Time Machine

  • Image

    version 1.3

    30 may 2022

The first version of melankorin.net still in my hard drive. There have been earlier versions than this one, but they have been lost to time. Time sure is a destructive force, isn't it?

I was way less skilled at all this web stuff back then. Simple design, iframe based, classic colour scheme, barely any content at all because I was focusing far too much on the layout to pay attention to what actually lays inside it. Humble beginnings. Cute.

    version 2

    18 jun 2022

1.0 with blackjack and hookers, pretty much. I remade the whole thing from scratch and this is what I ended up with? What a waste.

At least it isn't beige anymore. Fuck beige.

    3 aug 2022

Unfinished experiment, still using iframes, kinda wonky, kinda ugly, but it was the basis for the next layout, which turned out pretty well.

    25 aug 2022

An improvement on the previous experiment. Despite this layout being beneath my skill level now, I still have a soft spot for it—it captures a sort of retro cool with that colour palette, iframe and clunky side-navbar. It may be revamped in the future (preferably so not every single element is an Illustrator vector exported to png), but for now it is a fond memory.

    9 oct 2022

Unfinished (thankfully) experimental layout, and the first (or at least, earliest saved one) one using Jekyll. I tried making this one easy to customize later on by abusing Less mixins (and you'll see that coming into play in the next iteration).

"Blue Abomination" is what I'd call it in retrospect.

I'm quite glad I dropped this one, it looks quite tacky. The glitched text effect on the banner looks good, but it's too colourful and it just doesn't mesh well with the rest of the website. Rest in piss.

    version 3

    16 jan 2023

This one has been well-preserved in the Wayback Machine. It's an improvement upon the October layout, with the stylesheet finished, a wider colour palette and a... better? Banner. Actually, I'm not so sure about that—it went from an tacky eyesore to just plain boring. I think the problem is just the banner having to be contained in such a blocky way, restricting what I can do.

I used to believe the unfinished 06/08/2022 layout was actually published as 3.0, so this entry was originally for that. I've since rectified my mistake. That's crazy: I've gone through so many versions and revisions I forgot one of them existed!

    version 4.1

    5 jun 2023
    codename Grief

I consider 4.0 the first good version of melankorin.net.

This layout is named Grief, called this way due to personal happenings in my life and it's monochrome colour palette. Abandoned iframes in favour of Jekyll building the pages for me, banner, horizontal navigation, sidebar that varies based on the page, 1px black bordered sections, nearly everything in black and white. Retro, but also modern.

It took tens of thousands of lines of code to get me to a point where I liked my own work, but it was worth it.

version 5.0.8 1 jan 2026

Hey there! This is a tiny one. Phase one of implementing a brand new comment section script! You can see it in action in the guestbook and in my blog posts. Joined the Off-Platform Webring.

version 5.0.7 21 dec 2025

Ha! I no longer have (as much) free time, like I said before. Hi everyone.

Version 5.0.7 finally marks the complete restoration of all content that previously existed at melankorin.net! I thought the day would never come, but I did it. The History page (including the Time Machine) and the Web Museum are finally back! The Web Museum is being revamped, so not all entries are there yet, but the ones that are have expanded commentary.

And... a new banner! For the first time (and until the end of time) in melankorin.net history, I am using my own art for the banner! If you're asking who that is, that is my darling girl Haki.

Beyond that: new art, updated links and cliques, fixed the bug in the comment section (oops), removed text justification, new songs for the about page, minor adjustments, corrections and additions everywhere (the commit list is too damn long).

version 5.0.6 30 sep 2025

Hi! I'm alive, I think? Only time will tell if that will remain true.

The Museum is finally back, and now all of the main sections are back! For now, the Tamagotchi and the CD-ROM pages have been restored, with the remaining two soon to come. Fun new questionnaire in the About page. Tons of performance fixes and tiny touch-ups and other backstage work.

Stay tuned for more soon! (i gotta enjoy my free time while i still have it)

version 5.0.5 15 sep 2025

Nothing to see here, mostly: added back the OpenGraph tag, added an internal link in the library, and (cursed three letters go here) shenanigans.

version 5.0.4 14 sep 2025

Still busy. I feel like I'm gonna die. Working on my beloved website is the distraction I need right now.

For now, I'm still doing work restoring all of the old pages. The Resources section is finally back! The only section left is the Museum (the best for last!). Minor performance adjustments this time as well. Nothing new or big for now though, I'm busy trying not to be devoured.

version 5.0.3 25 aug 2025

Hey! Busy times over here at Kori's. Very minor update to keep my rhythm nice and consistent.

Small touch ups in the about page and elsewhere, updated neighbours, fixed (and pruned a few) dead links in the library, and more behind the scenes struggling with Eleventy. I promise, I am definitely cooking stuff beyond these small repair jobs.

version 5.0.2 6 aug 2025

Enough dreaming. Back to cold, cold reality it is for me...

The About section is back, and better than ever before! Do check it out. Beyond that, fancy scrollbars are back. More coming soon!

version 5.0.1 24 jul 2025

Readded the changelog RSS feed, added a new piece to the gallery, fixed the favicon, very minor fixes and additions to the home and links pages.

version 5.0 23 jul 2025

I think I can finally die.

Hi! It's been a while huh? Life (and development hell) happened, but I think I'm back for good this time. Welcome to version 5.0! Aptly named Graveyard Shift because that's what I often had to go through to get this done, I got sick of black and white so now we're teal. I like teal. Do you like teal?

What's new beyond that? An entirely new wrapper layout, new homepage and links page layout, CDwORLD page, new 88x31 button, a new blog post (finally), numerous tweaks and minor additions, and more, expect to see it in the coming months! You'll notice a few sections of the website are missing, that's because I'm still working on them... I wanted to get this out as soon as possible, so I had to prioritise some stuff for the time being. Stay tuned!

By the way, if you're reading this: thank you so much for being here still. Your presence means a lot to me.

version 4.3.2 24 nov 2024

NEW BANNER! This time, the art is by @shirahamakamome.

Other than that, this is a very minor update to keep my rhythm going while I am busy. A few more items in the web gallery and in the software button resources page and a bunch of other fixes too minor to be relevant to anyone but me. Enjoy!

version 4.3.1 8 oct 2024

Added more information to the gallery and the web museum. Reduced image sizes in the web museum for better performance. Remade 88x31 software buttons. Readded Open Graph tags.

version 4.3 22 sep 2024

HELLO! I am not dead!

I have felt unsatisfied with this website for a while now. I am planning on a complete reskin in the future (the eternally unattainable melankorin.net v5...), but for now this is a massive improvement on what I've already built. Most of the improvements have been made behind the scenes. But... what's new?

I've rebuilt the stylesheets for all pages, everything should look and work better now. A tag system for the blog. The guestbook is now it's own separate page. New artwork. New Tamagotchi hatchery page, please check it out! New additions to the library. The web museum is finally complete! Plus, so many other minor tweaks that I'd be insane to sit and list all of them.

Even though life has been quite turbulent lately, I hope to get to add new content here more frequently. I hope you enjoy it!

version 4.2.3 24 mar 2024

New website section: the museum! Other than that, the favourites section in my about page is back, more links, new masonry layout and lightbox for the gallery.

version 4.2.2 26 feb 2024

Brand new, easier to read link library, more neighbours, more artwork, a truckload of behind-the-scenes and minor changes everywhere.

version 4.2.1 27 dec 2023

New blog post, a few more buttons, more versions added to the Time Machine.

version 4.2 29 nov 2023

Trying to come back from a creative drought. New banner, new and massively improved blog layout, visual and behind-the-scenes adjustments, simplified about page, more links.

version 4.1.10 8 sep 2023

I really love the Time Machine, so I'm starting something cool: I'll be adding archived past versions of melankorin.net there, starting with 1.3! Plus, a fresh new blog post. More to come soon.

version 4.1.9 26 aug 2023

I am finally free! Optimization. New art, more links.

version 4.1.8 5 aug 2023

Behind the scenes polishing.

version 4.1.7 28 jul 2023

Adjustments to the comment system and a lot of other minor additions. Not much to see, frankly.

version 4.1.6 23 jul 2023

New blog post. Cool homepage marquee.

version 4.1.5 22 jul 2023

New comment sections throughout the website!

version 4.1.4 16 jul 2023

Stylish tooltips, homepage adjustments, the gallery finally looks decent, lots of new links, a factual error in the time machine has been corrected.

version 4.1.3 5 jul 2023

More buttons, more artwork, and a secret. You might find it spinning around somewhere, who knows?

version 4.1.2 2 jul 2023

Rebuilt CSS, various minor changes to a lot of stuff and I can't be bothered to recall all of them, 88 x 31 buttons, brand new changelog RSS feed.

version 4.1.1 19 jun 2023

New blog post, links section revamp, HISTORY TIME!

version 4.1 5 jun 2023

Big boy update! The resources page is back, the blog is now separated into individual pages bound by an index, advertisements in the home page, the about page now has tabs!

version 4.0.4 30 may 2023

I hope this is the last time I mess with the gallery, good lord. Shiny new 404 page. Woah, 404 on version 4.0.4!

Temporary banner, the art is by nyoro, check out their amazing work! My art will come back later.

version 4.0.3 28 may 2023

CSS reworking: the website now behaves properly on mobile, the grids are much neater, gallery and chatbox aren't fucked up anymore.

version 4.0.2 23 may 2023

Comment section instead of a Discord server. Gallery layout improved. Joined Retronaut webring. Added stuff to the links page.

version 4.0.1 17 may 2023

Minor adjustments to the layout and the banner, new favicon, new blog post, added contact information, hit counter.

version 4.0 16 may 2023

The struggle continues. Another overhaul to the layout, this time named "Grief" and it's appropriately black and white.

version 3.0 16 jan 2023

More than six months in the making. Pain. Blood. Sweat. Tears. Okay, not really, just a new beginning.

version 2.2 9 jul 2022

Say hello to the materials page!

version 2.1 19 jun 2022

Re-added the links sections, made colours more consistent, added some pixel graphics from Piece 2003.

version 2.0 18 jun 2022

Remade the whole thing again...

version 1.5 16 jun 2022

Added all future links to navigation, fixed a link, minor stuff.

version 1.4 4 jun 2022

Remade the website AGAIN, so it looks better. I hope it's the last time this time.

version 1.3 30 may 2022

Added the links section. It's still in it's very infancy, not a lot of stuff, but I'm gonna add stuff as I go.

version 1.2 25 may 2022

Remade the folder structure for the website. Fixed the fonts (yes, the font was wrong this whole time).

version 1.1 23 may 2022

Finished the homepage (for now, lol) and added this changelog you're reading right now. Tweaks on the appearance of the website. Added the media section.
