Express yourself

I was recently inspired by my "new blog friend" Sarah to paint a bit. I took some time out on Saturday and Sunday to get a painting started. It's acrylic on a long narrow piece of plywood (approx 9" x 4'6")... I left the piece in Chattanooga, and I assume I'll just slowly complete the painting as I travel up there a couple of times each month. It should be a fun project to work on for a while!

Here's a peek into what I have just barely started. This is the uppermost portion of the plywood, and the white section is gesso that I've painted on there. It will eventually be covered with color. I'm calling this "Creation"...

I've never claimed to be a great painter, but we've all got a little artist in us. Part of what makes us humans is that we have the ability to create... and I think it's important to express creativity.

How do you express yourself?

Do you sometimes feel "compelled" to make things or communicate ideas in creative ways?

Do you think that the creative process is important? If yes/no, why?

Sugar tooth

Every other Tuesday, I lead a meeting with my co-workers. Sometimes, motivation is a little lacking, and the meeting can be less-than-exciting.

Today, I tried another tactic:

Running man

I've started running recently. I'm not sure how long it will last, but I do hope it lasts longer. Here's the status so far:

  • The first day (Saturday) , I ran about 3/4 of a mile, and I felt nauseous (partly due to other health-woes, I am pretty sure).
  • Day two (Sunday) was 1.5 miles with a minute break at the half mark
  • Day three (Monday) was about 1 mile, just to say I ran.
  • Day four (Thursday) was just scant of two miles without stopping. I really think I could have gone another 1/2 to 1 mile.
  • Day five (Saturday) - almost two miles again. I was running late to catch up with some friends so was unable to push myself any more.

My goal is to be able to run five miles straight. But I think my goal should really be three miles, because that is a lot more reasonable. ;-)

We'll see how this all goes... Onto week number two!

This is the church. This is the steeple...

Image
Saint Anne's Catholic Church was in fine form tonight at sundown. I am sorry that I was in a rush and unable to take the time to get a really nice shot of all the colors in the sky.

But, I am glad to share this glimpse of how beautiful tonight was for me.

This wound

Image
This wound I favor,
Instead of you.

I cling to my cure,
Though I know you are the balm.

My ointment is pain,
Heaped upon pain,
Of this wretched body of death.

It is my nature to propogate death,
To despise life,
To fear light,
To run astray,

That you would heal this one,
Who seeks his own demise.

Against my deeds and desires,
Bring me life.
