Pahk the cah....

During the "Is it raining up there? Yankees vs. Red Sox!! Do you think it'll stop soon?" monsoon that we had last night - I dragged my friend out to a bar (not her natural habitat) to see Stephanie White & the New Jersey Philth Harmonic and ended up staying for the second band, All Crazy.

What was originally a “Please can we stay to watch the second band……just for one song?? They have an electric violin!!!” situation for me became “We are NOT leaving!” situation for her.

Definite contrast between the two bands – the first is philthy music with an amazing singer and the second is the perfect drunken college kid band. The first grooved "King of Wishful Thinking" and the other rocked out "The Sweater Song". Both played great sets and I felt myself smiling the whole night. What's that quote? Oh yeah, music charms the soul.....And when the first cords of Baba O’Reily hit, all I could say was “CSI!!!” due to giddiness.

I am definitely a fan of bands covering songs that you wouldn't expect - Instrument did an accoustic version of "Time After Time" at one of their first shows and No Doubt once closed their show with "Oh-Bla-Di".

It was awesome to see a band member play an electric violin the whole time without having to bust out “Devil Went Down to Georgia” – the song would have been welcomed, but it was not necessary.

A fun night in a college town – complete with a wasted girl who fell into our booth, pulled me up to dance and asked if I went to one of the colleges. She was feeling no pain and having a blast. (made me feel a bit old, but I have had my time in the "I lost my friend" realm)

And for those who were worried - there was no licking......

Over Easy!

Why is it that I always order eggs "over easy" when I go out for breakfast but when I make them at home I feel compelled to cook the crap out of them?

It's a rainy day - perfect for scrapbooking and trying out my new crock pot.....my guinea pig has already told me that she's scared....but it's ziti - I can't mess it up!

Wine Snob Accusation....

OK, so I am not a super duper huge wine snob – I have my preferences (Vampire, Poizin, Ravenswood, anything from Chile) but they are not the crazy expensive wines. Plus I do not like Pinot Noir (the movie Sideways did not convert me).

My wine rack does have a couple expensive bottles that are for special occasions – still trying to figure out what the appropriate time would be for “7 Deadly Zins” – heh.

Anyway, White Zinfandel was mentioned in a recent conversation – eww, eww, eww and oh yeah, eww! This was the reaction from me, the person who embraces things with a Z in their name – go figure….

I like my Zins and Cabs, but a white zinfandel – just ick….and then I was dubbed a wine snob. But I do drink wine in a box sometimes!!

Had to share…..

Never too old....

I am a firm believer that you are never too old to celebrate your birthday. It's an excuse to get together with friends, remember people that you care about, get presents, eat cake with yummy frosting and just overall enjoy the day!

I had some very cute callers this morning - "Am I the first one to wish you a Happy Birthday!?!?" Unfortunately for them, the prize went to my 3 am caller and I would not have it any other way.

Thanks to all the well wishers - you are all getting a mental hug from me!! And for the voice mail that told me to "remember that you are loved" - I miss you all and know that we are overdue for a visit!!

I have the dumb continues....

My status on FB yesterday said "I can’t think today – I have the dumb....."

Seems to be continuing today - I was making popcorn this morning to add to my lunch and so I could season it with this great Pampered Chef rosemary spice mix....but I digress....

I opened the microwave, saw a trivet that I had used last night and acknowledged the trivet's presence in the microwave. I then put the popcorn bag on top of the trivet.....

About 30 seconds later, the kitchen was full of smoke - complete with ominous clouds billowing from the microwave vents......

The trivet's life is over, the microwave is fine and I still got my popcorn. My hair smells like burnt trivet though…ick.
