I want to shoot a low-budget feature about a section of Dalforce soldiers standing the line in the forest, oblivious to the surrender of the British.

LTK on LKY
I have a lot of opposition supporters coming up to tell me that they disagree with calling Lee Kuan Yew the Founding Father of modern Singapore.
I think Low Thia Kiang said it well on Wednesday's Zaobao, in respect to the hotly circulated photograph of WP's MPs taking a photo with Lee at the swearing-in ceremony.
“李资政是新加坡的开国元勋。虽然我反对他在执政期间的一些政策,而他的治国方式和我对好些政策的不满,包括关闭南洋大学,也促成了我投身反对党政治,但他对新加坡的整体贡献有目共睹,也令我尊敬。工人党的议员在他退出内阁之际要求与他合照,是基于对李资政的尊重。”

Ang Lee
Bangkok, fresh from the pilgrimage in January 2007. The city is such a treasure trove for every cinephile.
Growing up with the romanticism of the wandering swordsman. I have a classmate whose dad must have been quite obsessed with the film. Always playing on the machine, each time we visit his place for projects.
Censored / Collector's Box Set.

"新加坡,好!李光耀,好!"
"新加坡,好!李光耀,好!"
This is a very chatty 80 over old man I met, while on the long journey back from Yangming Shan. I don't have a very glamorous shot because the bus was packed to the brim and I was having a serious headache. He said he joined the KMT army when he was 16 and fought against the Japanese and the Commies. When KMT lost the civil war, he came over to Taiwan.

PM Lee's speech at Swearing-in-Ceremony
4. Our politics cannot remain static either. More interest groups and alternative views have emerged, competing for support. Our political system can and must accommodate more views, more debate and more participation. At the same time, it is absolutely crucial for Singaporeans to stay united on the big issues, understand the fundamental realities facing a small country in Southeast Asia, and work together to develop and implement the best solutions for our country.
The entire speech here.
But more interestingly,

Our country can only grow stronger from here.

8 in 10 Singaporeans pissed off with the transport system
Singaporeans' satisfaction with our own public transport system is poor, as indicated in this recent news report, and the subsequent comments on cyber space.
"Singapore scored 54.5 points, below the global benchmark of 61. Those travelling on public transport indicated a higher level of discontent: Out of 740 public transport commuters and 674 private transport commuters polled here, 77.5 per cent and 57 per cent respectively were dissatisfied with their journey experience."
I've been to KL, China and India, and if they can rank at 9th, 12th, 14th and 15th, ahead of Singapore's 18th place, it says a lot about the Singaporean attitude. Either we are so atas we have such high expectations or we are really just a bunch of pampered whiners living in our luxurious ivory tower.

I think this survey reads better as a measure of how whingy Singaporeans are.
Oh, you beat me to it - I was also going to say that the only thing this survey shows is how much Singaporeans like to complain! :-)

苦口良药。Democracy runs the risk of a weak government, a directionless leadership at multiple crossroads, more focus on winning the hearts of the people to stay in power than making things right. It may be the safest, strongest option to put a government within the mercy of its people, the whims and wants of the populace, but politics is not a game for the common people. It is elitist. For only a selected few.
