About damn time...

I'm not sure where time went. I told myself to write a new post several times since the beginning of 2011. And now, it's the end of September.

Not too much has changed, however. I'm still the same goofy mom, wife, sister, aunt, and friend to many. I've been training to run half-marathon, yet haven't signed up for a race yet. I still doodle way too much. My collection of Crayola products still grows. I continue to dream of getting a tattoo that represents my undying hope & deep appreciation of art. I travel on musical adventures - where I can find lyrics that express my feelings for the moment I am living.

I am still...me.

Friendship...10.19.09

This post was written about one year ago. It still holds true, so I'm posting it...

Look, it's been a L-O-N-G time since I've actually made any kind of post (outside of a quote) to my blog. And I promise I will soon, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to write what's on my mind right now.

This past weekend, I went to visit my best friend, Moe, in Dallas. Some people don't understand why I make the 5-hour trek just to spend a couple of nights with my BFF. It's my home away from home - where I can recharge my batteries; where love and support are given non-stop; where thoughts/opinions are voiced and not judged; where my laughter is constantly being heard. My husband gets it. He encourages me to go all the time. He knows the bond Moe and I share.

That bond means a lot to me. Only a couple of people know the "real" me. (Not the friend, not the sister, not the mom or any other...just me.). In all reality, Moe's second only to my husband. We've learned lots from one another. I've probably learned more from her than she's ever realized. She's the model of motherhood that I try to emulate - firm, fun, spiritual, wise, patient; but most of all, loving! She's an amazing aunt to her nieces and nephews - opening their eyes to the many views that life has to offer. Views that otherwise these children might never see. Hell, she was even the person that introduced me to tequila!

Sometimes you’re let down, sometimes you’re the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on. I count on Moe. She's the great friend I have in life. The one to which all other friends are compared to. The one I know will be there for years to come. I have been told by many that a friendship like ours doesn't come along everyday. They are right.

I love my husband; I love my sister; I love my friends...and I love my BFF.

Who invented PB&Js? (aka Trivia about Heidi's fave food)

Food historians do not know exactly when the peanut butter and jelly sandwich was first prepared and there have been no advertisements or mentions of PB&J before the 1940s. It is known, however, that both peanut butter and jelly were on the U.S. Military ration menus in WWII and some have suggested that the GIs added jelly to their peanut butter to make it more palatable. It was an instant hit and returning GIs made peanut butter and jelly sales soar in the U.S.

Because with Summer comes drinking...

Here's a nifty little article from the New York Times about summer drinks. Hope you enjoy it...

Side note: Okay, it's not the greatest post I've made in a while, but it's a post. :)
