First Combine Ride

Image
Wheat harvest is in full swing. Addyson and Braden got their first combine ride yesterday! They slept through most of it - I think the combine is even better than bouncy seats!!

Logan goes home!

Today our buddy Logan from NICU and his parents dropped by. They are on their way home!!!!What a celebration! Here's a picture of the kids with Logan.

As we were taking the picture we realized we had laid them down just in the order that their beds were in NICU. What good neighbors we had! Logan is a special miracle and we are so happy that "going home" day finally came for them! God definitely has special plans for his life!!

Here are some pics of Addyson and Braden -

Updates

Thanks for praying for Logan. He is doing so much better. What a horrible week they have had but he has made huge improvements and is completely off of the ventilators and pretty much back to where he was before things took such a rough turn for the worse. Logan is such a fighter!! We are so glad that God has chosen to improve his condition and pray that he will be able to go home soon!

Now for an update on Addyson and Braden -
Today Addyson had an appointment with the pediatrician. She weighs 6 pounds 3.5 ounces and is 18 inches long. She gained around 21 grams a day over the last 2 weeks or roughly 2/3 of an ounce a day! We go again for another checkup in 2 weeks. Braden weighs 10 pounds 9.5 ounces. He is getting to be such a big boy!! We are just assuming that Addyson is a little bit of a slower grower and she'll just get to see the doctor more often but we're headed in the right direction!

Addyson has pretty much outgrown all of her preemie clothes and is wearing newborn clothes. Braden is into 0-3 month clothes. It is hard to believe how big they are getting. They don't look like my preemies anymore!!

Today was the first day that I took both kids out somewhere all by myself! I took them both to Addyson's dr. appointment. Ryan searched and searched and found a double umbrella stroller that will fit in our car that I can put both kids in. Now I feel like I can actually handle both of them. There is no way that I can carry both of them in their carriers for any length of time. They are giving me some muscles but not that many! We did well - it was fun to have them both out with me.

Here are some pictures of them. They are starting to be so much more aware of their surroundings and are starting to play with each other a little bit when you lay them together on the floor. There's a picture of them snoozing in their bouncy seats. Last night with the stormy weather we headed to the basement and the bouncy seats were one of the first things I grabbed - after the kids of course! I honestly don't know how we would live without them!! The electricity was out for about 1 1/2 hours. We were just getting ready to give the kids a candlelight dinner when the lights came back on. We were glad for that - I know some people were without power for much longer.

We're doing well and getting more and more used to our new normal and really enjoying the kids! That's it for now!

Please pray for Logan.

Tonight we made a trip back to Wesley. Our friend Logan, who was Addyson and Braden's neighbor in NICU, is having a really tough time. Please pray for Logan and his parents. Also please pray that the doctors and nurses would have wisdom to know what to do to help him.

It was really nice to see all the nurses and doctors that we miss from our days there - thanks to all of you for your encouragement and smiles! We loved showing off our sweeties and how much they've grown! We just wish we could have visited for a different reason - please remember Logan's family in your prayers.

Addyson passed her test!

Addyson had her sweat chloride test this morning. She did really well - it can sting they said when they make her sweat but she did really well with that - she hated them taping the sweat collecting pad the most but even then she didn't scream all that much! And the results were back already this afternoon. Normal! She does NOT have cystic fibrosis. So at this point the pediatrician thinks she is just growing slow because she is a preemie. No more tests planned at this point. He'll just watch her a little more closely and we'll probably have some extra doctor appointments. So great news!

Our Peanut

Image Addyson had her weekly appointment at the pediatrician on Tuesday. She weighs 5 pounds 9.5 ounces. She gained 4.5 ounces in 7 days. This still isn't the weight gain that they would like to see. She is spitting up so much less but it isn't showing up in her weight gain. So yesterday we had some lab done to check her kidneys, liver, and thyroid. They all came back in the normal ranges. On Friday we go to Wichita for a sweat chloride test to rule out more genetic problems. The doctor thinks that she is probably just a slow weight gainer because of being a preemie but wants to do some more tests to make sure there's not something we're missing. Braden is our "control" to compare her to and he is growing so much faster. Granted he's a boy and they're two different kids but his fast growth doesn't make the doctor feel that great about her slow growth. So it's kind of the same things we've been thinking through since January when we found out Addyson was so small for her age - even though there are no apparent symptoms to signal some genetic disorder we are doing testing now to confirm that therImagee aren't and just trying to figure out exactly why she's so little and growing so slow. We are trusting the Lord to take care of her just like we have since early in the pregnancy. But yesterday was a little scary since I thought we had gotten past the thoughts that she might have a major disorder. The last word was even though the tests on her placenta came back normal that something had to have been wrong since her s/d ratio went absent and reversed like it did and that was the reason for her being so tiny. And that could definitely still be the deal and that she's just a slow grower, but we're going through all the "what if's" again.

It will be a while before we get the sweat chloride test results and we see the pediatrician again on June 16 to hear test results and see where we go from here. The nurses back at NICU already called her peanut and her nurses still call her that and it's starting to stick. So you can pray that our peanut would continue to grow and be healthy!

Today Addyson and Braden are 3 months old! Hard to believe. They're starting to smile and also grab onto things and not let go, including daddy's chest hairs! He may have to wax like the NICU nurses suggested for naked time! They're also more attentive to things around them. Amazing how quickly they know that I'm not in the room! I quickly snapped these pics on my phone so they're not great quality. These smiles sure make the middle of the night feedings easier!
