My Favorites This Week

The idea of sharing my favorite finds from around the internet (or interwebs as the people at 8,000 feet like to call it) is really a cool idea for me. I love being able to tell you about what other people out there are doing and doing well.  I hope you find it fun too!

Oh-Come-Let-Us-Adore-Him

Christmas || Aka Design + Life is getting me in the Christmas spirit! As far as I’m concerned, any time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is fair Christmas game!  And now I’m getting excited 🙂

Blog || Maize Hutton is that blog that has had my attention this week.  There are such cute designs and ideas here.  I absolutely adore these ornaments and her Antropologie inspired mistletoe (I really want to make this for Christmas) but the whole blog is pretty cool.

pictureframe

Home || Picture frame on Pinterest — I love the idea of using an old window as a picture frame.  And, luckily for me, I have one at home!  Now to just find the wall space to put it up…

Acorn Squash

Food || Avocado & Quinoa Stuffed Acorn Squash from Jeanine Love & Lemon looks absolutely amazing doesn’t it?!?!?!  She is a vegetarian, which is just fine by me, but Nate doesn’t believe you can have a meal without meat and dairy.  I saw this and thought it would be a perfect post-Thanksgiving meal… and for my carnivore hubby… add some leftover turkey and top with cheese.

Fashion ||  The Berry has a ton of cute fashion ideas in this post. This one looks like it would even be great for winter.  Cozy and comfy, just my style!

Happy Thanksgiving!

thankful

I hope you are having an amazing day with your friends and/or family!  And I hope you have many, many things to be thankful about on such a food-filled day!

There are so many things I am thankful for every day but to list a few here:

  • I am so thankful for Nate who I love more every day and who I can’t believe I’ve been married to for almost a year.  Its been one great year!
  • I’m so thankful that I live close to my brother and sister in law.  Its been great getting to know them more and getting to do life with them so often.
  • I’m so thankful for wonderful parents who love and support me and who will be moving so close to me soon!!
  • I’m so thankful for my Cambodian family who I miss every day!
  • I’m so thankful for friends [even the ones I hardly get to see] all over the world. I’m so thankful for Facebook so we can stay in touch.

And, I’m thankful for Cranberry Relish from Zehnders [and that they have the recipe online].  You know I’m eating some today!

Easy Slow Cooker Swedish Meatball Recipe

Our oven is currently broken.  I didn’t think it would be a big deal, I mean, how often do we really use it??  Often, apparently!  Luckily we have great landlords/friends who are at our house measuring the location to get a new one soon.

But in the meantime, Nate and I wanted to make something that didn’t require a stove.  And then I started to think about the Swedish Meatballs that we used to make at my Dad’s old restaurant.  They sounded delicious.  So I jumped online and Six Sister Stuff came to the rescue with their Slow Cooker Swedish Meatball Recipe.

And they were delicious!

Nate and I paired them with some noodles and cooked carrots.

Yummy!

Enjoy!

Update on the Baby Blanket

As I thought in my previous Baby Blanket post the weather was not very nice this weekend… so I got to spend quite a bit of time turning my circles into squares and I’m pretty excited about the way they turned out!  Now I just need to crochet them all together.  If the weather stays the way it is I’ll have plenty of time this week!

Cowboy Cavier

Every time I make Cowboy Cavier I think of my Aunt Dawn, she was the one who introduced me to this delicious dish a few years ago.  I just joined a book club at work where they do a pot luck lunch.  I thought this would be the perfect dish to introduce myself with.  And people loved it!  I can’t say I’m surprised 😉

Tablespoon.com has the recipe I used.

Looking online, a few other people added avocado to it… maybe I’ll have to try that next time!

Enjoy!

My Favorites This Week

I love when I see different blogs that post some of their favorite this through out the week.  So why not do that here too, right?!?!

melt crochet

Blog || OneSheepishGirl has so many cute ideas and pretty pictures.  I spend *a few* hours reading thru everything she has on her site and I was so inspired.

strong

Strong || This Painting on Etsy made me thing of someone with so much strength.  On days I don’t feel so strong its a beautiful image to go back to.

Funny ||  I couldn’t stop laughing at this. Seriously… Hahahaha!

Easy-Healthier-Crockpot-Butter-Chicken-10

Food to Try || Half Baked Harvest has a recipe for Butter Chicken.  I haven’t had that since Cambodia (I know, the irony) but it sounds so good! Doesn’t it just look delicious.

Baby Blanket

Well, its been some time since I last checked in and I have to tell you I didn’t mean to leave you hanging with my story about fly strips… I’m so sorry!  But now I’m back and I wanted to let you know that I have figured out how to crochet!!  It only took a few YouTube videos and a few small patterns and I was off, ‘hooked’ as Nate has told me!

I’ve made a few different things so far (pictures hopefully to come soon) but what I’m working on right now is a blanket that I found from Pinterest (don’t you just ❤ Pinterest).  Three Beans in a Pod was the one who made the pattern so I have to give her credit for the cool idea.

So far I only have the about 3/4 of the circles made but this weekend we are supposed to be getting a blizzard so I have a feeling I’m going to have some time to work on the blanket.  The circles are turquoise, yellow, and brown.  I had to really contimplate if I was going to use the yellow I have at home or buy some… mostly because the yellow came from my Grandma Poll’s collection before she passed away.  But, in the end I decided that yarn left in the drawer was being well used.

Before you get too excited about me making a baby blanket, its for a friend of mine who is pregnant, not for me!

Last Day

Yesterday was our last day to spend with the kids. It was a fun filled blast of a day. It started with Wendy giving a lesson on loving yourself. At the end of Wendy’s lesson, each team member said something they liked about one of the kids. Peter, our translator, would then translate the message for the kids to understand.
After Wendy’s lesson we took the kids to see a movie, bowling, and pizza. The movie we saw was Big Hero 6. It was absolutely fantastic.
Finally we returned to the Church  where we said our goodbyes to the kids. This was hard since many of us have grown attached to the kids through the years.
In closing none of this would have been possible without the Lord’s blessings and your prayers and support.  The gospel is being proclaimed through out Cambodia. Thank you and God bless

Love

Yesterday the morning was spent at the Central Market where we bought prizes and games for the carnival we are going to have for the kids today. The market has everything you would ever need. It also has things you don’t need.  It was a very interesting experience. After the market, we went to the orphanage for the afternoon. Beth talked about love languages and each kid took the love language test. The five love languages are gifts, acts of service, time, touch, and words. The results were very interesting.  It was once again a great way to spend time with the kids

Thankfulness

Sunday Nov 9, 2014

Today was a full day. The morning started off at Phnom Penh  New Life Church where we heard a sermon on the blessings of God. From church we visited a local mall. Just for instant I thought I was back at Lenox Mall in Atlanta. There were all sorts of high end stores There was even a movie theatre playing first run movies.
After visiting  the mall,  we went to the orphanage. At the orphanage, we played games with the kids and had Thanksgiving dinner with the kids where we ate sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Before the meal, each kid said one thing he/she was thankful for. I heard some amazing responses such as being thankful for a home, thankful for God’s salvation, thankful for food, thankful for God’s grace, and many other wonderful things. Each team member then mentioned something they were thankful for. We then sang the prayer song that the kids sing before every meal at the orphanage.
