As my grandmother has gotten older she has often quipped, "The child becomes the mother" when my mom is telling her what she needs to do. So, I expected that at some point in my life, this would also happen with me and my children. But, I really didn't expect it to happen when Lexi was only 9!! Here are three conversations from the last week to prove that we are quickly heading down this path...
I was in the bathroom folding laundry when I heard the Christmas music from the kitchen get turned way down.
From the bathroom I yelled, "Hey! Who turned down the music??"
Lexi replied, "Are you even listening to it?"
I yelled back, "Yes! I'm just folding some laundry!"
And she said, "Sorry. I came in here and the music was so loud and I didn't see anyone, so I just turned it down."
Those darn parents and their loud music!
Yesterday on our way to PT we were listening to a new Boston Pops Christmas album. I love their version of 12 Days of Christmas, so when the song was over I said, "Can we listen to it again??" Lexi said, "Ok, mom. One more time."
Later, while she was being warmed up at PT, I was dangling my necklace off my nose to make her laugh. She said to me, "Mom, I hope you don't do that at work when you have clients in your office!"
I guess it's clear that I still have some growing up to do. Lexi, on the other hand, seems to have matured to adulthood overnight!
