Postcards From the Edge

Random shots of some summertime road trips with a Picassa 1960's format
(because this blog is supposed to be midcentury related).

Middle fork of the Stanislaus River.
I didn't notice the interesting cloud formation until I looked at the photograph.
I think sometimes that a camera is a hindrance.
I should quit looking through the lens and start looking at what's in front of me.

It was so hot that day that I wanted to swing through the trees
and make my way down to the water.
Image

Ebbet's Pass on our way to Reno.
This was truly a postcard from the edge.
It gave me the heebie jeebies.
I'm a bit of a nervous passenger.
Image

This wide open road is much more comfortable.
Image

Thunder heads!
No thunder, just the heads.
Image

I'm obsessed with clouds.
Image

Lots of wide open space on the Nevada side of the pass.
Image

This little jewel of a cabin is on Mosquito Lake at the top of Ebbet's Pass.
I wanted to swim across the tiny lake and break in.
I could live here. Not in the winter though. Too much snow.
Image

I swiped this photo from my son's Facebook page.
Don't tell him.
This is from his great Alaskan Adventure.
He and his sister hiked to the ice caves in Juneau.
I don't know why his hair looks blonde.
I don't know who the dog belongs to either.
Image

We told them, warned them, not to go inside....too dangerous!!
They went in anyway.
They survived.

garden guards

Our old fire tools are now our garden guards.
Don't they look intimidating?
Image

An old room divider  supports the peas.
Image

I don't know if this is squash or pumpkin.
We'll find out sooner or later.
Image

The mammoth sunflowers are really taking off.
Blackberries are growing behind them.
Image

Image

The first harvest, spicy radishes.
Image

Cauliflower followed.
Image

We're growing lots of herbs too.
Image

Image

What cute little tomatoes.
Image

Heirloom tomatoes are starting to blossom.
Image

A happy, musical frog entertains the plants.
Image

The carrots are growing like weeds.
Image

The old porch swing got another facelift.
Birdhouse gourds are planted around the gazebo and
will hopefully grow up the sides.
Image

That's all for now.

Ray Eames Exhibit

On a recent trip to our state capitol my husband spotted this....
Image

Good eye mister!
Image

We spent a beautiful Sunday afternoon taking in all the eye candy.
Image

This greeted us as we entered the museum.
Image

Image

Miniature Eames house.
Image

Miniature furniture to go with it!
Image

Image

The rest is adult size.
Image

I wanted this big guy.
The gift shop was full of them but wayyy out of our price range.

She was a tiny lady.
Image

This was another exhibit we enjoyed.
Image

I spotted a few suitcases in this display that looked very familiar.
I'm dating myself.
Who cares? I'll be sixty this Saturday...
I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Projects

Guess who has a new toy?
Image

He spent the weekend turning soil in the back forty.
He's like the energizer bunny!
Image

We're not sure what to plant.
We thought about a community pumpkin patch.
Tomatoes are too temperamental so we'll
save those for the raised beds.
I'd like to try growing some gourds.
Image

My sunflowers are coming up.
I like to sit and look at them.
Image

Sometimes I think I can see them growing.
I'm a very impatient gardener.
Image

I think these are radishes.
Image

Our gazebo collapsed in the last storm.
The canvas top filled with snow and split wide open.
Image

We decided to move it to the backyard
and give it a paint job.
Image

The swing needed a facelift too.
I'm not so fond of hunter green anymore.
At one time, everything got hit with a can
of hunter green spray paint.
Image

I've gone to the dark side now.
Everything is black.
The cover on the swing has got to go.
That's on the to do list.
Image

We are going to cover the top of the gazebo with chicken wire
and grow vines over the top.
Image

Maybe someday it will look like this.
I think it would look nice with little twinkie lights.
Image

Cote Sud Magazine

While the mister planted some carrots....
Image

This guy stomped around outside the fence.
He's not happy about losing access to the plants.
They were eating everything in sight.
Image

Big show-offs.
Image

They thought if they looked really pretty they
might regain access.
Wrong! This is a no turkey zone.
Image

We also replaced the front door and light fixture.
We plan to "fog" the door for privacy.
I hung a scarf in the window temporarily.
The paint is new too.
Image

And that's that...
