Miles to go...

I haven't been riding too much since we've come home from South Dakota. I've found that it's hard to get inspired after leaving the beauty of the Black Hills. Still, I've been riding my short commute and I always put on 4 or 5 miles around town in the evening. I'm going to start the daily 15 mile morning ride tomorrow. I also need to get a century under my belt if I plan on riding the GTDRI. later... Joe

Vacation Day 5

This morning, we hiked the Sunday Gulch Trail in Custer Park. The trail was labeled as 2.8 miles and “strenuous”. We concluded that it was more than 2.8 miles and damn strenuous. Needless to say, we were beat by the time we finished. "Snail" shaped rock…?

Family Vacation... Day 4

Today we rode our bikes on the Mickelson Trail in the morning. The trail was nice gravel and there were tunnels spread along it which were great taking breaks in. After lunch, we drove the Needles Highway and went hiking around Sylvan Lake. We're going to go back to the Needles area and hike some more tomorrow.

Family Vacation... Day 3

Big day today. We started it off with a visit to Mt. Rushmore. After that, went out for lunch at DQ and ran into some friends of ours who were also on vacation in the Black Hills. Small world, eh? Then we drove around looking for steep roads to drive our van up. We ended the day by taking a short ride on the Mickelson Trail. Tomorrow we're going to drive further North and ride the trail some more.

Family Vacation... Day 2

Day 2 of our vacation... We drove from Mitchell to Wall to see Wal Drug. After that, we drove through the Badlands.

Day 1 of our vacation finds us in Mitchell, South Dakota. Our first stop was the corn palace, which was pretty corny. We met some strange creatures in Mitchell.

Long Week, No Post...

I had a long week in Chicago for work, with no time to post to the blog. I did enjoy a nice ride last Sunday with the Cedar Falls crew. We rode up to Ingawanis Boy Scout camp for a couple laps. I never imagined that the trails would be that much fun there. The trail builders really know what they're doing. Thanks guys!!

Last Saturday morning was a perfect day for 40 miles of easy pavement riding with a couple coworkers. We ended the ride with Tim giving us a tour of his home along the Cedar River. He has a couple of really beautiful wood canoes that he built by hand. This weekend was our family reunion. Surprisingly, the cold, windy, and rainy day didn't keep people from attending and having a great time.
