Weekend Fun

This has been quite a busy weekend for David and I...and the business isn't going to stop for a while! First, we thought that Spring had sprung this week. Our tulip tree bloomed and Deuce was loving the warm weather.

Unfortunately, winter showed itself again and we even saw some snowflakes this weekend! Ahh! I am officially tired of winter. Tired. Of. Winter.

On Friday night we went with some friends to watch the KU game for Matt's birthday. It was fun and KU won, which didn't help my bracket at all. :) We had a great time hanging out though.

That is Matt's hand in the background...thanks Matt.

Matt loves hot sauce, so we stopped at the Panola plant on our way home from the beach and got him some. I forgot to post this lovely picture earlier.

On Saturday we spent some time at the house. We were going to work in the yard, but it was too cold. We also had to go over to one of my co-worker's houses to get some instructions from her. We are going to be keeping her kids for her for a little bit in the coming weeks. :) We will be guardians of teenagers, watch out! :)

On Saturday night we went to Drew Endicott's surprise birthday party and had a great time hanging out. I didn't do very good taking picturs and only managed to get one fo the girls, no guy shots. We just sat around and laughed and talked about life and school.

David has gotten to go to Washington D.C. again for the ASDA student lobby day. I'm so excited that he gets to go and experience it and get involved. He went to D.C. last year, but for a different reason (a presentation thing). I am holding down the house here with my two children, Deuce and Sooie. Neither of them will talk back though. :)

I can't wait for spring weather!!!!!!!!!

Just when we thought spring had sprung...

...it got cold again! When we came back to Kansas City from our trip the weather here was great. We have had a nice, but pretty busy week. I am getting back into the swing of things at work, and David took a test this week. We are SO ready for spring and our tulip tree has bloomed (I took a picture of it but I haven't loaded it to the computer yet), but this weekend we are expecting snow! Ahhh! We can't believe it.

Tonight we had our good friends Jonathan and Mandy over for dinner and to watch the Idol. :) We have a full weekend of fun activities ahead. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post on Saturday or Sunday. Pray for NO SNOW!

Vacation Day 3

The vacation is over! We're so sad, but will be happy to return to Kansas City eventually. Today we spent the whole day on the beach resting and reading. It was just gorgeous all day long. We took multiple walks looking for shells and observing all the college spring breakers. For dinner we went to Seaside to a place called Bud and Alley's. Our food was delicious. David had a shrimp and sausage pasta and I had seared tuna with shrimp chowder. Yum. We didn't take any pictures during the day today, but we took a lot right at sunset after dinner.

This is from right after dinner, on the deck at the restaurant.

Image

Then a nice woman volunteered to take our picture on the ramp down to the beach behind the restaurant.

Image

Then we went down to the beach and snapped a few fun shots.

After dinner we stopped and got a little treat. This is key lime pie on a stick, dipped in chocolate. Yeah. Yum.

We are so thankful to have gotten to come down here. Our condo was great, the weather was perfect, and our bikes made it so fun. We were sad to return them tonight. We drive back to Little Rock all day tomorrow. Then we will spend Friday in Little Rock and head back to Kansas City on Saturday.

One funny story we neglected to tell....we were at the Redbox one night and were waiting in line behind a very large group of young girls. We were kind-of talking to them and I asked one girl if it was their spring break and her reply was "yes ma'am." Now, saying yes ma'am, and no ma'am is how you do it in the south. David and I were both required to say it growing up and still say it to anyone significantly older than us. However, am I now old enough to receive it from High School students?! I couldn't believe that she turned and said it to me. Oh my. It was so funny.

Wonderful vacation!

Vacation Day 2

Good morning! Yesterday was a great day! We started off the day with a morning bike ride. I know, we don't usually bike this much, but we're discovering a renewed love for biking around on one speed bikes with coaster brakes. Besides, bikes are the primary mode of transportation down here. I wore all black...I don't know why.

Image

We spent the majority of the day on the beach. These first pictures are from when we biked down a little ways and found a tidal pool...David's ultimate goal.

Image

Image

Image

We took lots of pictures down on the beach, but I'm only putting these two up. We didn't get burned too bad and our sunglasses tans are improving. :)

Image

Late in the afternoon after we had all the sun we could take, we biked again! We rode down to Seaside and got a snowcone at this little trailer snow cone stand.

We managed to find some really pretty spots......

For dinner we went to this place called George's on Alys Beach then came back to the condo and took a night walk on the beach. We didn't bring a flashlight so we couldn't really look for crabs, but it was great to be down there. It's amazing how the weather changes here. You can be hot on the beach during the day, and then need pants and a sweatshirt to walk on the beach at night. Today is our last day and we're going to make the most of it. Right now we're going to head down to the beach because there's not a cloud in the sky!

Vacation day 1

We had a great time yesterday! In the morning we took a walk down the beach and explored the shops at Seaside. We also went inside the Vera Bradley Inn! Everything inside was Vera Bradley! Then we walked back to our place and rented bikes. We took off again once we got our bikes to explore some more and eat some lunch. Thankfully, our bikes came with a "really complicated" lock system, so we lock them up everywhere we go. :) When I say we, I mean David.

Image

Seaside is the cutest little place and everyone rides bikes or walks around all day!

Image

After a late lunch we rode the bikes just a little more and then went to spend some time on the beach. We accidentally spent the sunny part of the day on bikes, so the sun wasn't out a ton when we were on the beach. Little did we know, we had turned our faces in raccoon faces while riding bikes. We both have terrible sunglasses tans.

Last night we went and ate dinner at The Back Porch in Destin. We only had to wait 35 minutes and the food was delicious. I had my ultimate favorite, crab claws, and David had crab cakes, shrimp, and Gulf Grouper. It was amazing. Here are some pictures from The Back Porch.

After dinner we came back to our condo and baked cookies and watched a movie. Today we don't really have any definite plans...we're just going to go with the flow.

Spring Break 2011

We're here! When we were getting packed up on Friday and I think that Sooie thought we might take her along.

Image

Image

The drive was REALLY long. We had plans to leave Little Rock at 7:30, but somehow our alarm didn't go off and we ended up leaving at 9:00. We rolled into Grayton Beach and finally got into our condo at about 8:15. Here are some pictures of the condo.

We were pleasantly surprised to find that we have free wireless internet, so right now we are having a lazy morning in the condo and I decided to upload a couple pictures. Our unit is on the ground floor, so we have two nice patios to enjoy and the high today is in the lower 70's. When we got in last night we considered just grabbing something to eat real quick since we were starving, but then we figured, what the heck, let's just go to The Red Bar and wait it out. We got there at like 8:45 and they told us the wait was still an hour. Nothing could spoil our mood though and we decided to stay. They got us in after 30 minutes and we had some delicious seafood! David had mahi mahi and I have shrimp and crawfish. Here are some pictures from dinner.

We are already so thankful to be able to be here. It's nice to break up the routine and spend some alone time together.

Adios Amigos!

That's right...it's SPRING BREAK! David has been studying his booty off this week for his test that is today, but we will soon be basking in the warmer temperatures of Seaside, FL. Sooie heads to the kitty hotel, also known as Dearborne Animal Clinic and Deuce heads to Little Rock for some QT with his Granny and Pops. :)

I'm hoping maybe we can blog as we go, but if not, we'll see everyone when we get back!

SOOOO many pictures

Ok, so I'll just apologize up front for the massive amount of pictures. I just couldn't eliminate any, so there are TONS on this blog. David and I got to spend the weekend in Little Rock! I left on Thursday night because I was able to schedule my parent/teacher conferences all on Thursday and David flew one way on Friday afternoon. I got to Little Rock SUPER late and spent the day on Friday hanging out with Mom. We did a little shopping and worked to get set up for Deborah Johnson's church shower that was going to be at Mom's house on Saturday. Dad picked David up from the airport and we all met up (including Tripp who came to town to run in the Little Rock marathon) and ate dinner downtown at Dizzy's. Here we are at dinner.

We got to go over and see Shepherd on Friday night and Saturday during the day, so I included all the nephew pictures together. On Saturday morning was Deborah's shower. The women at Immanuel have traditionally done showers up BIG, and Deborah's was no exception. All the guests were able to eat on fine china plates with linen napkins and sterling silver flatware. Being a part of Immanuel was such a blessing growing up. I was reminded again this weekend of how important your church family is.

And now...the pictures of our wonderful nephew. We couldn't wait to see him and hold him for the first time. Here are two pictures of the proud grandparents, Mike (Grandpa) and Kathy (Gram).

Beautiful baby.

Proud parents.

We couldn't wait for our turn. David went first and it was the sweetest thing I have ever seen to see him holding and looking at his nephew. As a sidenote, he did great and is totally a natural at holding babies. :)

My turn!

So handsome.

My extremely athletic brother came to town to run in the Little Rock marathon as I mentioned before. He was planning on only running the half and finished 13 miles in 1 hour and 41 minutes! I am so proud of him and it might inspire me to run...might. Here he is near the end and finally closing in on the finish line.

Woohoo! Congratulations Tripp! We love you and are so proud of you.

This week is going to be good because it is the week before SPRING BREAK! We have the same spring break this year and will be road-tripping to the beach to find some warmer weather! David has two tests this week and I start my last class before I finish my masters! It should be a good week, full of lots to do.
