For more than a century, the Caring and Sharing Exchange has helped Ottawa families and individuals in need, brightening the back-to-school season and the holidays. This year, the local charity has assisted more than 9,000 households through its Christmas Exchange program, providing food hampers and gift vouchers to help make the season a little brighter. “The Caring and Sharing Exchange is a 110-year-old organization based in Ottawa,” said Megan O’Meara, president of the board. “We provide help to individuals and families in need at key times of the year, particularly the back-to-school season and Christmas.” Through the sponsor hamper program, community members, businesses and organizations can directly support families or individuals by providing festive hampers or food vouchers. Recipients receive this support with dignity, helping ease what can be a stressful time for those trying to ensure a special Christmas for themselves or their children. Requests for assistance have been higher than ever this year, with 11,000 households reaching out and about 34,000 individuals represented. Donations and hamper sponsorships continue through Dec. 24. Even if it’s too late to sponsor a hamper this year, monetary contributions help the organization continue its programs and plan for next year’s holiday support. For those looking to give back and spread some holiday cheer, the Caring and Sharing Exchange offers a meaningful way to make a difference in the community.
