Shun Oguri and Masami Nagasawa to star in live-action “Gaku” adaptation

No official release date has been decided yet, but Toho has it listed for 2011.

ImageBack in January, the magazine Big Comic Original revealed that Shinichi Ishizuka’s mountain-climbing manga “Gaku: Minna no Yama” would be turned into a live-action film to be released sometime in 2011. No further details had been available until earlier today, when Toho officially announced the project to the media.

Filming is currently underway under the direction of Osamu Katayama (Heat Island) and is expected to wrap in July. Actor Shun Oguri (Crows Zero) will play a mountain rescue team volunteer named Sanpo and Masami Nagasawa (Magare! Spoon) will co-star as a new team member named Kumi. The film’s budget is said to be around 1 billion yen (~$10 million USD).

Although shooting began only a few days ago, Oguri began training under a professional mountain guide way back in December — in part, to overcome his fear of heights. Nagasawa, who had to sacrifice 12 inches of length from her hair for the role, also participated in mountain training.

Supporting cast members were also announced. Kuranosuke Sasaki (42) will play the chief of the rescue team, Takuya Ishida (23) will play a team member, Atsuro Watabe (41) will play a rescue pilot, and Yoshie Ichige (59) will play the manager of a mountain cottage.

Shun Oguri and Masami Nagasawa to Co-star in Mountain after 7 years’ absence

It is announced that Shun Oguri (小栗旬) and Masami Nagasawa (長澤まさみ) will be co-starring in the movie “Gaku (岳－ガク－, lit. Mountain)” for the first time in 7 years. The movie is scheduled to premiere in 2011.

It is adapted from a hit comic describing the cruelties of nature and warmth of people’s bond. Oguri will play the role of Sanpo Shimazaki (島崎三歩), a rescue volunteer who loves mountain deeply. Though happy with the offer, Oguri has to overcome the acrophobia first, and challenge 3-month training in the mountain during the winter. “I want to run around in the mountain and try to accomplish the shooting.” said Oguri. On the other hand, Nagasawa will play the role of another volunteer Kumi Shiina (椎名久美), for which she has cut the long hair. “I want to be as close to Kumi as possible.” said Nagasawa.

Arashi’s Jun Matsumoto Guested on Shun Oguri’s Radio Program!

At the end of March, Shun Oguri (小栗旬) will graduate from the radio program “All Night Nippon (オールナイトニッポン)” on which he has been working from 2007. On this, Arashi member’s Jun Matsumoto (松本潤) announced suddenly: “If it is going to end, I’ll go.” and joined the live broadcast as a surprise guest. The two, who are good friends in private, had deep talk at night and showed an unspoken consensus with each other.

Their first encounter was at the shooting of “Gokusen (ごくせん)”. They talked about the first impression on each other and became good friends. Later, they costarred “Hana yori Dango (花より男子)” and spent the whole night in the hotel at Narita airport because of the tight schedule. “I went to Jun’s room. Really? In the hotel at Narita airport? Jun Matsumoto brought the whole volume of the comic of ‘Hana yori Dango’. And, he said ‘Shun, I think this scene is here. I want to read the whole comic, how do you think?’ So we talked about like ‘this man is doing this at this time…’ (laugh)” It seems they talked about the performance at the sleepless night and evidently hit it off with each other.

After the live broadcast, Oguri indicated that he wanted to do something in return for his guesting. And it is said that Oguri’s appearance on the drama “Smile (スマイル)” last year was a response to Matsumoto’s request as well. Actually, they are not only good friends, but also good working partner as well. Let’s look forward to their future collaboration.

Yamada Yuu and Oguri Shun on Pre-Marriage Holidays

I didn’t know that he’s already engaged A.K.A. betrothed A.K.A. … getting married. (T__T) I thought they were just… I guess I missed the news. But oh well, another one of the actors that I’ve grown up with in the Japanese entertainment is now tying the knot. All I can say is, “Congratulations!”. *holds heart*

Yamada Yuu and Oguri Shun on Pre-Marriage Holidays With Their Family

Actor Oguri Shun and model Yamada Yuu, who have been in a relationship for quite a while now have left for a pre-marriage journey to Hawaii during the night of January 4th. 15 Minutes before their scheduled flight at 9.45 in the evening, Yamada had been seen passing through the boarding gates. Hiding behind dark sun glasses it was the gleaming ring shining on her left ring finger. When being asked, what their plans had been for Hawaii, either of the two hardly answered and just commented laughing “We’d just like to enjoy out time there.”

Five minutes later, Oguri had also been spotted. During interviews he usually only looked down and said “We just want to relax a little. After all it is a journey with our family”. Hence, Oguri’s family could also be seen around the two at that time.

As for the questions, if they were to marry this year Oguri said “That’s not our plan.” Despite the clear negation, the two of them wear the golden necklaces, representing the bond between them. According to friends and people around them, however, both of them would like to marry quickly, therefore a sudden arrangement might be possible.

Oguri Shun Drenched in 30 Liters of Water!

The actor Oguri Shun appeared at a press announcement held in Tokyo of a new TV commercial and campaign for the au mobile phone ‘BRAVIA(R) Phone U1‘. Oguri put his body in harm’s way for the TV ad that promotes the waterproof phone. 200 liters of water was chucked at Oguri, soaking him from head to toe. The scene was recreated during the press conference. This time 30 liters of water was poured down on him. While dripping water from his hair, Oguri smile wryly. “I’ve become wetter than I expected.”

Asked about the filming, he seemed slightly embarrassed about making the following comment. “With each take I got soaked, so I had to change my underwear about ten times. I don’t remember changing my underwear so many times in my whole life.” The commercial has begun to be aired from November 12th.

4 Good-looking Actors Costar on TV!

The heartthrobs Tsumabuki Satoshi, Oguri Shun, Eita and Miura Haruma all appeared as guests in the talk/variety show ‘おしゃれイズムイケメン大集合SP / Oshareism Ikemen Daishugo Special‘. The four actors had costarred in a series of TV commercials for cosmetics brand Shiseido‘s ‘uno‘ [a group of cosmetics items for men], and for the TV program they wore the identical gray suits they had used in the TV ad. The actors talked about things that had happened during the filming, and recent incidents that occurred to them in private. Also, a video segment was shown in which the youngest member Miura Haruma visited a restaurant serving organic food.

In addition the four actors revealed photos of themselves while at home. Eita had taken a picture of a still to be used ‘tawashi (たわし; handheld scrub brush)’. Eita’s unhurried manner at times drew big laughs from both the members and the audience. That was not all. The four stars took a quiz that was said to reveal their hidden personalities. The question was as follows: ‘If you had 100 roses, how many roses would you leave behind to make dried flowers?’ Oguri and Miura both answered one rose, Tsumabuki three, and Eita twenty five. The quiz was a test to see how good-looking the actors thought they themselves were. The more number of flowers, the higher the answerer valued his looks. Judging from the actors’ low scores, it seems that in order to become good-looking one must be modest as well.

Bandai has announced that children’s “Happy Set” meals available from Japanese McDonald’s restaurants on November 7 & 8 will include an exclusive Tamagotchi! Special DVD featuring original animation and a music video of “Tamagotchi Planet idol Lovelyn’s” hit song “‘Every Lovely.”

The latest Tamagotchi! anime television series will premiere on Japanese TV on the 12th.

I find meaning on Jae’s appearances on polls there. When Keita Tachibana of w-inds said that he was depressed because they were still not accepted after all the hard work they have done, then I guess this is it! Being the only Korean in this magazine says so. The Japanese doesn’t see you as Korean now, Jae, but as one of them. It’s difficult to explain but in order for this post not to be any longer, I’ll just say that to be loved by the Japanese is to shred some of your nationality. So bash me. Jaejoong is already Japanese. (U_U)

Sakurai Sho Touts ‘Masculinity’!

On September 17th the Arashi members appeared in their own TV variety program ‘ひみつの嵐ちゃん / Secret Arashi’s TV Show’. The actress Inoue Mao guest starred in the program, and was asked about her type. She replied that she liked men who have a ‘masculine’ side, especially those who can wolf down their food. So the Arashi members each took turns eating gyudon [牛丼 bowl of rice topped with beef] in what they thought was a manly fashion! Before the competition, Inoue had told Sakurai Sho that she wasn’t exactly fond of men who have stooped shoulders. Eager to prove that he could be Inoue’s type, Sakurai cracked eggs with his head, applied an unseemly amount of red peppers and red pickled gingers to his gyudon, and promptly stuffed them into his mouth. He then claimed that the gyudon had ‘no taste’, and did the unthinkable. He drank the sweet sauce used for the gyudon right from the bottle! But after all the trouble he went to, Inoue chose Matsumoto. Sakurai’s desperate moves didn’t seem to impress Inoue…but Aiba told Sakurai “That was the best laugh I had for this year!” Maybe it wasn’t all in vain!

Which Actor Would You Want as Your Boyfriend?

Recently an online store revealed the results of a survey in which female respondents were asked which actor they would like to have as their boyfriend. The Arashi members Matsumoto and Sakurai came in respectively at No.1 and No.2! The 40 year old Fukuyama Masaharu succeeded in fending off a legion of young, popular actors and took 3rd place. Although his main occupation is a singer/songwriter, he is also well known as an actor and has appeared in various TV dramas and movies. Up and coming Mukai Osamu was ranked No.4. He appeared in the TV dramas ‘アタシんちの男子 / Atashinchi no Danshi [lit. The Boys Living in My House]’ and ‘メイちゃんの執事 / Mei-chan no Shitsuji [lit. Mei-chan’s Butler]’. No.5 was Satoh Takeru who starred in the movie ‘ROOKIES -卒業- / ROOKIES -Sotsugyo- [graduation]’. The No.6 and No.7 spots were each taken by Mizushima Hiro and Kamiji Yusuke, who both appeared in the film ‘ドロップ / DROP’. Oguri Shun, Yamashita Tomohisa, Ninomiya Kazunari followed. The top 10 spots were practically dominated by multi-talented young actors and Johnny’s members!
