Tale as Old as Time

I spent this weekend catching up on animation movies that I've always enjoyed - Beauty and the Beast and Anastasia. NST and I also booked our tickets to Phantom of the Opera, our second experience of this musical, VIP style this time round!

I realized I really enjoy musicals and animation movies. I figure it has got to be the music, the singing and the emotions that those carefully crafted words elicit that draw me. In animation, the facial expression on the characters are never going to be as authentic as what you would perceive in real life. In musicals, you might not be seated near enough to capture the emotions portrayed on stage. What captures our imagination is thus the voice and the words that are spoken, or the songs that are sung. The singing often begins when the emotions are at its peak, when one is loneliest, saddest, happiest or most determined. The singing amplifies what spoken words are trying to convey, and tells us things that words cannot express.

It is the same with writing (and blogging). I've been lacking inspiration the past few years in blogging but recently a surge of quiet courage comes back to me, like the gentle rain that greets the dry earth (and it is drizzling as I type this :) I feel like expressing myself in words again. So I hope you who are reading this would find beauty in some of the words that I might occasionally express in this journal of mine. Here's a song that I've been listening to this week :)

Inspired by Streetsy: 40+ Street artists You Should Know Besides Banksy, I sieved through 1,761 photos taken during Fall 2007, to put together this set of streetart pics that I took in Europe. I might not know the names of the artists, but their artworks sure made the streets and allies of the cities I'd been to, come alive and a lot more memorable.

Twistori

I came across twistori today and it's really cool! Essentially, it captures the emotions going around the twittersphere via the key words: love, hate, think, believe, feel & wish. Mac users can even get it as a wallpaper. Such mashups are what make twitter and web 2.0 so addictive and fun!

I'm a MAC but these PC ads ain't too bad.

I got to say that this new series of re-branding ads from Microsoft is pretty good. They try hard to change people's stereotype that all the cool funky people are in the MacWorld (which is true), and the rest of the world are PC. Well of course this is NOT going to make me ever want to go back to being a PC, but I think from the branding perspective this is good effort. One would think it would be such a tough job retaliating against those really funny & cool I'm a Mac/I'm a PC ads, but hey, this is not too bad, PC.

MAC + Purple. The 2 things I love now.

I don't usually drink coffee, and the day I did a couple of days back, I spilled it over my tablet PC. That marks the end of my relationship with Windows and I'm embracing the MacWorld with lots of joy and excitement. It's awesome that the SMU Mac community is so friendly and helpful and it took me nothing to configure everything.

FYI Purple is my favorite color, for some reasons. That is why I have to say that when Yahoo starts bleeding purple, I'm really happy. Check out Yahoo's Start Wearing Purple campaign.
