The Water is Wide

It has been a really wet spring here in Utah.  Matt and I walked down to the river walk near our house to check out the level of the Weber River.

This bench is normally WAY up on the bank of the river.  I would say the water is running high this year.

Happy 90th

This week we celebrated my Grandma Wilson's 90th birthday.  My cousin Ryan invited everyone to his house on Sunday afternoon to celebrate.  It would have been nice if the weather had cooperated better and let us play outside.  (the kids did play outside a little, but then they came back in with cold hands and ears).

Despite the chilly weather we were able to have a really good barbecue with all the fixins.  We had time to eat and talk, and then have cake and ice cream and eat and talk some more.

We love you Grandma!  Happy Birthday.

[Bracketed]

I know it is April now, but something fun happened back in March.  Some of you might remember filling out brackets to guess how the NCAA tournament would go.  Some of you guessed well, some of you not as good, but I am the only one that ended up with this baby.

No Hockey for Me

Friday we tried again to use our Pass of all Passes to go to a Grizzlies hockey game. The game started at 7:00, and since I don’t get off work until 5:00 it is tricky to get there early. We were a little extra delayed because Matt is working on putting together a computer for a buddy and was having some trouble with the wi-fi.

We finally got on the road and headed to West Valley not much after six. We got to the Maverick Center (E-Center) and decided we should just suck it up and pay for parking because we were too late to find a parking spot near by that wouldn’t cost $6. So we dug deep in the pockets and paid to put our car in a really far away parking spot. When we got in the door of the arena I was surprised to see a line from the ticket counters all the way back to the turnstiles. But we happily took our place in line and stood and waited and stood and waited. Matt’s Aunt and Uncle Amy and Greg showed up with their family and stood in line with us until we heard the announcement that there were no more seats available. Bummer.

So I was a bit peeved off at this point. I wasn’t happy that I had paid $6 to park and not go to a hockey game. I wasn’t happy that I paid $40 for each of our passes and now couldn’t even attend any of the events because the stupid greedy people selling them sold WAY too many. Yeah, I wasn’t happy.

We decided to try and make the best of it by walking across the street to the Hollywood Connection and maybe playing a game of mini golf or something. It was pretty crowded, and more expensive than I thought it should be, so instead of playing golf we got some tickets for the kids to ride a couple rides. They rode the carousel. It is always fun to see how happy kids are on a merry-go-round. Little Joe was just having a great time. Eli was less happy because he chose the tiger as his mount, and the tiger was the only animal on the entire ride that didn’t go up and down.

After the carousel we walked over to the Bumper cars. Here we had some ticketing trouble that took quite a while to clear up, but finally the boys got to ride the cars and they had a really good time. Jo was too small to ride the bumper cars, so he stayed out with us and ate gumdrops. He made sure that Matt got all the red ones once he found out that Matt liked the red ones the most.

And then we were done and Matt and I walked back to our expensive parking spot and drove home. The Grizzlies lost that night, I will admit that I am bitter enough that I was OK with that. I would have been mad if it had been the best game ever. I just hope that we will be able to squeeze in and use our passes at one of the other events this year. Otherwise the one Hockey game we went to cost me $80 and 3 hours standing in a cold line. Not cool.

Happy Birthday Bev

Last week was Matt’s Mom’s birthday. Her birthday fell on a Wednesday so we were not able to make it down to Sandy that day, but we were excited to go down for a party on Saturday to celebrate.

My original plan was to head down to Salt Lake early and pick up tickets to the Real game that were being offered on the Pass of all Passes. My plans were all messed up however when I woke up. Before I was even done with my morning run the game had sold out (and I pulled my hamstring – it was a bad morning). So we scrapped the idea of going to the game and instead planned to spend the whole day with Bev.

So we drove down to Sandy and hit the store on the way there. We were doing a potato bar for the party and we had to stop and pick stuff up ( I forgot a bunch of the stuff we had planned on bringing – so we had to buy even more.) But we had a good time playing with the niece and nephews and Matt’s cousins when they showed up.

I think the kids were a little disappointed in me because I selfishly allowed the battery of my phone to get really low so they couldn’t play games on it. Instead we had to come up with alternative ways to entertain ourselves. The game of choice was to hide a piece of paper in a plastic box and then have either me or Matt guess which box it was in. Somehow I just could never guess right.

We also had a good time playing the drums (empty Mt. Olympus water tanks). Cailey has really good rhythm actually. I was impressed.

Matt’s sister Becky brought us some really delicious cake and after singing Happy Birthday we only had t blow out the candles three or four more times to give all the kids a shot.

We had a lot of fun playing with the family. Happy Birthday Bev.
