Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month

Image

Last week I was invited to the opening ceremony of Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month at City Hall in Los Angeles. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa made a speech in front of the members of the Council. The Mayor acknowledged 3 individuals for 3 special awards. Spirit of Los Angeles went to Kyung Won Lee, Dreams of Los Angeles went to Jyoti Nanda and Hope of Los Angeles went to Michelle Kwan.

Tahitian dancers. No. I did not have a chance to make friends with them. You can't see it that well from my picture but once these girls hit the stage, all the men whipped out their cameras. Haha. Okay, I did too.

Well, you can see more photographs of this event at the Mural Conservancy Facebook page and learn about the events that are occurring during Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month. Who knew this lands on the month of May?

One Month Ago

Image
It was like a dream.

Image
Where you fall from the sky.
Image
You go through a thousand of them.
Image
Although, this one is quite different.

Image
Old places from your childhood never vanish.
Image
And transition from one place to the next with directional light.
Image
You can see without glasses.

Image
So you inspect everything from this world.
Image
Knowing full well that it could all wash away swiftly.

Image
Make use of your time here.

Image
This evening was the best meal from my trip. A simple NY steak with salt, pepper, love and sprinkled laughter.
Image
Sometimes you find yourself on an uncharted path.
Image
Until you realize that you have been there before.

Image
Because the longer you are there the more you remember. Hi Grandma!

Image
Old friends reunite here.

Image
Some of them are vaguely familiar.
Image
While others you will never forget.
Image
So giggle...
Image
amongst your catch and...
Image
play for all it's worth.
Image
Because you live in this place.
Image
Run your hand against the wall to make sure it's real.
Image
For when the time comes, the light returns to lift you away.
Image
To deliver you with hope that if you remember correctly it can be done all over again.

Image
Image
Yes, it is that time of the year again. The Post-it show at Giant Robot is coming. In fact, it's going to open this week on December 10, 2011 and I am going to miss all the madness. For those of you who have never attended this show, you can read the details here. Otherwise, as the locals know, go early and survey the available artwork, purchase the artwork of your choosing, take it home immediately, and enjoy. Oh, and I drew on two 3 tiled Post-Its to create these pieces above. Happy Post-It shopping!

"Post-It Show 7"
Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 6:30PM - 10PM
2062 Sawtelle Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90025
