January was…
Quite healthy, goofy and productive.
Completed my Whole30, and am feeling great about it! Lots of learning to cook and eating delicious, wholesome meals. Now I want my cookie, Red Mango and Cafe Rio salad. On occasion, of course. To read up on my experience, visit my health blog, Kel Lives Well.
Lots of rehearsal and quick learning of the alto part. New experience being double cast. Two other auditions for Les Miserables (no word on ensemble yet–still a small chance!) and Secret Garden (no-go since I’m currently in Joseph at that theatre). New iPhone and Macbook Pro covers from Gelaskins.

A venture into online dating. A sneak attack kiss (jackass!). A handful of coffee dates. Giving my phone number to cute servers. A zumbathon for a good cause. A fun night out at the Leonardo with my Amazeballs Trio. Also one of the Trio’s birthdays, compete with mustaches!

Must protect the ‘staches! And notice the color candles? :)
Super productive at work, but still having some homework a couple nights. Finished the Life In Utah magazine, my six-month work baby, and sent it to print (YAY!). Business cards finally came in.
Shows Seen: what I’d like to call the BYU’s Young Ambassadors “happy, happy” show, Gangster Squad, and Les Miserables again.
Books Read: Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult, hush hush & crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick… loved all three!
New Obsessions: Beans & Brews chai, sweet potatoes with coconut oil, strawberry balsamic, almond butter, my Sleep Cycle app, and my Pikachu hat that keeps my head warm (see below).

Combining the two months this time. I want to get this done before the New Year. Things got crazy so here we go!
November was… a struggle but a good opportunity to assess what I really want to do.
December was… the most ideal holiday month ever.
Passing of my brilliant step-sister Joana. Hours making a memorial video. Learning a new song for said memorial, which was lovely. Hitting the harsh realization that she’s not around anymore.
National Novel Writing Month commitment and completion. NaNoWriMoose, aka: the awesome SLC group of people doing NaNoWriMo with me, and my new friends. Free books from the SLC City Library. New glasses.
Audition for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Finding out how to improve auditions from the director. Then auditioned for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Centerpoint… and got cast! More composing of music! Release of my single on music distribution websites!
Introduced to new TV shows like Dead Like Me and Eli Stone. The mid-season finale for all my favorite shows. Discovery of Spotify. Niece Night. Dark Knight marathon. Cornholio interruptions. Prepping of my body for the Whole30.
Busy, busy time at work: magazine, policy guide, Employer’s Toolbox and more!
Coming out ahead in gambling. And the first Vegas night that included everything that should happen on a night in Vegas. Super fun but definitely not looking to do it all again any time soon. ;)
Holiday Stuff:
Thanksgiving in Vegas with my dad. Zoo Lights! Grand America displays with my baby niece. Wandering downtown in the snow, meeting new people, making new friends, shopping and the Jingle Bus. Christmas Angel. Cheeseball Party. Christmas wrapping with Christmas movies. Lots of chocolate oranges. Silver Bell Celebration. White Christmas up in Park City. Karaoke Secret Santa. Low key New Year with my dad, step-mom and dogs.
New Movies Seen: Breaking Dawn Pt. 2 (pretty good!), 21st Jump Street, Project X, Beer Tales, the original Miracle on 34th Street, Like Crazy (love completely) and Les Miserables.
Shows Seen: The Christmas Carol at Pioneer, The Christmas Carol at Hale Centre Theatre, and the Anberlin concert in SLC.
New Obsessions: I Will Prevail. Spotify. Dirty Chai. Coffee Bean (curse them for not being in Utah).

Can you believe 2012 is almost over? I know for sure that I can barely believe it. Each year passes and I feel like more and more happens each time a New Year comes around.
Memo to Father Time: SLOW DOWN! A girl needs a chance to figure out what’s going on before she can go forward!

For me, 2012 turned out to be the year of picking passions, finding what those passions truly are and getting out of my shell to go after them. Inspired by one of my blog crushes, here is my “Eff Yeah!” list for 2012 in a reflection of what’s happened:
I started the year with four part-time jobs: Production/Social Media Intern at PCTV, Production Assistant at ABC 4 News, Communications Intern at the Salt Lake Chamber and I held down my monthly newsletter gig at Sinclair Oil Corporation. It’s okay my romantic life was in complete shambles because I had all of these to keep me completely occupied and distracted for nearly 70 hours a week in five days. And then spending every available moment with friends. And I effing owned all of my part-time jobs–to the point where PCTV and ABC 4 were both sad to lose me. One to the end of the internship, the other because I felt restricted in following my performing passions.
Performing totally trumps TV aspirations. They came first and I love it more, just saying. There are other ways I can do what I love without working in the news biz.
So I started auditioning at Hale Centre Theatre for every single show after I quit at the news station. It’s my “big fish” theatre. I will perform there one day. My time just hasn’t come yet.
In July, I was promoted to Communications Coordinator at the Chamber, and I’m still thrilled about it. My job is so much fun! It’s all writing, editing, research, social media, building websites and emails, and–get this–a magazine. Cool, right? Plus, it’s all deadlines and we all know how much I heart those. I work with some incredible people, and that never hurts either. It’s just a good gig all around.
Thanks to that promotion, and the kick-in-the-pants motivation that participating in VEDA (Vlog Every Day in August) gave me, I knuckled down in finding my own place. As luck would have it, I managed to rent the second master suite in a gorgeous town home from a super chill girl for six months (in my third currently). Moving out of my parents house is most definitely an “eff yeah” moment! Now I’m looking forward to having my own place in 2013!
As far as virtual life goes, I’m nearly done with my 365 days over at Something Write (will wrap up just after the New Year, but will likely continue to post something on there every day–I like it), I completed VEDA in August, and finished over 51,000 words of my dragon novel for NaNoWriMo. I’m a winner! :)
And then music? It’s gone better than getting into a show… I’ve been working more on the music aspect rather than lyrics, so I’ve laid down or composed more music for a handful of songs in the works. Just a couple of weeks ago, my single “He’s Not There” was released on practically all of the music distribution sites you can think of, like iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon MP3, Spotify, etc. It’s pretty rad. Go have a listen! :D

Along the lines of that, I also started a new “performing” website for myself. It’s going to be one of a couple that I will go into more detail on in my next post. ;)
To cap off several auditions at Hale, I finally decided to start auditioning for other theaters back in October. Figured it would be good experience and odds weren’t bad that I could get cast in other theaters (breaking into Hale is a bee-yotch even when you know someone in management)–because hey! I’m pretty talented and I know it (cue LMFAO dance). And now I’ve been cast in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Centerpoint Legacy Theatre, to show in March! Auditions can pay off if you stick with it and keep trying!
Even though things got rough when my step-sister passed away last month, that encouraged me to do everything I want to do as soon as I can do it, and also to give and share as much as possible… because you really never know when your time will be up. It was hard on Christmas Day when I realized I wouldn’t hear her voice again. Though we did have our differences, she was an incredible, intelligent and very caring woman.
Other “Eff Yeah!” moments:
- Having the most awesome friends a girl could ask for. The Amazeballs Trio–any moment with them qualifies as an “Eff Yeah!” moment.
- Reaching 500 subscribers on YouTube.
- Nabbing the Booty Shaking title at the Flamingo Pool in Las Vegas over BiSC.
- Participating in The Middle Finger Project‘s Copywriting Workshop over the summer and learned a ton.
- Watching all three seasons of Vampire Diaries in less than one month. Yes, that is so an accomplishment.
- Surviving a potential bomb situation.
- Getting over my unicorn.
- Conquering the Adventure Rope Courses at the Utah Olympic Park.
- Our CEO liking the speech script I wrote, and also immediately signing off on my text for our holiday card–aka: rocking my job. Booyah!
- Learning to cook!
- Managing to leave an imprint of my sweaty boobs on my friend’s TV. It was epic.
- Trying new restaurants, foods and flavors and enjoying it. For someone who used to only eat ramen and mac & cheese as a kid, this has been quite the endeavor.
- Learning how to properly uncork a wine bottle.
- Reading over 20 books this entire year.
And I kind of feel like I’m a master now. Can I have a badge?
Up next: I’m mapping out my goals for 2013. And I have plenty! You should join me for some. ;)
Who’s ready for an amazing 2013? And what was your favorite thing about 2012?

Yeah, I know I’m super behind on this. In my defense, I’m ahead in my NaNoWriMo word count! Yay! That’s why I took 20 minutes to finish this up today…

What is your most memorable moment from August?
July was…
Very spectator-like. Lots of watching things.
Signed up for #VEDA 2012 — check out my videos throughout August on TheMikaelShort on YouTube.
Graduated from chiropractor visits–back all better. Last minute 4th of July plans where I talked Pokemon with a cute guy within the first 5 minutes (win!). Short trip to St. George for my cousin’s baptism… then onto Vegas to see my dad for his birthday! Olive Garden date with Vegas buddy where we discussed our amazingly awesome imaginations. Cavity-free teeth! Many nights where I treated myself. Rewatched season one of Once Upon a Time. Monster cookies. The discovery of FYE. Tried Mini’s Cupcakes–yum! Bubby night with Brock, my bestie.

Talking with A&R Select to get some music licensing and perhaps radio play going. Planning and prepping to record an EP. More sushi than usual. Full clean outs of my closet and bathroom. Finished the first season of Vampire Diaries. Blog swap with Tay! Making new friends with my fellow TMF Copywriting classmates. Enjoying that class so much! Calling out a scammer on his game. Random Apple consultant memories of my tattooed eyeliner. Safety in crystals. Lots of lattes. Best friend in town! Promotion and a raise! (so apparently a lot of squeals, both the silent and very audible kind… naturally)
Lots of Pole Fitness including JW Pole Fitness park style and endurance training (aka: having my ass handed to me). Miami-style Zumbathon. Yogi in training. Constant soreness from all the working out.
Auditioned for Oliver at Hale–no callback, but I totally killed the audition. A night of epic fails. Anxiety over yes’s and no’s. Scary YouTube moment leading to the creation of a new account. Too much pursuing. Deceiving chocolate chip cookies with bacon inside–gross! Selling my old trusty Macbook if anyone is interested. Developing a love-hate relationship with fairytales. Creepy unexplained scratches on my leg (haunted much?).
Shows I went to: Fiddler on the Roof with my soul sister. Seeing Sound of Music solo. Eclipse concert with Brock. Mother-daughter date at the Broadway Rocks! concert at Deer Valley.
New Movies Seen: The Amazing Spiderman. Ted… twice in two days. Insidious. The Dark Knight Rises midnight premiere complete with Batman eye tattoos.
Books Finished: Evergreen by Brenda Pandos, Afterlife by Megg Jensen, Someone Else’s Fairytale by E.M. Tippetts, Chosen by Sarah Swan.
New Obsessions: Andrew Garfield. The Vampire Diaries & Stefan (I’m in love with that man!). My new iPod/iPad alarm clock dock. Plumb. Organic chocolate. Google Chrome (it reminds me to attach things since I forget). Bakery Story. Starbucks Refreshers.

What is your most memorable moment from July?
Filed under: A Little Me, Blips, Family, Fitness, Friends, RaNdOm, Remembering, Vegas!
So I totally neglected on writing stuff down for June. This will be interesting to see how much I actually remember (or scramble from my Twitter/Facebook feed).
June was …
Lots of fun!
Weekend in California for my cousin’s wedding. Many twisted Shirley Temples. Cloudy beach day complete with a pod of dolphins. New parasol from the bride and groom. Anglophile moments in the Ayres Hotel gift shop. Red Mango dates. Rolling down the hills of Sugar House Park with my best friend from Wyoming.
The weekend of intense auditions and call backs with Brock for Aida and 9 to 5. Emotional torment waiting for cast lists. Getting cast in Aida, but turning it down for my own sanity (and gas money). High anticipation and excitement for the copywriting workshop with Ash from The Middle Finger Project (the first class was amazing!). Going full-time at the Salt Lake Chamber. Cool live-tweeting for the Chamber events. Fun at the Salt Lake Chamber Classic Golf Tournament, aka: driving a golf car for the first time. Meeting golf legend, Billy Casper.
Operation: Fit & Fierce. Getting back into my Zumba & Pole Fitness routine. Adding yoga back into the mix. Free time for me. Reunion with BiSC-uits Sara & Ameena. Trying German food for the first time. A day at the pool at the Grand America. Disco Murder Mystery night with old friends! Lots of days spent with my adorable niece. Gambling with my dad, step-mom and brother in Vegas for Father’s Day weekend (Bro and Step-mom won 82 bucks and didn’t realize it). Awesome Skype chats with good friends. Happy meals with Pokemon toys.
A night of amazing music with Scott Alan and some of the most talented musicians in the Salt Lake valley–I cried many times. Got the brown back in my hair.
Last two weeks at ABC 4–I shall miss them all! Spiders in my bedroom. Mornings at the chiropractor + massages = a healed lower spine. Deceptive nights. A week of sinusitus. New perspective on crappy situations.
One of my favorite covers this year: Don’t Forget Me from Smash.
New Obsessions: Thor, or Chris Hemsworth. Notes from the Universe. Hazelnut Fazer chocolates. Kelly Clarkson’s new CD. Corey, my new exercise ball.
New Movies Seen: The Cabin in the Woods, Thor, The Avengers, That’s My Boy.
Books I Finished: Accidental Billionaires – The Founding of Facebook (after several months finally). Hollowland by Amanda Hocking (so riveting I couldn’t put it down!). Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult (finished it in one day… so good!). Actually finished all three within the span of 3 days. No joke.
Top 5 Posts from Something Write: The Very Last, bittersweet farewell, Not Alone, Tugging and Pulling and pour me another.
Honorable mention: not worthy.

What is your most memorable moment from June?

May… Wow. Just wow. I feel like so much has happened this month that it’s hard to know where to begin.
May was …
The start of things changing.
All the BiSC-ness = ALL THE HAPPY FEELINGS!
The anniversary of my college graduation. Always dancing! Like a Cinco de Drinco Zumba master class and a spontaneous class when another was cancelled and I wasn’t aware. Swings and parks. Brock time. A comfy place. The need to perform. Nice Mother’s day at my aunt’s house. The return of our Finnish hockey player! More time with my darling niece. Seeing my dad and puppies. Dressing up my puppies.
Dreams returned. Random OCD moment of organizing video games and fixing our N64. Blind date set up my my grandmother (of all people… really?). Bees game. More butterflies over lunch. Becoming certifiably social media addicted again (because of BiSC obviously!). New aviators. A good interview. The Avengers. Excitement over copywriting workshop with The Middle Finger Project. Solar eclipse and Super moon!
Near quarter-life crisis. My inability to eat peanut butter cups and play Times Up at the same time. Too many season finales that made me cry. Broken sunglasses. Strange increase in attention that has me scratching my head. Mother’s Day with my mom out of town. Funky sunburns. Weekend with darling yet challenging boys who move soon (sad day…). Lower spine issues. Two-weeks notice.
New cover: Hit Me With Your Best Shot for my mom for Mother’s Day.

New Obsessions: Les Miserables trailer. Carrie Manolakos. Hollie Cavanaugh. Learning how to self-publish and strongly considering it… that is, once I finish a story. Draw Something. Blue Lemon. Drinks mentioned by Bill Engvall, aka: Mai Tai & Bahama Mama. Sabrina, my new Macbook Pro.

What is your most memorable moment from May?

For some reason, it was harder to document things this month. It could be that I feel like I do hardly more than work the weeks away, so by the time the weekend hits I don’t mind spending the day wrapped up in bed after hitting the gym, and catching up on my TV shows. Girl needs some downtime, yo. Speaking of… gotta go catch up on Smash. Laters!
April was …
New things and much too fast.
Amazing dinner at Fleming’s because I had a gift card. Trying crab, halibut and cat fish and actually liking them! End of Park City TV internship. Starting back up on WW. Ronald McDonald House Charity Benefit event. Cutie at Starbucks. Zorro at Hale … twice. The beginning of a podcast. Meeting Kurt Bestor! Fun game nights, nice dates and a couple good lazy days too.
Laughing at Gabriel Iglesias and other comedians in Vegas for my brother’s birthday celebration–third row baby! Watching the Masters & relaxing with my dad. New Skyy vodka arrived — delish! Day at the pool with a Miami Vice. Opportunity going out to do an ABC 4 interview. Lots of small friend meet-ups. More City Creek.
Non-stop two weeks. Cold sore. Forgetting dreams. Potential over-worked-ness. Accidentally double booking friends. Discovering my unicorn. Walking in on two women in the bathroom twice in one day. Too much politics for this girl, but learning a lot in the process. Credit card issues. Indecent proposals over text. Stuck sunroof. Having a battle with my passions.
Zumba on shuffle, and Zumba with Jason Thompson. He’s awesome. :)

New addictions: 50 Shades Trilogy. Drool… hottest book series ever (far from being well-written though *shivers*). ABC’s Revenge — aka: all first 16 episodes in three days. Avril Lavigne’s new album. Liking American Idol again too. Return of Glee, Greys Anatomy and Private Practice.

Time for some March reflection. ;)
March was…
Knowing.
The truth finally coming out. Being excited. Just friends. Getting my guitar strings replaced. Proof that you can totally find someone online. Learning more about being a producer. Saying goodbye to one of my best friends who’s just left on an LDS mission. Visiting my grandparents. Lots of Zumba. Audition and callback for Sound of Music at Hale Center Theatre (waiting on word if I got cast). Midnight premieres with amaze-ball friends. Awesome St. Paddy’s Day / Mom’s birthday bash!
The ribbon cutting ceremony for City Creek Center in Salt Lake–best day ever. Meeting a Capella group, Eclipse. Starting music review blog musiCues (giveaway going on right now!). Fun photo shoot with fabulous friends. The blending of my friends. Flirting around again. An awesome and needed “me” Sunday (cleaning my room, playing video games, watching movies). An attempt at doing a barre class (um… ouch). Teaching myself guitar basics.#MarchPhotoADay on Instagram.
Incorrect sources. Sunburn. Unrelenting exhaustion when the end of the week comes. Malfunctioning iPhone and iPad alarm clock apps. No hard feelings over expiration dates. Lack of sleep. Flat tire.
Contemplating… taking guitar lessons with the amazing Phinney, where’s the best place for me to be, auditioning for performing arts schools or more local shows.
Oops! All Berries. Pops. Got my own ZipFizz now! Cadbury mini-eggs. Only being able to trust Wendy’s burgers now because of the pink slime controversy.
Books read: Sleepers by Megg Jensen and in the midst of The Woodcutter right now. And Glamour Mag while I wait for the shower to heat up. I don’t really have time to read much anymore. :(
Movies seen: The Vow. The Hunger Games midnight premiere! Anchorman.
Top Something Write pieces: The Neverending Cycle, For Beans, vorpal blade, The Favorite (Pt 1) and the People Factor.
