Q&AI regularly get e-mails from readers with questions related to my lifestyle, which I try to answer as exhaustive as possible. Some of them could be interesting for other readers as well. Here we go with a new section of this site. These are the first questions answered:

  • You are a German but write in English, are you mad with your home country?
  • What’s your take on LASIK Eye Surgery in Bali?
  • What’s your opinion on purchasing Real Estate, Land or Villas in Bali?
  • How do you do it – money-wise?

Indian Nurses at workIt’s been a while since I wrote about Medical Tourism. Meanwhile I had a bit more experience with medical services in India and I’m impressed with what is available.

If you are an Expat, living in Asia without health insurance or a holiday maker from Europe, Australia or the US – it could be interesting for you to check out the medical system offered in India.

You can find solutions of world-class healthcare with very affordable price tags.

Let me give you 5 reasons, why you should especially think of Goa, when considering your next surgery or health procedure:

Pre-birth Sex Determination punishable by law in IndiaActually – todays picture isn’t so funny after all. It’s more a really sad story.

In many poorer countries it is considered bad luck, if your child is a girl rather than a boy.

The century-old perception is as follows: a boy will be able to work and support mother and father one day, thus bringing money into the family; while a girl will rely on other family members or has to be paid dowry for, when she gets married – thus costing the family money.

This is especially a problem in India:

Newton Supermarket Candolim, now limited beer offers of imports, only locally brewedBeer in Goa is a strange creature. As observed before, most local brews here taste all similar due to preservatives added to ensure a longer shelf life in the tropics.

Unfortunately this spoils the taste of a beer completely, even for normal beer drinkers with more insensitive tongues.

Luckily there is light at the end of the tunnel. You can buy unspiked beer in Goa, if you know where. And for the adventurous thirsty traveler, there is even a method to separate beer and preservatives from each other.

Havrix Hepatitis A Vaccine as sold in Goa, IndiaLiving in Asia the past 6 years, I regularly try to stay up-to-date with Immunizations and precautions. As a pampered and spoiled European you naturally don’t have the immune system or the antibodies to fight diseases like Hepatitis, Typhoid, Polio, Malaria or Dengue.

Not that it’s recommended you do that at all.

But while you can’t take Malaria prophylaxis like Lariam, Malarone or Doxycycline over all the years you want to live here (some mosquitos anyway develop a resistance to it and it’s better to use precautions not to be bitten at all), you can do something about diseases like Hepatitis.

The Marlboro Man swinging his LassoIt’s astonishing how western multinational companies invested their time and money around the globe to build their brands as easily recognisable as they are today. Nobody says Cola anymore but Coke and you are used to dine at Mc Donald’s or Burger King and know that your Big Mac or Whopper will taste the same in Addis Ababa or New York or Capetown (even though that isn’t completely true).

Global brand power…

Companies like Starbucks or Pizza Hut gain their strength for expansion from their easily recognisable Logos, colours and symbols, which make a good part of a successful franchise.

The Digital NomadA Digital Nomad is a person who needs mobile technology to conduct business while on the road which could be within a city, between cities or from other countries. Nomads are not location dependent except through personal choice and could be employed by a business or be freelancers.

This is a growing trend with the uncertainties of long term employment with a single company and rapid changes in emerging technologies, and there is a different mindset required to be successful.

So the guys over at Digital Nomads are trying to figure out what people who seem to live that kind of lifestyle are like and they came up with a meme about it.

Juice fresh from the Coconut, what a treat!Wednesday morning, 10am. Or is it 11am already? Doesn’t matter! You are just about to wake up. Ahhh, another nice holiday in paradise. ;-)

The temperatures hover already steadily above 30 degrees centigrade (in the 100’s Fahrenheit) and the sweat is running down your back. Your tongue is dry and feels like it’s stuck swollen on the palate of your mouth.

What can help to ease this serious situation?

Jump on your bike and find out where the next vendor is selling ‘Es Kelapa’ – Ice Coconut!
