Before I start this story, I do have to brag on my husband a bit. He was recently selected as the Texas Recreation and Parks 2011 Young Professional of the Year. This is a great honor and I am so proud of his hard work and accomplishments. With that being said, he is a passionate person when it comes to greenspace, kids in nature, and dipping our kids in it on a regular basis. We are constantly checking out new park areas and exploring new spaces.
Shane got me a gift certificate to a swanky boutique in a very swanky shopping area. He dropped me off and was going to take the kids to a "water feature" (his words), that was part of the area. I had my fingers crossed that they were going to behave themselves, but I should have known better. We are related to the Clampetts, after all. I shopped and enjoyed myself immensely. I finished, came outside, and was surprised to find all of them in the car along with a SMELL! Immediately, my suspicions were on full alert.
Shane, of course, was laughing. They found this beautiful lake at the back of the shopping area. It was surrounded by rocks and huge rose bushes and trees. It was really very pretty. It looked like something straight out of a Disney princess movie. Landry took one look at that lake, yanked off her shoes and socks, and jumped in with all of her clothes on screaming, "Nemo, Nemo! Where are you, Nemo?!" After she was completely doused, she crawled out of the water shaking her head and saying, "Nemo is gone...I no find him..." Of course the other kids were not about to let her get wet without them, so they "crossed the rocks" and of course "fell in." They all reeked of fishy lake water and were soaking wet. So much for my idea of strolling around with my quiet, well-behaved family...Wait, I must be thinking of my imaginary family. Shane, of course, was thrilled. Our kids enjoyed an urban greenspace. According to him, kids ripping off their clothes and jumping in is exactly what the developers had in mind! Ha!
