Hogeye

So after going back through my old posts I noticed that I pretty much dropped off the face of the earth and never finished my Hogeye training posts. I did continue to train and I DID run the relay! It was hot that day (which I so wasn't used to) and I screwed myself by drinking Gatorade instead of water (I knew better - Gatorade makes me thirstier), but I did finish and not with a terrible time either. And I even walked a lot of it.

So there you have it :) An official closing post on the Hogeye training - better 7 months late than never, right?

Portland

Wow, it's been a really long time since I last posted here. I'm going to try to be a little better at posting here! We'll see how that goes!

I went to Portland, OR in September for the Fall Leadership conference for Junior League. It is fun to hang out with league members from other leagues to find out how they do things in their league. It's also fun to hang out with the ladies from other AR leagues too. We all went to dinner one night at a wonderful restaurant called Park Kitchen. It was so good! I failed to take pictures or write down what I had exactly, but I know I had Cod Fritters and a really good soup - just can't remember what the soup was! Then a corn cake with goat cheese ice cream. It was all very good.

We kept it lower key the next night and went to Henry's 12th Street Tavern. It too was so good. I had a cup of beer cheese soup and a mushroom pizza. I did take a picture of the pizza. Then made our way to Voodoo Donuts. They are famous for their unique donuts. It's a little hole in the wall where you have to stand in line forever to place your order, but it was so worth it! We stood in line for 30 minutes on a Saturday night around 9pm.

Of course in between all of the great food, there were a lot of wonderful training sessions too. I learned a lot and had a great time!

Stay tuned for the next trip - New Orleans :) I doubt that one will be any fun at all ;)

Five miles!

After missing two runs (one being my long run), I got back on track. Ran 5 miles Sunday and felt great!

I finally calibrated my Nike+ an discovered just how slow I really am. Really really slow. But I'm far more concerned about surviving the 6+ miles I will be running in the relay than getting there faster. So I'll just be slow for now. I'm just surprised I've actually made it this far without quitting! I've come very close to it, but I've hung in there.

Run 2/23

Bad run today. And it was only about 3.5 miles...that should be easy! I ran outside and got cramps in my feet, my face was so frozen I could hardly stand it (at first anyway - that got much better), and I kept getting terrible side stitches. And I have learned that my Nike+ is not really very accurate. After running with it on a treadmill and the Mud Creek trail (where distances are marked), I know that it is nearly half a mile off. I did not calibrate it before using it so I guess I'll do that and see what happens. Otherwise I'll just start adding half a mile to it each time I run. That sucks too, because it was making me feel so good about my runs! However, I'm just as slow as I thought I was...ha! I really don't care that much about time though so I need to stop getting so hung up on it.

I will say that after today I'm worried I'll never make it to 6+ miles...I know I can, but it seems so impossible after today's run!

And this has sort of become my place to vent about my training...so bear with me, those 3 of you who read this ;)

Official announcement

I'm gonna run a Hogeye Marathon relay. That's it. I announced it to the world. Ok so there are only a few people who read this (and considering how little I post there may be none of you left!), but it still makes it real to me if I feel like others know about it and will hold me to it!

I've been running some on a treadmill, but never outside. Today was the day that I needed to do my "long" run (don't really think you can consider 4 miles long, but anyway) and I took to the street to do it! It was 33 degrees and I was so dreading it!

But ya know what? It wasn't so bad. I actually forgot about the cold and it was way better than running in heat. And I felt great other than some pretty nagging foot cramps. Plan to discuss this with the pros at Fleet Feet and see what they say. My shoes are pretty new and the shoes they told me I needed to buy. So we'll see.

According to my Nike+, I ran 4.15 miles in 39:51. Really? How can that be? I never run that fast. I'm not convinced it's accurate but I'm still pretty proud of myself! And so the training officially begins...

Denver trip

Last week I got to go to Denver for a leadership conference for Junior League. I had a great time and learned a lot. I'm sure most of you know that I am the president elect elect of the league-which means lots of conferences in my future! I am a nerd and love them though so I'm not complaining. They are sure to take me to places I've never been. This made my third trip to Denver, but it has always been a quick trip-twice just a pass through on our way to a ski trip and now the conference. Maybe one day I'll actually see some of the city!

I did take a couple of pics from the airplane on my trip home. And one from my hotel window. You can't really see the mountains in these phone pictures, but still pretty.

Cool website

So I don't really bake very often because I'm not so great at it and I get really frustrated, however, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to read the Bakerella blog. Have you seen it? She makes the cutest things and it makes me so jealous - of her baking ability and the fact that she has time to do this!

I have to admit though, it took me a long time to actually add the link to my blog. And then even longer to actually mention it specifically. Why? Because I was hoping that I would one day bring the cutest little cake pops to a potluck/tailgate/whatever and everyone would rave about them. But it finally occurred to me that that will never happen. At least not anytime soon. And even if I did try to make them, they'd very likely turn out crappy and I would eat them all myself and never tell anyone.

You all probably read Bakerella religiously anyway (I know you do Tina!) and I'm not sharing anything with you that you don't already know! But for those of you who don't, you should definitely check it out. It's awesome!
