Stung by a Stingray

I told myself this would be the summer I learned to surf. I know too many people who can't get enough of it, so I figure there has got to be something special about it. I bought a big blue costco longboard, a couple of wetsuits, and I was ready to go. Then we had a baby and we got busy and I didn't go out much. 4 Weeks ago I went out for the first time. I'm still not very good but I did manage to catch a few waves. After catching a wave, I was in really shallow water and I felt like it would be much faster to just walk the surfboard out to bigger waves. As I looked around, I noticed that none of the other surfers were walking back like me. They all jumped back on their boards as soon as they could and swam back out to the waves. Right as I was thinking about this I stepped on something squishy, and then it got me. I felt a burning sharp sting in my right foot. It was a stingray! After the initial shock, the pain really wasn't that bad. I figured I should get out though and go home and call a doctor or something. It was bleeding pretty bad and was hurting more every minute. By the time I got home it was seriously painful. It turns out that hot water breaks up the poison and eases the pain perfectly. After a couple of hours, the pain was gone and that was that. But can you believe it, a stingray? Crazy! I have been surfing a couple more times and you bet I always get back on my board right away now.

PS Although most of the previous posts were by me (Heather) in my last days of pregnancy nesting craziness, this actually happened to Jacoby! I have yet to ever try surfing:)

Angels Game
Last night we went to the Angels Game with my family for Mormon Night. It was a lot of fun for us but our kids weren't too thrilled with the game of baseball. The idea of eating non-stop snacks all night however did appeal to them so they had a great time. After eating their way through donuts, gummi bears, popcorn, and fruit snacks (and this was after getting some del taco for dinner on the way there) they then proceeded to say "Is that all? Didn't you bring anymore snacks?" And I thought I had brought enough to feed a few families. Silly me! Maybe it's just a glimpse of the high school years with all these boys......

Beach Day
This was our second beach trip with Brock (his first was at three weeks old). I love the beach in the summer but trying to nurse and keep sand off a newborn as well as avoid all sun exposure is quite the task! Rett and Coby however are always so good at the beach. We can stay for hours and hours and they are just as happy as can be!

Rett's 3rd Birthday
Rett is now 3! He is such a funny kid. He loves to come give me hugs after he has been naughty and then say "I still love you mommy." I love the cute little way he talks and We spent the morning at the mall where they have a train ride and a bounce house to play in. Then after dinner we had a dance party, presents and of course cake. Rett was pretty excited about his spiderman cake, lumpy frosting job and all. Kids are so easy to please sometimes:)

Brockton David Larson
Labor itself was a bit rough because everytime they rolled me on my back I kept feeling like I was going to pass out (which never happened with the other two). And then whenever I tried to go on my right side the baby's heart dropped a bunch so I spent the morning just on my left side. But then when it's time to deliver you obviously have to be on your back and so it was all I could do to not pass out let alone breathing and pushing. My epidural worked a little to well this round that I couldn't feel anything at all anywhere so that made it even harder. But he made his way out and was so beautiful. On a funny note, when I saw Brock my first thought was he is so small. Upon saying that out loud I am sure everyone thought I was a little crazy because 9 1/2 lbs. is not small in the baby world. But when you are dealing with a 4 year old and an almost 3 year old who are both large for their ages, then 9 1/2 lbs. seems pretty small.
Since Gayle was watching the boys for us we had a few days of just us in the hospital and it was such a sweet time. Time to just be there for our new baby without other kids and the demands of life getting in the way. Time to just reveal in this new miracle. And then it was time to let the boys meet their new brother. I think they were thinking he'd be bigger and more able to play with them but since they both got a gift from their new brother they thought he was pretty cool.

Overdue
It's June 16th and I am STILL pregnant. Um, due date was yesterday little baby which means I am overdue (and very cranky about it!) Overdue is just a bad word. It never means anything good. Go to the library and your books are overdue and now you owe a bunch of money. Work hard at your job and your raise is overdue and now you are short on cash. Anyways around it overdue can only mean bad things. Which is why someone who's spent the last nine months throwing up, having heartburn and feeling like their body was being stretched to unimaginable sizes should not ever have to be overdue. When you have had a baby five days early you just kind of expect that the next one will be on the same program and getting moving sooner. Too bad no one told the baby that.

Funny Kid Thoughts
Somehow the idea came along that my baby was going to "pop-out" rather than saying it was going to be born. So whenever they ask about the baby they want to know if the baby is going to pop-out soon. Yesterday we were going to play candyland. I had been sitting on the couch and slowly rolled myself onto the floor mentioning how I couldn't wait for this baby to come because then sitting on the floor and playing games would be so much easier. Rett looks at me with a look of disgust and says "Your baby going to pop-out on the game???"
Another morning I was playing with Rett in the room and asking him if he was my baby. He said no he was getting bigger and bigger like Coby. Then he pauses and adds, but not like Susan. (If you've seen Monsters vs. Aliens you will get this one!)
We continue to play and he picks which Ninja Turtle he is going to be and then tells me what each ninja has for a weapon and their color. When we get to Donatello I say and he has a stick right and Rett looks at me like how dumb are you and says "It's not a stick it's called a bowstaff." Oh, didn't think he knew the real word. Just goes to show you how much smarter kids are then you give them credit for!
Since I have horrific heartburn while pregnant and it's fairly warm lately, I tend to eat a lot of ice. My kids always want to know why and I tell them it helps me to feel better. The other day I was laying on the couch because I felt nauseas and Coby upon seeing me says "Oh no, I will go get you some ice!" If only ice was the cure-all for all problems:)

Hail?
Kind of crazy but yesterday, June 3rd in San Diego we had some hail! There was bit of rain in the morning and then a little after lunch it suddenly started raining big ole drops and some of them were hail. I took a picture of a few of them, they were about the size of marbles in the Hungry Hippo game to give you an idea. And we had some lightening and thundering, things we never have here. It made me miss Utah's suddenly spring storms.

Legoland
I will let Jacoby add commentary since he was the one to actually go, but some friends in our ward had some extra tickets to Legoland. They had already been (these were return day tickets) and since they just have a three month old they figured our boys would love to go. So Mark invited Jacoby & the boys to go with him for the day and the kids had a blast!
I will add some pictures later too!
Here's Coby on the rollercoaster. Notice no noise out of Rett but Coby on the other hand is quite vocal:)

Why I love craigslist....
So craigslist really has changed out lives. Sounds a bit silly, but it's true! We save so much money buying everything used. Most of the time we buy things for a great price, use it for a year or two and are able to sell it right back for the same or more than we bought it for. It helps us to be really frugal but also to still get the things we want. And its not like our kids don't ding or break everything within a few minutes of bring it home so the few things we buy new always looked used in minutes!! I thought I would show you a little of our deals in the baby department. And most of it looks brand new and was only used with one child (oh the joys of living in california where everyone buys things brand new and then is done with them!)
Crib, mattress, bedding: Retails for $800, we paid $230.
Changing Table, changing pad, & cover: Retails for $150, we paid $20.
Shermag glider & ottoman: Retails for $250, we paid $50.
Baby Swing, Bassinet w/ sheets, Bouncer, & playmat: Retails for $340, we paid $135.
Bottom line: We paid $435 instead of $1540 plus tax!!! Best of all we used money from all the baby stuff we sold when we moved so we didn't have to use any from our regular budget. Man I love craigslist:)
(Unforunately because of the style of the crib when its at its highest setting you can't see how cute the bedding set is because the wood drop down gate is blocking all the cute embroidery! The middle of the bumper looks like the window hanging and so does the bottom of the crib skirt which you also can't see!)

Projects
So in getting ready for this baby I have had this massive list of things I wanted to get done or accomplished before he came. Maybe I have this feeling I might not ever have free time again, crazy I know:) One of those (if you haven't already noticed) is to get all caught on our blog so when he comes we can blog about!! Whenever I think about blogging, I always remember all the other things I still haven't blogged that need to come first and then I usually don't end up doing anything. So hence the three months worth of blogs in the last week. We really will try and keep more on top of it in the future I hope.
This is my latest creative project. I made some super cute burp clothes since I couldn't find any that I particularly liked or was willing to pay that much for. Then I also made cute little squares for the changing table so if there are any messes you just wash the little square versus having to have multiple covers (which are quite pricey). And if you are like us and have to drag your laundry down the stairs and down the walkway to the laundry room you try to never make extra trips even if the baby has blown through things!

Karate
Gymnastics
Here he is at gymnastics. The teacher would actually have him do some more advanced skills then some of the other kids since he was able to master it faster. He really liked gymnastics so we are going to sign him up for the next level in the fall. I was also impressed that he knows some lingo like a straddle, open pike, closed pike, and c-body(not sure what that is but its some kind of jump) and can demonstrate them all to me.
