We had a very nice Easter in Stanberry. The kids got to stay with Grandma and Grandpa for the weekend and Jason and I met them there on Sunday. We had lunch with Great Grandma Boyer at the nursing home after church. The kids then got to go on an Easter Egg hunt. The kids loved their weekend with their grandparents and it was a great day! Moo Grandpa
Will has a new name for Grandpa Nickell….Moo Grandpa! I think it started sometime after our last visit to Stanberry. He got to ride the Ranger that day to go see the cows and Grandpa Nickell likes to give him updates on the new calves being born, including sending pictures that we show him on the computer.
So, he has learned pretty quickly to associate Grandpa with cows. He also is talking a lot but there are some words he won’t say. One of them is ‘cow’…he insists on saying MOO whenever referring to a cow. So it just makes sense that the Grandpa that is associated with cows would be “moo-ampa” [I really need to get a video of him saying it!]
I think Grandpa is honored to have his new name!
SeaShells
Brooke loved collecting seashells on the beach in Florida. We decided to make a jar for them when we got home. You can see the shark teeth fossils in the top left corner of the first picture.
Happy 5th Birthday, Brooke!!!
Happy Birthday to our sweet, smart, loveable, caring little (big) girl! Each one of these birthdays seems like it was just yesterday. Tonight when I was putting Brooke to bed and said “goodnight baby girl,” she looked at me and said, “I’m really NOT a baby anymore.” (in a slightly sarcastic tone).
Florida, Day 4
On our last full day, we went to Casperson Beach. This beach is known for an abundance of sea shells and shark teeth. The shark teeth are actually fossils of shark teeth that have washed up to this beach. Venice, Fl is actually known as the shark tooth capitol of the world! We were able to find a few of these ourselves. Brooke loved collecting sea shells on this beach and loved the waves as well (which were the strongest of all the days). Will sat for hours with his bucket and shovel and moved sand and water from bucket to bucket! We also enjoyed our last evening out at a wonderful Italian restaurant in downtown Venice.
This is my favorite picture from the trip! A wave had just got them and they looked at each other with the exact same expression!
Overall, it was a wonderful vacation. Everyone had a great time and the kids loved their first experience at the beach!
Mote Aquarium, Day 3
To take a little break from the beach we went to Sarasota and went to Mote Aquarium. The kids loved seeing the sharks and other sea life.
Florida, Day 2
We went to Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota. It was a beautiful white sand beach and slightly bigger waves than the previous day (which the kids still loved!). We had a picnic lunch on the beach and enjoyed another beautiful day playing in the sand and jumping in the waves. We went to a fish house for dinner (KC Key Fish House) and even managed a family picture!
Florida, Day 1
We spent the morning at Venice Beach. The kids loved their first encounter with the sand and the ocean. They were not scared to go in the water and the waves were nice and calm so they were able to play and enjoy it pretty freely. They all loved digging in the sand as well. We had lunch at a restaurant right on the beach (Sharkey’s) and walked along the pier. After [attempted] nap time, we even made it to the condo’s pool. Brooke loved swimming since she didn’t have to worry about her cast (we covered it in the sand/ocean). Will hadn’t been swimming since last summer and was a little fish!
Vacation!
A few weeks ago we went to Florida for a week with our good friends, the Moores. The kids were so excited to ride on an airplane and go to the beach (even though they really didn’t know what that meant!) We stayed at Susan’s parents’ condo in Venice, Florida. The weather was a perfect 85 deg and sunny the entire week. This was our first family trip with the kids and overall it went great! They did great on all of the airplane rides, slept [okay] and had fun! It was not the most relaxing vacation for the parents but watching the kids play on the beach was worth every exhausting minute! I am going to do a series of posts with pictures since I have so many good ones.
