J and our discussion on aging
I was talking to J and K about how the kids take care of their parents when they get old and I asked if they were ready to take care of me. J said, "I will take your dentures out for you." Then he said, "I can't believe you are 40, I think you must have skipped a few numbers." I love that boy. He is just the smartest guy.

J is such a character
The kids overheard B and I talking about the Brett Favre controversy and K asked what was going on. I tried to explain without too many details. I said, "He has a girlfriend on the side." J said, "On the side of what?" Love the innocence. I got to explain that he was married with a girlfriend outside of the marriage and how God feels about that.
We have finally broken down and decided to get a dog. The notes left around the house that read, "Dear Mom, Can we get a dog? Please, please, please!" and pictures that the kids have drawn with their imaginary dog were just too much. B and the kids went to the store to get the supplies to build a doghouse. We were eating dinner and explaining to the kids that the dog would stay outside and I said I didn't want a dog in my kitchen. J said, "Yeah, you might accidently slip and cut it with a knife." That isn't exactly my reason for not wanting a dog in the kitchen but....as clumsy as I am I guess I might slip.

Weekend Activities
K is in the middle of a soccer tournament this weekend and J is on his first Cub Scout camp out. K's first game went well. She scored a goal and the team won 4-1. Her next game was eventful. K got tackled first thing, yes, we are playing soccer. That set the tone for the rest of the game. This was one of the roughest games I have seen (at the 8 year old level). K started getting rough with them as well and she ended up getting a yellow card. I didn't understand what a yellow card was until someone told me the next card is red and you are ejected from the game and you are not allowed to play in the next game. Ooops! Anyway, the coach was not at all upset with K. In fact, she let the referee have an earful. We ended up tying 2-2. K's team plays today at 12:30 for the championship.
J's camp out went well. The boys had so much fun. B called last night to tell me that J spotted a snake. He and a group of boys were running around playing and J yelled, "snake! snake!" The boys went to get the adults and showed them where the snake was lying. Turns out it was a three and a half foot copper head snake. When the adults asked J how close he was to the snake he showed about 4 inches. He said, "I wasn't the closest though. Connor was that close to the snakes head. I was by the tail." Can I tell him this is his last camp out? I hope he enjoyed it enough for a lifetime!
Flag football is going well for J. He loves it! He gets out there and moves "like a pro." Funny it just looks different when a 6 year old moves like a pro. Too bad I didn't have a video camera because he would love to see his pro moves when he is 17. These times are busy but I am so blessed by my Lord. God truly has given me a gift in each of my children. I am very thankful!!
