Thankful for new technology!

What a wonderful surprise greeted
the library this week.
A recent donation provided
5 new chromebooks for the
elementary library!

We put them right to work.
Fourth and fifth grade readers
enjoyed recording and publishing
individual videos posting their favorite
books and authors.

What a tremendous blessing!

OCS version of the National Book Festival

Someday, some year....we would love to
participate in the National Book Festival.
The event is present annually by the
Library of Congress.  A wondrous celebration
of readers, books  and authors - it is a
great motivator to highlight the importance
of reading in our lives.

Image

To capture some of the fun this week, students rotated
through various activities to promote literacy.

They created bookmarks.

They played an Eye Spy game with the festival poster.

And of course.... there was reading!

Great Expectations in the Library

We are blessed to be a G E model school.
Our teachers and students are implementing
classroom practices, reviewing expectations,
and practicing life principles.

Even in the Library!

We found these students putting into
action one of  this week's life principles:
         COOPERATION.

It is exciting to watch the students
live out what they are learning.

#classroombookaday

We have started a new adventure this year.
The library has joined a reading challenge on
Twitter called #classroombookaday.

Image

We will be reading a different picture book
throughout the year.
That will add up to 172 books!

To feature this goal- the display in the library hall will have
a new book cover picture posted each day on a different gear.

Image

Image

Today it was a visit to a kindergarten class to share the book -
"Jabari Jumps."

It will be exciting to watch the display grow with great reads!

and head into school ready to welcome
our new students !

What's the theme for this year?

We love creating a new theme of library
decor each year.  It keeps students
excited about what is happening there.

So with lots of paper and some cutouts
and lots of staples........ it's done.

Meet this year's ....
       S T O R Y   L A B O R A T O R Y  !!!
Image

Of course....knowing Mrs. Bass's slogan - "More is more!" there are sure to be
a few more accents along the way!

Many stop by the library even before they
look for their classrooms!

The excitement grows every time people hear the bell ringing to announce
that another list has been turned in!!
