Spelling

My new goal is to post the spelling lists. Remember, on the colored sort lists students don't need to know how to spell every word. They should learn the pattern and be able to create new words. My suggested study pattern is as follows:
Monday: Cut out and sort words. Write sight words and sentence.
Tuesday: Speed sort 3 times. Write sight words and sentence.
Wednesday: Sort and write words. Write sight words and sentence.
Thursday: Say, Lay, Glue, Say; in other words, sort, glue words in notebook and say again. Write sight words and sentence.

Essay Contest

The “Change My World Essay” Contest 2009 is now in full swing! All Students Kindergarten through Senior Year who attend school in the State of Utah are eligible to enter. This year we have many great awards donated by our sponsors to give to students with winning essays including family trips to Disneyland California, College Scholarships for High School Students, week long summer camp scholarships, and gift certificates to Dicks Sporting Goods. The greatest part for your schools is that all students who win a FIRST PLACE category will also win $2,500 for their schools or educational organization in which they attend. This is a great way for your school to make money without holding a fundraiser.

Log on to www.changemyworldessay.com for all information. You can go to the “info for schools” link and print out flyers at the bottom of the page to distribute to your students. Students may enter on-line or by mail. Please let all students know about this great opportunity. We have some great awards that have been donated and they all need to go somewhere! This is sponsored by PTA

Attendance & Tardiness

Image

Attendance and tardiness is a real problem in our class. Just another reminder: the first bell rings at 8:55. The second rings at 9:00. After the second bell, a student is marked tardy. On Monday we start PE at 9:05. Tuesday through Thursday we start spelling groups at 9:10. On Friday we take the spelling test at 9:05. As you can see, in our classroom instruction starts as soon as the bell rings. It is disruptive for students to come in late. However, I would rather a student be late than not be there at all. Occasional tardiness is understandable, but chronic is not. Thanks for your attention in this matter.
