An effort to promote the activity of birdwatching to Labuan island thru Avitourism. Labuan's area comprises the main island (Labuan Island – 91.64 square kilometres or 35.38 square miles) and six other smaller islands, Burung, Daat, Kuraman, Big Rusukan, Small Rusukan and Papan island with a total area of 91.64 square kilometres (35.38 square miles). The islands lie 8 kilometres (5.0 miles) off the coast of Borneo, adjacent to the Malaysian state of Sabah and to the north of Brunei Darussalam, on the northern edge of Brunei Bay facing the South China Sea. Labuan Island is mainly flat and undulating; its highest point is Bukit Kubong at 148 metres (486 feet) above sea level. Over 70% of the island is still covered with vegetation. They are waterbirds, landbirds or raptors, they fly over different parts of the world – but they all face similar threats during their migration. These seven flagship species of migratory birds will help you better understand what is at stake and what we can do. Labuan Avian Group join the global event on 10th May 2017.
It’s that time of year again! Four weeks from today is Global Big Day. Labuan Avian Group for the 2nd year contribute to the global event result to ebird via Borneo Bird Club. Thanking to Mr. Cede Prudente for the invitation. As for Labuan island many, many thanks to Mr. Mohd Aswad Mohd. Sa’dan dan Mr. Zamri Zawawi and their family for the commitment and support.
Every January, thousands of volunteers across Asia and Australasia visit wetlands in their country and count waterbirds. This event is called the Asian Waterbird Census (AWC), which is part of a global waterbird monitoring programme, the International Waterbird Census. Labuan Avian Group join the Global event under Malaysian Nature Society (Sabah) branch with supervision by EAST ASIAN-AUSTRALASIAN FLYWAY PARTNERSHIP.
Wader Conservation World Watch is all about participating and standing up to say“We Care!”. Labuan Avian Group took the challange and participate the world wide event by doing the waders census and record during their migration season. Thanks to Mr. Mohd Aswad Mohd Sa’dan and Mr. Zamri Zawawi for the commitments.2016 results. Together have seen 125 species. There have been 245 observers. In 38 countries. On 6 continents in all 9 flyways. Weldone.
