Our Service
Open Fifth works with hosting partners who use sustainable hosting practices that are ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 50001:2011 certified, validating our ethical practices that minimise environmental impact.
We are able to provide hosting within the UK and the EU through our hosting partners to suit your needs. This ranges from very small instances, to large dedicated servers. These servers are always updated nightly with the latest security patches for the underlying operating system and core components – all backed by fast SSD storage.
The Open Fifth Infrastructure team have a combined thirty years of experience in Linux systems administration, with additional expertise throughout the company.
Our hosted solutions allow us to offer a comprehensive service package, allowing your time to be spent doing what you do best – running libraries.
System Stability
At Open Fifth one of the core principles in our infrastructure design is to maintain a high level of system performance as well as availability.
The modern internet feels like a wilderness of bots, scrapers and denial of service attacks – see our recent bots blog for more. We maintain multiple toolchains to mitigate threats, from simple firewalling, through to localised bot mitigation (Anubis) and Cloudflare, using each tool where it’s most appropriate. These are included in the cost of your service – not an add-on cost.
This helps maintain your system’s performance and aids with security, preventing bad actors from reaching your collection.

Effective, compliant and proactive information security management and cyber resilience are fundamental for everything we do here at Open Fifth. We maintain the following certifications to help us stay compliant:
