Saturday we said goodbye to our car.
It's been more than a bit breezy here in Kansas lately . . . sorry about our crazy hair!
And do you notice how golden the wheat field is getting in the background???? I think this week will be a busy one!
Oh yeah - back to the car. I'm not all that sentimental of a person, but more so for sure since I became a mommy. Softened my heart in lots and lots of areas. So I figured this was worthy of a blog post - there's not much else to share lately so this is what you get! Anyway, we have been thinking for a while about getting a different vehicle with more room. Because whenever our little boy actually does get to come home there really would not have been room. So we traded in our small sporty blue SUV and got something a little bigger.
But before we left the old car there, Ryan and I reminisced about a few things.
We bought our Acura RDX the summer of 2008. We were smack dab in the middle of fertility struggles. We'd had lots of testing and sort of had a plan at that point, but were getting really frustrated that our hopes and dreams weren't matching up with God's timing and it fealt as if we were a long way from a pregnancy and a baby. But the Thunderbid had left me sort of stranded on multiple occasions. The last straw was when I got stuck in the ditch at the beginning of wheat harvest and the guys had to stop working to pull me out. Dang rear wheel drive. Before I could get pulled out the neighbors drove by and got their combine stuck on the other side of the road - so I wasn't quite as embarrased :) But still, I think that was it -- and we decided to start looking for a 4-door vehicle in hopes that someday we would need room for a baby - yep, just one at a time was the plan. So we started looking and found our car that we liked, and I remember Ryan asking "Do you think we should get a bigger one with more seats???" And I started planning - we're probably a year from being pregnant, then almost another year of being pregnant before a baby, then a couple years before we want another one, another year of trying, a year of being pregnant, baby # 2 arrives, then a couple more years before we might want another; so we wouldn't outgrow our car for at least 7 or 8 years and by then we would probably want something different anyway. Besides, I didn't want to drive a huge vehicle if I didn't need to and pay the extra money for it.
Oh, the surprise when we found out we were pregnant a couple months later with TWINS!!! I still remember the first time we tried to put two rear-facing infant carriers in the back seat of the Acura. We seriously thought we were not going to fit them and have to trade for a different vehicle - after having it only a few months!!! Ryan was hugging the steering wheel and really couldn't even drive with most arrangments we tried. But thankfully we stuck the kids close together and made it work.
We're so thankful God blessed us with a reliable car for the last few years - it has taken us many places. Lots and lots of trips to Wichita - we really thought it could probably drive itself after all those sonograms and trips to the hospital!!! It safely brought home our two tiny babies - and even got to carry home a precious newborn little girl for some of our dear friends. It's been to the mountains and Oklahoma and to many, many fields. And helped us collect and deliver lots of paperwork and carried us to many appointments on our journey to our little boy. It's been a good car.
But now we start a new adventure!!! Addyson is super pumped that she has her very own "air machine". (her own air conditioner vent) but had a minor meltdown when she thought she would have to leave her car seat stuck in the old car. Braden is ok with the idea too. He can watch birds and stars out the moonroof! But we're all excited that there is room for another little boy who in God's perfect timing will get to join our little family. We're excited to see how God chooses to surprise us this time by when and how He fills the empty seats! And all the places our new car will take us.
Can you believe I didn't take any pictures yet??? You'll see it sometime I'm sure . . . and the purpose of this post wasn't to show off our new ride anyway, but to think about the old one.
