Life after boards

There IS life after the boards!...and wer're living it! This week was great for both David and I. The kids in my class are really good and cute. I had forgotten how young they seem when they first come. I have a couple of kids that are going to be a challenge, but they're not too bad. David did multiple proceedures this week and even did his first root canal!...which went well. This weekend we are just hanging out and doing home stuff.

David worked hard to re-seal some of the edges of the drive-way that had started to crack. The first time that he sealed the driveway it got literally everywhere. He didn't want it to get on his hands this time, so he attached a screw and a make-shift handle to a plastic Slim's cup. It was completely boot-leg.

We also planted some mums!

Back to School

School time is here again! Today was the first day of school for the kids and first real work day for me! Getting up early again was HARD for me. David was better about it than me because he only slept in for this last week...let's just say I didn't get up especially early too many times this summer. :) David now has one, one hour class every morning and clinic for the rest of the day all week. Here we are before we both left for our respective fall semesters...we look a smidge tired...because we were!

Image

Here is a picture from the first day of school. These are all my kids minus one that threw up right after school started. Yes, she threw up three times on the first day of school, within the first hour of class...just my luck. I handled it pretty well considering I get completely sicked out by throw up. :)

They are a cute class for sure.

The news of the day/week/month/year/first entire two years of dental school thus far...DAVID PASSED THE FIRST ROUND OF THE NATIONAL BOARD EXAMINATIONS! The scores came in the mail today and made for a great ending to our first day getting back into the swing of things. Thank you so much for all of your prayers and sweet words to David during this waiting period...it has really made a difference!

New Dog House for Deuce Dog

This week has been great! I have had teacher meetings all week and David has had the week off. We are still waiting somewhat patiently for David's scores to arrive. After I got done everyday (between 1:00 and 2:00) I came back and David and I got to hang out. My room is all set for Monday and the "Meet the Teacher" day went well on Friday morning. I'm sad to see summer go! One of the projects that David started this week was building Deuce a new dog house. We wanted to have a "hand-made" one that was fully insulated too. Success! Here are the steps...

This is when David just had the framing kind-of done and the floor insulation ready to be covered.

Deuce was very patient and watched every step.

The walls are up and fully insulated.

Almost ready for the roof.

Image

Complete! The last thing that is left to do is paint it. We're thinking we'll paint it red with some black trim. I will also paint Deuce's name above the door.

Image

Deuce likes it we think! He is not resistant to going in it and even tried to ride along while we were working extremely hard to move the massive thing.

Even though I haven't been in any of these pictures I promise that I helped. :)

Last night we were able to go eat sushi with our friends Brett and Sarah and in the middle of dinner a HUGE storm came in. We finished dinner and by the time we got home we realized that we didn't have power at the house. We decided to make the most of it and watched a movie on David's laptop and then went on to bed. The power ended up coming back on around 2:00 a.m. thankfully. This morning we went down to the village and ate breakfast and walked around a little bit...it was so nice. Then we spent the rest of the day working on the dog house. Tomorrow we're going out to lunch with some people from Sunday School so we are really looking forward to that!

Church Picnic

The church picnic tonight was really fun! We got to hang out with friends and David and a couple of the other guys from Sunday School hopped into a football game of young boys. They called plays, were always the quarterbacks, and got the little boys excited to play. It was fun to watch and even funnier to talk about afterward. David accidentally threw one ball a little hard and bounced it off a small child's chest! Of course it was an accident, and the kid didn't care, but we all thought it was pretty hilarious.

End of summer clinic!

Image

The summer clinic is over! David now has a week off before he starts the fall clinic and the 5 classes that he will be in. I got my classroom completely finished this week so that I can leave as soon as orientations are over this next week and we can do some fun stuff on David's week off. We've had a really good weekend and it's not over yet! On Friday night we went to Buca de Bepo (I have no idea how to spell it) and used a coupon that we had. The picture up top is from when we were waiting to be seated.

On Saturday morning we went and ate at a place called Town Topic that we've wanted to go to since we moved to KC. It's just right up the road from our house on Johnson drive and it looks like good home cooking. It did turn out to be good...not the best we've ever had, but good still. We also had to take Deuce to the vet and he got a clean bill of health and weighs 40 pounds now!

During the day on Saturday we just enjoyed being able to do whatever we wanted without David having to study. We worked around the house, changed out a light fixture, and even got to take naps! We went to Home Depot to get a floor finishing thing and David said that we should bring Deuce. I didn't think dogs were allowed in Home Depot, but nobody said anything to us and we even saw two other dogs!!! Little did we know.

On Saturday night we hung out with some good friends, Matt and Dianna, from church and went and ate at Pizza Shoppe and got some Sheridan's. It was really fun.

He's getting bigger!

Tonight we're heading off to the church wide picnic...should be fun!

No Pictures?!

Somehow, David and I went to Little Rock this weekend and managed to not take ANY pictures. Not one. I don't know what I was thinking. So, this is a boring blog post with no pictures.

We got to David's parent's house in Little Rock around 11:30 Friday night and got Deuce unloaded an settled before we headed to bed. On Saturday Kathy made a great breakfast and John and Sarah joined us for it. Then we all went down to the farm to spend some time with David's Grandma. She made us a huge meal that included all things Southern and good...pork roast, black eyed peas, corn, fried okra, gravy, rolls, cherry pie, and coconut cream pie. Yum. We took Deuce with so he could hang out with the farm dog, Kip...he ran wild and free and loved every minute of it.

When we got back to Little Rock we got cleaned up and grilled steaks, ate lemon sorbet, and played games. Being at church at Immanuel was fun on Sunday and we got to see tons of people we hadn't seen in a while. The Rainwaters invited my parents to eat at the club after church and overall it was a wonderful weekend.

Classroom Work

I've spent a lot of time working in my classroom this week. I've pretty much gotten everything put up on the walls, which leaves me with all the planning and copying. Here's some pictures of the room so far...

Today I met my good friend Katherine Thorpe for lunch at Mi Ranchito on her lunch break. I also got to go out and see where she works. It was so fun to have a lunch date in the middle of the day. Thanks for going Katherine!

I decided to include a new picture of Deuce. You can't really tell how big he is, but he's growing every day!

Time with Lauren

Image

On Friday afternoon, right after I got off work at Barstow, I left for Rogers, AR to hang out with Lauren. I got there at 3:15 and we just hung around the house and played with Parker until we got ready to go eat sushi! We went to Dickson Street and ate at an old favorite, Wasabi. This picture is from right after we ate a total of 32 rolls. Eating sushi is no joke for us. :)

Image

After dinner we went back to Lauren's house, put Parker to bed, and then spent the night watching "Dear John." David is so proud that Parker already loves to brush his teeth...

Image

On Saturday we had a lazy morning and then met Tripp for lunch at Slim Chickens. Yum. Afterward Lauren and I got some much needed pedicures. Parker did great and let us enjoy the whole process without getting upset! Lauren worked hard to keep him occupied with treats.

I drove home later Saturday afternoon and hung out with David. I had such a great time with you Lauren! You're the best and we need to do it again as soon as we can. Love you!

This week I am going to start working in my classroom. David's test is Tuesday, so keep him in your prayers!
