Grandkids

I had this all prepared to post a month ago (which was still pretty late) and then did not get around to actually posting before our trip to pick up Joseph.  I will go ahead and post now and then start working on posts of our trip to Guam, Pohnpei and Oahu.

Neil and Ashley and their kids came to visit us toward the end of March for spring break.  At the end of that week, was Scott’s blessing.  Katie, Ryan and Lucas also came to visit that week.  I was able to take lots of photos of grandkids that week.  Here are some of my favorite photos of that week with a few at Easter at the end.

Charlotte loves to climb into and sit in cabinets.  This is her under our TV.

After taking that photo, I showed him the photo on the camera and zoomed in on his eye.  I told him that there were windows in his eye.  He looked at the photo and was very happy to know that there actually were windows in his eye.  This is what he could see.

Madoc also liked playing with the noise canceling headphones.

The next series of photos were taking at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

After the aquarium, we ate lunch and then stopped at the rocks on the beach next to the restaurant.

Lucas sat down to play in the sand, but a wave got his pants.

We next went to Dennis the Menace park which is close.  The kids had a lot of fun playing there.

After that, we went home.  A few days later, we went to Santa Cruz.  Charlotte was enjoying the ride.

We went on a tour at the marine preserve, but it was raining a bit so Charlotte enjoyed the umbrella shelter.

On the day of Scott’s baby blessing, Madoc was enjoying the company of a laundry hamper.

The remaining photos were taken at John and Becky’s house on Easter Sunday.  Scott and Lucas were getting to know each other better.

Scott

I have enjoyed visiting Scott for the last two weeks.  He loves to be held and he loves to eat.  Yesterday evening, I was visiting Scott (and John and Becky).  I took several photos while I was holding him and thought I should post the best ones.  I also went back and chose a couple of the best photos from when he was “much younger”.

This first photo was taken shortly after we arrived at the hospital.  Scott was 2 hours old.
Image

The following photo was taken 4.5 days later when we were visiting John and Becky’s house.  Scott had really figured out how to eat and was trying to eat his grandma’s face.
Image

The following two photos were taking last night when Scott was 14 days old.  He was alternating between making smiling faces and other funny faces.  I was not quick enough with the camera to get some of the funny ones or the best smiles, but I like this one.
Image

Scott was opening his eyes (sometimes, just one eye) and then go back to sleep.
Here, he opened one eye, made a finger gesture at his grandpa, and went back to sleep.  I think the finger gesture means I am his number one grandpa, but I cannot be certain.

Elder Joseph Crapo Photos

Joseph sent home two memory cards with a total of 7 Gb of photos and video clips.  I have selected some of the photos of Joseph to post.

This is Joseph with his first mission president and his wife.  The photo was taken in June.  They went home the first of July when a new mission president arrived.

Taken in July, this was taken from the top of a mountain on a hike overlooking the Pohnpei coastline.

In August, Joseph was transferred to Guam as a zone leader.  This is Joseph and Elder Shuster on their way to Guam to go to zone leader training.  Elder Shuster was zone leader on Pohnpei at this transfer.  Elder Shuster was Samoan but he was from New Zealand.  Joseph’s new companion, as of this week, Elder Gasu, is also Samoan, but he is from Corona, California.

A few days later, about 3 weeks before Christmas, Joseph was assigned to be a trainer of a new missionary, Elder Lovelace, who is standing right behind Joseph.  These are the new missionaries with their companions.

We mailed Christmas packages to Joseph at his Guam address the day before we found out he got transferred back to Pohnpei.  Other packages sent later arrived at the correct address.  Here, he finally has all of his Christmas packages.

At a very young age, most boys learn that just about any object can be used as though it were a toy car.  As they grow up a little more, they find that just about any object can be used to pretend you are firing a weapon.  Here, a piece of a jungle plant is improvising as a high power weapon.

Since it rains so much on Pohnpei, missionaries learn to improvise with native umbrella materials.

Looking for investigators, they sometimes have to wade through tall grass.

Sometimes the tall grass can eat missionaries.

 Some nice scenic views.

The following photos were from either the mission presidents facebook postings on the mission facebook page from a zone conference or from a senior couple assigned to Pohnpei that keep a blog.  They post photos and stories of the missionaries.  I have a link to their blog with the family blogs on the left.

These are all from zone conferences.

Elder Carlson, the zone leader was acting like he was going to eat a centipede.  Joseph had his classic look of concern in watching Elder Carlson.
Image
There is some resemblance to a photo taken when joseph was 2.  He was concerned about the catfish that Neil and Bret caught.

We will not likely see any more photos of his mission until he comes home in three months.
