COLORS ~Melody and Harmony~ Music Video

The video is finally out. Once I saw the all-capitalized title “COLORS” I thought they made a remake of Utada Hikaru’s COLORS. (Ah yeah I forgot to mention I’m an Utada Hikaru fan.) If Utada’s COLORS is talking more of her memories & feelings through the colors of certain objects, Soulmate’s COLORS ~Melody & Harmony~ bring together all feelings that convey those colors like that of a rainbow. Utada’s COLORS is poetic and very deep with synthesized experimental beats while JaeChun’s song has simple melody and is easy for Hello Kitty kids to understand. Melody and Harmony simply means to color/brighten one’s world and look positively into the future together. With Soulmate composing this song, they just made Kitty’s 35th birthday extra special.

As much as I want to embed the video, it seems like Space Shower TV has claimed every COLORS in YouTube so I think captures will do?

Been So Long

Just a couple of weeks ago we had a glimpse of Soulmate’s tribute to maison de m-flo’s 10-year anniversary. Oooh… Which also reminds me that Arashi is also celebrating their 10 years. Hi, baby MatsuJun! *pinched by Jae* Ouch! It looks like everybody is celebrating a decade of their careers in Japan will Tohoshinki surpass that too? Of course.

Jae, I’m going to drop a bomb. Remember, Jae, I love you.  (Read: Please don’t be angry.)

Jae, are you trying to rap or are you just reading your the lines fast? Maybe we’ll just skip your parts? LOL Just kidding, hunny darlin’ sweetheart cutiebear! *sigh* *hug*

Now, really. This studio version is better than the Boy Pop Factory’s performance. I may associate Micky’s rapping like those of old school hip-hop artists like 2Pac, Dr. Dre,  Snoop Dogg or Warren G. (I don’t know if Micky listens to these artists because I maybe just too Western for their taste.) I grew up with some of these artists so I kinda like his style and find his raps outstanding. There’s something odd in my mind, I know it’s funny and a bit off, but why am I likening Jaejoong to Vanilla Ice or worst–Eminem?!?!? LOL Like a white man trying to rap? Hahahaha! My god I’m laughing in my blog. Sorry. I’m not a racist or something. Okay, maybe I should shut the f*ck up now. LOL

But of course they have to change the lyrics to make it maison de Soulmate style. LOL I could only half imagine Micky saying  “Kokoro no kizu naze itsumademo. Sing it. Sing it girl,” to Jaejoong. LOL Even though my baby has a voice of a soprano he’s a man, a very sensitive gentleman. He really did a fine job as the girl—I mean, as the vocals for the song. He was singing effortlessly with the flow of slow beats without losing a tone and I find that admirable. (There’s your praise, Jae.) About that laughing and giggling at the end, they probably just want to show their cheerful side. So, yeah. Avoir plaisir à faire la musique, mon Soulmate. ^__^y

I could talk about more about how slim Micky’s waist is because of that black tank top but with this post, music is more of a priority than fancy things. (Jae: Ooooh~? Really? This is the first time, Lynnie. First time.* sardonically clapping*) *ignores* There are certain parts in the interview about COLORS which I think are unforgettable…

Yoochun: The first attempt to call everyone’s attention was at the Dome. The music itself has a bright feeling, easy to remember and easy to be sung… now I’m praising it myself (laughs). Usually to compose a song, it takes us an exclusive time, but for this one, there wasn’t! I think it’s before we did the live in Fukuoka? We quickly opened a PC from the waiting room and made the arrangement… eventually it took us timing in a flash which was about 30 minutes! We finished composing it and brought it out in amazing speed. Brilliant! (laughs)

The part that becomes the point of the song?

Jaejoong: The simplicity of its composition. Even when fans had listened to it for two times only, I want them to remember it easily therefore I want to create something that has a simple melody. When we will be able to sing together with everyone live, I guess it’s going to be delightful. The truth is, for a music that was completed for only 30 minutes, we don’t really think about its quality anyway. (laughs)

August-September’s issue was Gackt doing cute things like brushing his teeth and juggling but this one’s for next month. (Why am I turning this into an all-in-one J-Pop post? It must be the Soulmate music diversity effect.)

How was the making of “COLORS~”?

Jejung: When it was decided that we will sing solos at the Tokyo Dome final, songs for Yunho and Junsu were decided immediately. Changmin followed. But we two remained undecided. So we asked the staff if we could duet together, and if we could make our very own song. the staff immediately said OK, so we started to make the song at once.

In the first stage, did you consult with each other what kind of song you targeted?

Yuchun: Yes, we did. At first, I wanted to make Western style song. But Jejung said he wanted a J-Pop kind os song that could be memorized when you heard it only. I lost…

Jejung’s idea had the priority?

Yuchun: YES! But since it would be sung at the some, I thought that Jejung’s idea (simple song that can be memorized easily) was the correct answer.

LOL. I can see now who’s the guy in this relationship. Hahaha! Well, I have to agree with Boo in this one because hellooooo~, Micky, it’s Hello Kitty thus the song should be family-oriented. LOL

So you two were so relaxed on stage. When you two sang the song at the Tokyo Dome, the audience seemed so impressed. Did you feel it?

Jejung: I felt a special feeling. It was somewhat different from other times.

Yuchun: The stage effects were simple…

Jejung: Yes, it was the cheapest. Changmin’s stage has fires, and was so hot. But we…

Yuchun: Were reasonable?

Jejung: During the rehearsal, Sam-san advised Changmin to dance and move this way and that, take care of the fire, etc. But for us, he just said, “Sing in your own world.”

Yuchun: There was no special rehearsal, the stage was it!

Jejung: We always swing our arms on stage for ‘lalala’ phrases. So, when Yuchun swinging his arms during the song, I thought,”‘Oh, I should swing my arms, too.” We made our own world on the stage that night.

Actually, you don’t need special effects for your duet, Soulmate, because you both already are the fireworks of your own performance. Simplicity is beauty. And yes, you were on your on world that night. It left a feeling that I was out of place and you both should go get a room, as Yunho per se. LOL

You had such an exciting backstage experince! What are your feelings of the others’ charms and characters as a vocalist?

Jejung: I envy Yuchun’s way of singing. Yuchun’s style is to cut short the last not when singing. On the other hand, I try to make my last note longer, and sometimes, my breath doesn’t last. Yuchun cuts the last note as “♪♫Kirameku otni tsutsumareru toki♪♫”. It doesn’t sound unnatural by cutting the notes short, and I think it’s hot. I sing, “♪♫Kirameku otoniiii tsutumareru tokiiii♪♫” so my breath does not last till the end. Yuchun’s style is hot and fascinating!

LOL. Jae, are you complaining? Haha! Well, it’s your job because you can carry very high notes while Micky’s voice is indeed hot when sang in low notes cut at the end. That doesn’t leave you much of a choice, does it? LOL

Are you aware of that point, Yuchun?

Yuchun: No, I’m not. But when I practice, I try to find an easy way tp sing. As a result, it came out like that.

Chunnie dear is a lazy dancer and a lazy singer. That means he’s genious. Always thinking about ways to make things easier.

What are Jejung’s charms and characters as a vocalist?

Yuchun: He has strong power in his sensitive voice. He can sing rock. And his vocals differ song by song. The voice of ‘Begin’ is completely different from ‘Bolero’. I truly envy that point.

Jejung, your vocal seems to differ for this song, too.

Jejung: Yes, my vocal changes song by song. It is not my will, it changes naturally. For instance, my voice becomes bold when singing ‘Bolero’ and thin when singing “Begin”.

Yuchun: I like your bold vocal, it’s all rock.

And… they were praising each other. LOL Don’t worry babies, you have just the right strengths and weaknesses that complement each other. So just, chill. I have to agree with Micky that Joongie is so J-Rock when he’s singing boldly just like in Maze.

Yes, I feel the power. In this song, you picture love. what do you think is important for love?

Yuchun: (Pointing at his eyes) EYE. (T/N The Japanese word for love is ‘ai‘, which is the same pronunciation as the English word “eye”.

Is that your sincere answer?

Yuchun: Oh, of course not…

Jejung: Cannot say in one word. Love is deep inside.

Soulmate is weak when it comes to explaining about matters of the heart eh? So better expressing it through songs then.

So let’s so on to the next question. There are lyrics “My music is my life~.” Did you have an experience that music helped you through hard times, or received its power?

Yuchun: I have told the story before, but when I was living in USA, my mother loved a piano piece. I wanted her to hear it, so I practiced the piano. Since I practiced the piano so hard at that time, I am not able to play the piano, and that is an experience that music gave power to me.

Your efforts at that time made you able to play the piano in front of the audience in the concert tour.

Jejung: Yes, my very first piano teacher was Yuchun.

Yuchun: Jejung was a fast learner than me. He understands faster. And, when he composes a song, he is very good at bringing out the melodies by playing the piano.

THIS. I didn’t know. This answers why Yoochun was always at Jaejoong’s side when he was playing the piano in certain videos.
Thanks, Micky! It seems like you’ve been a nice teacher since you made a good student.

Well, then, what music gave you power, Jejung?

Jejung: From last year, I have been listening to Beyonce‘s ‘Halo‘ and ‘Hello‘ many times. Beyonce’s vocalization is perfect, she’s very emotional, she’s a genius. Her power is limitless.

Joongie, no wonder you’re becoming more & more like a diva every year. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ll be singing, “♪♫Na, na, na, diva is a female version of a hustla of a hustla, of a, of a hustla…♪♫”

There are lyrics “Yorisotte inorukara” (T/N I will stay by your side and pray), do you have an experience that you were saved by someone staying by your side?

Jejung: I am staying by Yuchun’s side now.

Yuchun: (Stiff smile, on purpose)

Why such a stiff smile?

Jejung: I am at your side, hehehe

Jae’s tattooist has revealed some his clients’ secrets. I hope his phone number is still on Jae’s contact list after he was interviewed.

The Secret Behind Yoochun & Jaejoong’s Tattoo – An Interview with the Tattoo Master

The members of TVXQ, Jaejoong and Yoochun had recently tattooed their chest. The tattoo master said, “Jaejoong was considering the group’s future.”

In early August, probably few days after the nationwide Japanese tour, Jaejoong and Yoochun came to the shop together. That was the first time I had met Yoochun’ he kept a smile on his face. whish made us guys think he’s very cute… (Jaejoong & Yoochun called his tattoo master JP, hyung.)

…Because of the dispute with their agency, Jaejoong and Yoochun had their left chest tattooed. This was done so as to show SME [SM Entertainment] their determination.

The tattoos represent their direct response to the lawsuit. The tattoos across their left chest, which reads “ALWAYS KEEP THE FAITH”, speaks of their belief of staying together till the end.

According to JP, “That day itself, Jaejoong didn’t speak much unlike the usual him and there was little conversation between Yoochun and Jaejoong throughout the tattooing process. As compared to the past, Jaejoong looked more nervous. JP noted with a laugh, that Jaejoong usually behaves like a child, but due to Yoochun’s presence, he appeared to be more manly that day. Yoochun, on the other hand, was smiling and chatting with the staff in the shop. He looked rather relaxed.

“Tattoo master had given himself the memory of a lifetime.”…

Jaejoong described his instead to Master JP and within two hours, they discussed the design of the tattoo. Jaejoong wanted to add another tattoo to his existing “TVfXQ SOUL” tattoo. Master JP added, “THE PLEASURES OF THE MIGHTY ARE THE TEARS OF THE POOR” on the left and “A SONG WILL OUTLIVE SERMONS IN THE MEMORY” on the right…

Having known each other for two years now, Master JP is the one responsible for creating the tattoo that read “HOPE TO THE END” on Jaejoong’s back. With the increasing number of tattoos on Jaejoong, there has been much speculation by fans as to whether or not these tattoos are reflections of the painful experiences he has been facing.

In response to such speculation, Jaejoong has pointed out that he has always liked tattoos, and that his tattoos reflect his feelings at the different stages of his life.

At this year’s A-NAtion ’09 Concert, TVfXQ who have been shuttling between Japan and Korea, decided to put on their best to dispel fans’ fears of the group disbanding.

According to W-INDS member Keita Tachibana, whom Jaejoong often to distress, mentions that, “Jaejoong was once frustrated about TVXQ not being accepted despite the hard work they have put in for each performance.”…

“Wanting to design something that represents the five of them.”

While Korean media has been refuting rumors of TVXQ’s disbandment, this entire episode has made the members of TVXQ more united–once, when Yoochun shouted “TVXQ! Fight” on stage, Jaejoong wrapped his arm arounf Yoochuns shoulder and held the latter’s had; Yunho whose drams debut took place on 9th September, often received messages of encouragement from the other members throughout the filming process Changmin still continues to play music along with Jaejoong in the stufio; Junsu has been wearing a necklace that has words similar to Jaejoong and Yoochun’s tattoos.

When Jaejoong and Yoochun went to get their tattooes done in August, Master JP had brought up the issue of the contract dispute with SME, to which Jaejoong replied, “Nobody knows what’s going to happen from here, but it’ll be solved amicably.”…

“TVXQ have the same belief, and because of my bond with Jaejoong, I know that it is his wish for TVXQ to remain together forever.”

As it seems, the tattoos are like the marks they have left on each others’ hearts–perhaps it has been the strong friendship that they share, that has been their pillar of support throughout these trying times.

Now that this has become the topic, I was reminded of the movie The Tattooist. Well I hope that kind of curse wouldn’t happen to my babies. *knocks on wood*

Badass boys, Soulmate, getting tattoos or anyone for that matter is not a big deal to me since I also planned to get one of my own in the future. Our ancestors had them now why can’t I? It’s still another form of art to me. I can only have tattoos—henna ones. LOL

What I’m afraid of is that Joongie might consider a dragon tattooed from his neck to foot like that of a yakuza. O__O (No offense to the gods of Japan’s underworld.) I already know that Micky and Hero are not the type of guys my parents would want me to take home at a glance. If only they would take into consideration their kindness. *sigh* Isn’t it sweet that Soulmate thought of getting a tattoo that represents the five of them, something that’s irremovable and constantly reminding them with something important?

The feeling is mutual when Joongie said that his tattoos reflect his feelings at the different stages of his life. He said that he is fond of collecting pictures of his loved ones for memories that he can only have for himself. I can only think that it’s the same reason why he likes ink etched on his skin—for strong feelings he can’t utter out loud. So basically, it’s another form of his expression. And if, I said if only, I have, by chance, one night with Jae, I would gently kiss those tattoos one by one while he’s explaining the meaning of each. *landslide* *covered with rocks* (I know. I trust Jae that every tattoo in his body has its significance so if he’s experiencing another big wave rocking his boat right now and thinking about getting another tattoo, nothing can stop him. I can only pray that it wouldn’t be on his beautiful face.
