (yes, sometimes my attitude does get bad) 4. K. needs to grow up. 5. K. needs to stop speaking Italian (I wish I knew how to speak another language.)

K turned 6 this month. I can't believe she is already 6! We had her birthday party at the bowling alley.

J and his funnies

J. often makes us laugh and lately has been no exception. We were at Home Depot and they have sheds of all sizes in the parking lot. He told me he thought we should buy the big red one that looks like a barn. He said he thought he could make that his room and if I wanted to get up early in the mornings to go to the gym I could just attach the barn to my Tahoe and drive to the gym without waking him. Good idea, right?

J was telling B a story and he said, "The day after the day before yesterday..." It took us a minute to reason through that one!

J was telling me he thought he had a headache then he said, "Well, I feel something in my head... maybe it's just my brain."

The neighbor was walking her dog in the front of our house and the kids were playing in the back yard. The owner's dog got a little ahead of her and she said, "Where are you?" J yells, "We're in the backyard!!"

It has been a very busy summer!

Image

Image
Ok, we have been very busy this summer. It seems as though we have been home very little. After 5 vacations and school starting I think we are home for a while. Our first vacation was to Dumas to see Memaw and Pa then we went to Branson, MO and rode rides at Silver Dollar City, next to a house on the lake in Wimberley, TX. The next trip we took was to Disney and at that point I thought we were done but B. was leaving for a trip and 3 hours before leaving he said he was going empty and that we could go. So I packed for the kids and me and we went to Naples, FL. We got to stay in the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. We had so much fun! The hotel pools were very nice. There was a lazy river, a quiet pool (no kids allowed), a pool for swimming laps and the regular pool. These pictures were taken at our hotel.

Are they bank robbers?

The neighborhood kids were playing outside tonight and one of them is going into 9th grade. Some boys he knows rode by on bicycles and he said hello. J. turned and asked him if they were his friends and he said, "not really, they are bad." J. said, "Do they drink diet drinks?" Our neighbor giggled knowing that J. was confused and meant do they drink alcohol. Next, J. asked, "Well, are they bank robbers then?"

Disney

Image
Image
We are back from Disney and getting ready for a 6th birthday party. The kids loved Disney although they wanted to be carried most places. It was in the high 90's and we were all sweating and tired. Poor B. had to carry a backpack and at times 2 kids. K. is not afraid of any of the rides but J. is another story. He was afraid to ride any ride that dropped straight down. He would see the drop and refuse to get on the ride. There was a roller coaster that was meant for children and he reluctantly got in line. When we got up to the front and it was our time to get on he refused. The girls working let him stand to the side and they told him it wasn't that bad and that she would "push the slow button." He agreed to ride the next time so K and I got to ride again. When we were getting off the roller coaster J looked at me and said, "That wasn't too bad but I am NOT riding it again. Only once!!" The girls gave him stickers and he was happy.
K loved eating dinner with the princesses. Cinderella, her 2 step sisters and the wicked step mother were walking around as people ate. We got pictures of the kids with each of the characters.

K lost tooth #2

Last night I pulled K's second tooth. The tooth fairy came and left her a journal with the tooth fairies picture on it. Inside there was a message from the tooth fairy that read: I heard you say that you wished I had left you a doll the other night when I came to your house. I thought of a better idea. I found this journal and had my picture put on the front cover (there was a picture of a fairy on front). I thought you could write me a note every time you lose a tooth and I will write you a note in the journal when I come to pick up your tooth. I think this idea is much better than a doll. I wanted to tell you that you are very pretty even when you are sleeping. Please take care of your teeth and brush them well at least twice a day. Love, The Tooth Fairy

Vacation to the river

Image
Image
We went to Wimberley, Texas for one of our summer vacations. The river was very low which was nice for us to play in. The kids loved it. They swam in the deeper areas and played in the shallow areas. We were very tired when we returned and we leave tomorrow morning for Disney World.

What are our kids learning?

B doesn't have the typical job by any means. Those of you who know him know that he gets many perks. These perks include playing golf at the most lavish courses, eating at restaurants with the most amazing gourmet cuisine, scuba diving, sight seeing and the list goes on. He comes home and tells the kids about his "work". I think J. has a complete misunderstanding of what work really is. Tonight he said that he wants to have a man's job. I asked him what he thought a man's job was. He said, "Well, you get to play golf and swim." I had to explain that most jobs don't allow time for these extras and that you actually have to work when you have a job.

A Summer of Firsts

Image

K and J are taking swimming lessons and they are doing so well. K went off the diving board for the first time and J is really learning a lot. The teacher used J as an example today.
K lost her first tooth and is about to lose another tooth any day. She was so excited about it. It is wonderful to see the excitement in her eyes. The tooth fairy in our town gives a toy and money and the money doesn't mean too much. The toys are much more exciting. By the way, we thought we were going to learn what the tooth fairy does in the Texas Panhandle but unfortunately we didn't get to find out. Lucky tooth fairy. We leave for vacation on Wednesday so I will need to find out what the tooth fairy does when we are on the road and there are no stores nearby. This tooth fairy must do lots of thinking.

End of kindergarten

K had an awards assembly today and was awarded an achievement award in reading. She read 25 books that were approved as part of the reading course for schools in Oklahoma. We are so proud of her accomplishments this year. She is growing up so fast it seems. This year she has accomplished so much and we have seen her change drastically. She started kindergarten being able to read very beginner books and now she reads very well. She has learned her address and if anyone knows the addresses in our town that is no small feat. She learned our phone number and then we changed our phone number and she learned the new phone number. She has matured and is so sweet. She thinks of her brother every day at school. They have snacks at school and she comes home with a portion of her school snack for her brother (even if it is a single pretzel or a piece of cereal!) Every single week of this school year she has gotten to go to the treasure box for having good character. K's handwriting is beautiful and she draws as well as children much older. We are very proud of our precious girl. She is so beautiful inside and out and I love to watch her eyes light up when she learns and when she is interested in something. As Mema said, "K is enthusiastic and gets so excited" about things. I wish I could bottle all the energy and love K has.

Monkey and Cool Dog

We were discussing nicknames and K said she likes it when we call her monkey. J had to get in on the action and said his nickname is dog. I asked why dog? He said that since K is monkey he is dog. So B. started saying, "Hey, Dawg!" J. said, "No, I am cool dog." I asked why the name cool dog. He said, "Because I am cool and I want a dog."

You are welcome Mema

J was thrilled to have everyone at his party and he tried to use his manners when people were leaving but it came out all wrong. He told Mema "you are welcome that I invited you to my party." Of course Mema replied, "Oh, where are my manners, thank you for inviting me to your party."

We had J's birthday party and K's recital

This weekend was very busy. We had some of the family come into town for J's 4th birthday party, 2 soccer games and K's dance recital. Friday we took K to a town about 30 minutes away for her rehearsal and that took 2 hours then we drove back home and J was sick. He was throwing up but I already had the cake and he was looking forward to opening gifts so we went ahead and let him have his party Friday night. The next morning we woke up early for a 9 o'clock soccer game in which J made a goal. Then we grabbed a snack and had to be at another field at 11 for K's soccer game. I asked the coach if she could not play the last quarter so we could run home and get her ready for her recital which we had 45 minutes to get ready for. We got her ready and went to Claremore. She danced so well! We were really proud of her. Then on the drive home we stopped by some land we have a contract on. We got home and just enjoyed each other after that! I appreciate all of the family coming and staying so busy. We missed you Dad, Bisus, Sis, Uncle Shane and cousins.
I hope K understands that although she hasn't made a goal yet she still plays soccer very well. She really wanted to make a goal this year but it didn't work out. She is always on defense and just hasn't had the opportunity to score. Then there is J who gets so side tracked in his games that he will play with the net or sit there talking to another kid while the game is going on and he has scored 2 goals this year. J has requested that he not play soccer again. This sits great with me as it is painful to watch him goof off.

J had his 4 year old check up

Our pediatrician asks questions to see what the kids know and she asked J what curtains were. He said, "Things." She asked,"What kind of things." His response was, "I don't know." She says, "Where do they go?" "In the house," J responds. Dr Boyd, "Where in the house?" J said, "In my parents room." "Where in your parents room?" J said, "On both sides." "Both sides of what?" "Both sides of my parents room." "What are curtains for?" "So people can't see in." "See in what?" J looks at her like duh and says, "In the window." By now I am laughing out loud.

Another question: What is a fence?
J: A gate
Dr.: But what is it for?
J: I don't know
Dr: What is it for?
J: So you won't run in the street

The red bee with a rash

Today I was working in the yard and J came outside with me. He said, "Watch out! I see a red bug!" Then he added, "I think it is a red bee." "It must be red because it has a rash on it's face!"

Mother's Day

K came home from school with the cutest Cookbook for my Mother's Day gift. The recipe that K submitted goes as follows: My favorite thing that mom cooks is brownies. She buys a box of like healthy brownies at Wal-mart, the only place she goes usually. To make it, first she pours the stuff that's in the box into a big bucket or big bowl. Then she pours some milk in and stirs it. After that she puts it in the microwave and cooks it on high for 70 seconds. It tastes kinda chocolatey, like chocolate mixed up with bread. My mom is special to me because she cooks us food!

I thought this was funny because I have only made brownies from a box 2 times and I cook them in the oven. Also, I shop at Reasor's most of the time and go to Wal-mart only when I have to. K is usually at school when I do the grocery shopping though.

All the recipes were so cute! You can tell which kids cook with their parents and which kids have no interest.

J is 4!!

My baby is 4! I just can't believe it. He was given the choice whether to open his presents on his birthday or to wait for his party on the 17th. He said he wanted to wait but his sister didn't want him to wait so she worked on him and finally convinced him to open them. He was most excited by Iron Man (irun man as J says it.) Poor J didn't get to go outside and play on his birthday due to the nearly 5 inches of rain we received yesterday. He just played with Irun Man all day.

K memorized the New Testament books

Image
K had a challenge at Life Group. The teacher asked them to memorize the New Testament books in one month and they would be rewarded with a webkinz. That was all the incentive that K needed. She memorized the books and won that mouse webkinz. She is so excited to have it. The dentist today asked if K had any webkinz and she said yes, she has 4. K told her how she got the last webkinz so they put her on the spot and asked if she could recite the books of the New Testament for her. She said them perfectly. Way to go K.P. We are so proud of her.

I took K to get her first pedicure yesterday. She was so shy! She would hardly speak to the ladies. I think the fact that they spoke another language was intimidating for her. She just looked around and took it all in.

J's first dentist appointment

Image
Image
J and K went to the dentist today. The dental assistant said, "his personality enters the room before he does!" Oh yes, we know that his personality shines. I don't know if that is good or bad. It just depends on the day.

Random thoughts from J.

Do people on cartoons ever go potty?

We had storm damage and shingles blew off our house. I
picked up the shingles and put them in the garage.
J. found them and threw them on my car.
I didn't see him do this but K told me. J. came to me
and said, Mom, I love you." I asked why
he came in from outside to tell me he loved me.
He never let on. "I just wanted to," he said.

J and his explanations

This morning I gave the kids cereal to eat after they had asked for life savers for breakfast and I had said no. I left the room to get ready for the day. J came to me and said, "I am eating a life saver since you didn't cook."

J and I went to Kohl's and for his birthday I bought him some Superman and Batman pajamas. He couldn't wait to get home and put on the Superman pajamas. I explained that when we go pick K up from school he would need to change into real clothes and he asked why. I said that since we were going out to lunch he would need to wear clothes. He said "Well, people won't know that I am not wearing real clothes because they will think I am the real Superman and these are my real clothes."

You look pretty, not really!

K was whining because she doesn't feel well and J looked at her and said, "You look pretty." B and I said, "Oh, how sweet. Brother thinks you look pretty." J responded, "Well, not really but I wanted her to feel better." We all laughed and he said, "God likes you to say nice things because we know he is God."

Long time no posting..

I know I haven't posted on my blog in awhile but we have been really busy. Between soccer for both kids, dance class and school work there doesn't seem like there is much down time.

I had a girls weekend with my friends from high school and it was a lot of fun! We just went to Dallas and shopped and hung out. My dad and step mom kept the kids and the kids seemed to love time with Bisus and Pops.

The other night B was reading the 10 Commandments to the kids and K. was really upset that there is suppose to be a day of rest and she doesn't get a day of rest. She has soccer Saturday mornings, church on Sunday and school the other days. She said next winter she wants to use Saturday mornings to rest. Sounds good to me.

J and I were going over his letter sounds and I told him how smart he is that he knows all his letter sounds. He said, "Yes, I am probably the goodest in the world." I guess he isn't hurting in the self esteem area either.

I need some alone time

J and I were laying down watching cartoons together and I told him I needed to get up and do some things. His reply was, "Good I was needing some alone time." I think I may say that too much.

What is in your mailbox?

J told me he likes to stick his finger in the corner of his eye to see if there is any sleep there. He says he pretends it is his mailbox. "You know sometimes you check it and there is nothing there and sometimes you check it and there is something in there. Just like your mailbox."
That is something I would have never thought of but leave it to a child.

The Worst Day of K's Life

We were out eating and this couple kept looking at us. Finally I made eye contact with them and they asked me if my kids were twins. I said, "No they are 21 months apart." Their response was, "Oh he is older?" One glance at K and I could tell she was about to blow her top. So I smiled and explained she was older. The couple asked how old they were and I explained that K is 5 and J is 3. The woman let her mouth drop wide open and she said,"He is 3?" "He is very big for 3." He is tall for 3! The couple left the restaurant and K let loose. She ranted, "How could they ask if he is older!" "Can't they tell I am the oldest!" Her eyes filled up with tears and she was fuming for about an hour. I gladly welcome anyone who wants to say I look younger than I am but at her age I guess that is unacceptable.

Waterburger

While we were in Dallas we were trying to decide what to eat for dinner one night. B suggested Whataburger. K looked at me and asked how they keep the water in the burger. I was laughing so hard I couldn't answer her. We had to explain Whataburger not Waterburger.
Our trip to Dallas was fun. We didn't eat at the Rainforest but we went by to see where cousin S. got scared by the elephant when he was a baby. We swam and ate out a lot. We walked around the Gaylord Hotel and looked at all the sights. We even drove to Sanger in the flash flood and let the kids spend one night. We got to see Debbie (who believe it or not had never met J and hadn't seen K since she was 1!) I am glad to be home so I can catch up on laundry.

My Rock Star

J has decided he wants to be a rock star when he grows up. K, J and I were eating lunch the other day and J made the announcement that he had chosen his career path. He said he wants to have wild hair that sticks up. K said, "Pink hair?" J said, "Yes, pink hair that sticks up." K giggled at the thought. J starts into song, "Party like a rock star..." K said, "You can't party like a rock star because you can't smoke, you can't drink alcohol and you can't take drugs." J starts his song over "Party like a rock star but don't smoke and don't drink alcohol..."
J walks around our house with a guitar slung over his shoulder and he is singing and making funny faces. You know you have to make funny faces to be a rock star.

Chai Tea Latte

The other day B took J to Starbucks because he needed some coffee and J got a cinnamon roll and an organic milk. J thought that was really neat. He was bragging to K about going to the "coffee shop" with his dad and K was very upset. I took her that afternoon so it would be fair. This morning J and I went to pick K up from school and J asks if we can "go to chai tea latte." I laughed and asked if he meant Starbucks and he said yes. I guess J was a bit confused due to the fact that the words chai tea latte are an ongoing joke in our house. Several weeks ago I went to a drive thru coffee shop and I ordered a chai tea latte and the lady just looked at me and said she didn't know what I was talking about. I explained to her that I had had them there before. So I slowly said chai tea latte again. Finally the light came on and she said, "I didn't understand you because of your accent." Now I am in Oklahoma but come on it isn't like I speak with a foreign accent. Texas really isn't that different from Oklahoma. My husband finds this the perfect opportunity to make fun of my Texas accent although he is from Texas too.

K's questions for the day

Image
K's questions for the day: How would Siamese twins fly an airplane? If one was a pilot the other would be sitting on the controls. What would happen if there were a boy Siamese twin and a girl Siamese twin and the girl wanted to be in tap and ballet?

Donkeys are real!

Image
We were on our way to church yesterday and J saw a donkey. He said, "I saw a donkey!" "Donkeys are real!" He went on to explain that in Sunday school Ms. Nancy teaches and there are donkeys are in the story. He didn't think they were real though. That gave me the opportunity to explain that if it is in the Bible it is real and it is true.

J and his Pops

Image
J was in Sunday school yesterday and his teacher asked if there were any prayer requests. J said, "Yes, would you pray for my Pops?" Ms. Nancy, the teacher, said, "Is your Pops sick?" J replied, "No, he is just REALLY old." Ms. Nancy was so tickled she said she had a hard time praying. Sorry Dad!!

Sonshine

We were driving in the car the other day and K said, "The sun is in my eyes and I don't like it." I told her to turn her head the other way if she wanted. She said, "I know people say it is Jesus but I don't believe them." I asked, "The sun is Jesus?" She said, "Well, some people say Jesus is the light." I had to explain that the light just means good and darkness is how they refer to sin. She said, "Oh, I get it!"

Oh cool! It knows what I am thinking!

J and K got a balloon today and they have been playing with it all day. This evening J had the balloon and was standing right next to it. It had rubbed his hair and had static. He did not realize this but he would squat down and the balloon would follow and he would stand up and the balloon would rise. He kept repeating this and then exclaimed, "Oh cool! It knows what I am thinking!" I truly wish I had had that on video. It was so funny!

Straight A's

We were having the discussion of straight A's with the kids and they were very interested in whether we made straight A's. B said he did mostly make A's but he did get some B's and J said, "Well, if you can't make straight A's then you can't be in high school." Okay, you have to think literally here. He was thinking if you can't write straight A's then you can't move on to high school. K thought that was funny and she laughed at him. B put her on the spot and asked her what straight A's meant and she said, "Well, if you cheat you aren't making straight A's." So that whole conversation was over their heads although they sure thought they understood.

The man of the house

J and K were laying on the bed with B and J told B to "put cartoons on and get him a drink." B said, "Are you the king of the house?" J replied, "No, I am the man of the house!"
Enough said!

Anyone for onion pie?

It was really cold the other night and B had promised K he would take them for ice cream after dinner. I did not want to get out so I suggested I make dessert and B added that he would take them to lunch and out for ice cream the following day. The kids agreed that this was a good idea.
I am in the kitchen cooking and K comes in and asks what I am making. I said, "Onion pie." She was so upset she slammed my cookbook closed and started crying. She threw herself on the floor and continued to sob. I explained to B what the problem was and he told K that he loved onion pie and so did J.
I finally told her that I was kidding and that I was making brownies. She quit crying and went on her way.

J got a haircut

B decided to cut J's hair. They were in the bathroom and J was sitting in a chair and B was working on getting the cut just right. I overhear J say, "I was thinking I look like Big Foot." B said, "Your hair looks like Big Foot?" J said, "Yes, my hair is the same color as Big Foot's." "I think I might have his hair." B. trying to be funny said, "Do you have the same mother as Big Foot?" J said, "Nahhhh!"

Not Hillary Clinton!

We must talk too much about politics in our house. I took the kids to a restaurant and they had a television on. Hillary was on the television and K says, "No, not Hillary!" "I don't like her." Some people in the restaurant started laughing and others did not.

Catch the flying hutch

Last night was eventful as usual at our house. K and J decided to push the hutch on top of our computer desk off into the floor. I caught the hutch before it hit the ground not before it smashed the printer, the trim on the door, the hutch itself and the wall. The hutch is broken and it will never be the same. I had the kids bring me the phone while I was holding the hutch (I wasn't strong enough to lift it back onto the desk)and I called the neighbor who came over and helped me lift the hutch back onto the desk.

The race is on....

J, K and one of their friends were running when we were leaving church and J being the youngest was not about to be outdone. He was giving it his all and he looked over to make sure he was even with the older kids and smack! He ran right into the Chapel door that was propped open. Poor thing! So much for keeping up with the big kids.
We went to lunch and then came home and the weather was so beautiful we decided to play outside. The kids played on their bikes, on the scooter and then decided to play baseball with the automatic t that shoots out the balls. J decided he wanted to figure out how the machine worked so he was looking inside it just as it shot out one of the soft balls. It smacked him in the forehead and it sent him back three steps before he landed on his bottom. We were all laughing so hard. Thank goodness he thought it was funny because I couldn't stop laughing.

The frustration mounts

This has been a really hard week. B has been gone since early Saturday morning and things have been very out of sorts lately. I will try to put this nicely...J has been very active lately. He got mad at me for telling him no when he demanded I bring his "hairplanes" in to the living room so he could play with them. I explained he could get them if he wanted them bad enough. He walked over to the wall where the door bell is and kicked it so hard that the case for the doorbell fell into the floor. I took him to time out and he decided to take his night light and knock a little hole in his wall. All of this is after I took him to pick up K from school and he unbuckled his seat belt and started running around in the back of the Tahoe. I thought about taking him to the police station and having a policeman talk to him about car safety and I probably will next time (hopefully there won't be a next time!) Today K and J decided it would be fun to take a black ink pen and write or color in our white trim around the windows in the living room. After cleaning that up I went in to my bathroom to find soapy hand prints all over the mirror and the sink filled with water and a wet towel in the sink. J also decided to remove his clothes and take a red ink pen and draw all over himself. Let's put it this way, he has tattoos in places I didn't know a person could have tattoos. Any grandparents ready for a visit??????????? It sounds like I don't spend any time with my kids but the second I fold a load of laundry or decide to clean a room they move to the other room and get in trouble. I am very blessed to be their mommy but I am so tired right now.

J's garden

B and I have been discussing building a house and we have been telling the kids we can get a dog if we get a bigger backyard. They want a dog so badly. Last night the subject came up again and I said we could also grow a big garden and then the discussion began as to what we would grow in the garden. K thought we could grow carrots to feed the bunnies that hop around in the spring. J came up with the wonderful idea that we grow bones for the dog we will be getting. K looked at us as though I know what he said won't work but it will be our secret. She added, "Yes, we could send our carrots to Mema and Pa so they could feed the rabbits that Wally chases." I love the conversations we get into at the dinner table. The conversations can be so entertaining and they enlighten me to how the kids think.

Don't tell J a secret

Our upstairs is used for the kids play area and the kids were told yesterday to put away their toys. They were upstairs for about 3 hours and did nothing so they are grounded from television and the computer. K wanted to go back upstairs after dinner to get a toy and she was told the only reason she could go upstairs was to clean. She came to me and asked me not to tell B. that she was going to sneak upstairs to get a toy. I explained that I would not lie to B. She decided to try to get a partner in crime from J. She whispered in his ear, "Let's go upstairs and get my Doodle Bear but don't tell Dad." J said, "Okay." Then he turns to B and says, "We are going somewhere and I can't tell you where." B said, "Where are you going J?" His response was, "Upstairs but its a secret." K started crying and was terribly upset that J ratted her out. Then J said, "I wasn't suppose to tell you. Okay, now I am going somewhere and I am not telling you where." B said, "J, where are you going?" He responded, "I can't tell you this time."

The joys of childhood

Yesterday I went shopping to get J some underwear that fit. His were getting a little tight in the waist. I bought a wide assortment of styles and colors hoping that some of them would be satisfactory. I got home and I was showing him the different styles I had bought and he was so excited. He said, "Can I try them on?" I let him try them on and then I stuck them in the washer. Well, there were a few pair that I hadn't washed yet and he found them. For the next hour every time I looked up he was wearing a different pair. He kept telling me, "I love my new underwear" and "Mom, see my new underwear." Then he asked where the other pairs were and I explained that I had to wash them so he could wear them. He said, "Can I just look at them?" I said he could go look in the dryer and see them tumbling around (we have a front load dryer). He just sat in the laundry room floor watching them turn. When the dryer was done he pulled them out and just held them. I really wish I had known that new underwear were that exciting because it would have saved us a lot of money at Christmas time.

My funny little girl

Let me start by saying how politically correct my daughter is. She tries very hard not to hurt anyones feelings. She is also a daddy's girl! At lunch today I was telling B. all the errands I needed to run. The last one was I had to take K. to tap and ballet at 4:30 and K. said, "Well, mom since you are so busy running errands you can let dad take me to tap and ballet and that will be one less thing you have to do." I laughed and told B. that her politically correct answer was meant to not hurt my feelings. K. said, "Well, I don't like to hurt anyone's feelings. There are two ways you can say things. One way hurts and the other one doesn't so I was trying to say the one that wouldn't hurt your feelings."
Later in the day K. was watching The Golden Girls. I told her I use to watch that show when I was young. She said, "Mom, why is it in color then?"

Sweet talker

J has been in trouble today for disobeying and I finally put him in his room for time out and when his time was up I went to talk to him. I am looking him in the eye and I say, "J, you have to start obeying." He smiles and says, "Mom, you're so pretty." Sweet talking at 3! Boy are we in trouble.

K was baptized

Image
K was baptized on Dec 30, 2007. We are so proud of her. This is the testimony she had to write:
I know Jesus has to talk into your heart before you make a decision to follow Jesus. I felt God talking to my heart and I knew it had to be Jesus. I felt God talking to me, so I said, "Mom, I feel God talking to me, when can I be baptized?" I didn't know about the prayer of salvation until then. We called Daddy, since he was away on a trip and I said a prayer of salvation. I was quite nervous.
