Colorful Dessert Platters
First, get goblets in different sizes/shapes and clear glass plates (got mine from the dollar tree).
When the caulk is dry enough, (according to the package instructions) spray the entire outside with frosted glass. This will make the paint adhere to the glass:)
Now for the fun part!!! Get your Krylon paint and spray away! It took me a few coats per dish.
The cool thing about Krylon paint and the caulk adhesive is that it's hand washable!
And I used the same idea with these candy jars. I just reused some jelly jars and glued some old candle sticks to them with the caulk adhesive.
Toy Chest Makeover
My kids were given this toy chest years ago and it has gotten some good use! It was ready for a makeover for Brooklyn's room, so I went to work! I started by spray painting the lid and the bars with pink. When the bars were completely dry, I covered them with painter's tape and then painted the rest of the toy chest with a satin finish pure white.
Then, I got new hinges for the lid and put it all together!
I am so happy with the results!
Make Your Own Chalk Paint!
I've heard a lot lately about chalk paint and how awesome it is because you typically don't have to sand the wood when you are using it. I found a recipe on pinterest and put it to the test! It totally worked!!!
FIRST: Get a flat paint in the color you want your furniture piece to be.
SECOND: Add 1 Tablespoon unsanded grout per cup of flat paint.
I found that the paint thickens very quickly and I had to water it down a bit. I also had to use what I made right then. If you have to come back to the project, you will need to store the paint in an airtight container. Even then, you might need to water it down a bit when you start up again.
Here is the first project I did using the homemade chalk paint!
I forgot to take a before picture...
Here's my second project.
I put some streaks of wood stain on it using a piece of muslin.
It didn't quite give it the weathered effect I was going for, but you get the idea.
After the chalk paint is dry, get some Johnson paste wax (in the cleaning isle at Lowe's).
Using a soft cloth, rub it onto the entire piece of furniture. After about an hour, buff the whole thing with a clean piece of soft cloth. It gives it a nice finish without making it too shiny or sticky:)
Chevron Striped Canvas
Get a 12x12 canvas board. Using electrical tape, create your chevron stripes.
Spray paint the board the color of your choice.
Carefully remove the tape.
I added a wooden H for my last name, but the possibilities are endless!
I added it to my "beach wall" layout.
Some frames are made of wood and some are made of foam board.
(I don't recommend making the foam ones. They are a huge pain!!!)
Almost finished. I just need to add a 12x20 canvas with something on it in the upper right corner:)
DIY Mini Library
This was made with 3 spice racks from ikea (3-4 dollars each).
Drink Jars
I spray painted the rims with the krylon paints mentioned above.
The liner is a cupcake paper!
I ordered the paper straws online (around $8 for 30).
I cut an x slit for the straw using my exacto knife.
If you keep the boxes your jars came in, you can wrap them in
wrapping paper and serve your drinks from cute boxes!
Bedroom Door Wreaths
You can get a 6 ft. piece of foam tubing in the plumbing department at Home Depot for 97 cents.
Cut the tubing the size you want and then duct tape it together. Tie ribbon and strips of fabric all the way around. It takes a while to get it full but it's worth it!
I just bought a pack of command hooks to hang them on.
The letter in the middle is cut out of foam board and painted.
I printed the letters out and then traced and cut them with my exacto knife.
