We're still here . . .

So I've gotten a little (ok, a lot) behind on blogging. And since you haven't seen these two kiddos for awhile I'll try to give you a peek at some of what we've been doing!

Addyson helped me clean up in the kitchen. Chocolate frosting is the best! She likes to sample the food while we're cooking as much as I do!

Oh, and see that pink bag? Addyson stores all her treasures in there. It contains some of her favorite toys right now - her hair stuff. I get my hair done several times a day (I get a cut, blow dry, several brushes and combings, and styles - it's really quite a deal). It also has her "puter" (computer - a little learning laptop), her brown purse, and chapstick and other pretend makeup. All the important stuff gets to be in there.

There are plenty of little kittens around the farm. There were 3 little kittens that were found and their momma is nowhere around, so they've been living under the deck at Grammy's. Chloe and Maddie make sure any kitties around our house stay in the shed.

Braden is HILARIOUS with the kitties. He loves to tell them what they are thinking and what they want. He carries them all over the place and loves on them. He really tries to be gentle and loving but at first he sure wanted to make sure to squeeze them tight enough so they wouldn't fall. He is learning to be careful and he likes to take care of them and tell me all about them! Addyson isn't overly impressed with them, which is fine with Braden. More kitties for him!

It has finally cooled off some so we've spent more time outside.

Addyson likes to swing on her tummy - then she can control how high she goes since there is a very particular height and speed that she would like to go and I have yet to master swinging her perfectly.

Image

They have gotten really good at climbing the stairs and the rock wall all by themselves and sliding down.

Image

They are making sure to take very good care of each other. They can fight with the best of them and have a hard time sharing and doing what the other person wants, but they can also be super loving toward each other. Braden is quick to let Addyson know that he will take care of her if she is scared. He likes to hold her hand or hold her tight. This day she was sad and he asked if he could hold her.

Image

She can also calm him down and explain things to him sometimes when he is upset. It's fun to see them growing closer and closer!

Addyson says she loves swimming and "running" in the sprinklers. But this is about as close as she really gets. I think she might be more of a lay by the pool and get a tan while wearing very cool sunglasses kinda girl. We'll see!

Image

One thing's for sure - they love working (which is really playing) with daddy.

Image

Braden was shoveling like crazy and Addyson was a good sweeper too. They like to help however they can.

The corn is all harvested. Winter will be here before you know it!!

Of course after all that playing and working you need a good bubble bath to get all cleaned up!

Image

I tried to take some new pictures to print and put around our house. I managed to get a few real smiles!

but getting both kids to actually smile at the same time . . . not so much. Oh well, that's just them being their goofy selves!!! Want to remember that too.

I love these two. They can give the best hugs and compliments. And the next minute say something so honest. It's challenging to help them learn to manage their emotions but still have their feelings. And learn how to be respectful but still share their opinions and be who God made them to be. They have been so patient as I drag them on lots and lots of errands. So glad I get to spend my days and nights with them!

Vogt Family Fun Fest

Image

Back in August we were part of the first ever Vogt Family Fun Fest. Ryan's entire family headed to Winter Park, Colorado for family vacation. Papa and Grammy and all the aunts, uncles, and cousins!

Image

It was beautiful there! The weather was awesome.

The first day we just looked around the valley to see what there was to do . . .  and tried to adjust to the altitude. The girls found some shopping.

We found a place to get in the water, and throw rocks. Braden and Addyson thought this was awesome.

The littler girl cousins - of course our daughter would be the one NOT looking.

There were plenty of chances for climbing!

The next day we drove a ways and took a little hike. Apparently it was too big for our two kids. They were hungry, tired, and hot by the time we got to the waterfall and water to play in. And they TOTALLY lost it. Ryan and I each carried one kid down kicking and screaming. They were beyond the point of control. I felt so bad for them; they were "not having fun" as Addyson was sure to tell me. They managed to get control eventually over our picnic lunch.

Playing in the water was fun, and when we left this part is when the real tantrum began.

Image

Image

But after lunch we kept driving into Rocky Mountain National Park and took Trail Ridge Road and Fall River Road while the kids napped.

We saw lots of God's beautiful creation.

Image

Braden woke up from his nap in the car just in time to see this herd of elk. He was super pumped!

Image

There was even a mama and baby!!!

Image

Then later these elk were right next to the road. They crossed the road in front of the car right in front of us. We had never seen them so close - they were HUGE!!!

And we saw a moose - it's kind of hard to see in the pictures but it's the dark spot!

Image

Image

It was a fun drive - one of my favorite parts of vacations is always looking at the beautiful scenery and enjoying the weather!

We made sure to watch the Olympics.

The Bolt

We headed to the resort for some fun the next day.

The alpine slide was our favorite. Addyson and Braden LOVED it. They wanted to go FAST. Addyson yelled and asked to go faster every time (each adult could take a rider so they loved riding along). Sometimes you would get stuck behind a slower driver and they did not enjoy that part.

Braden's absolute favorite was the "jumper". He wanted to go again and again.

Image

This time the guy working there helped him jump super high and Braden thought it was the best!

Image

Addyson finally decided she wanted to try so we got her all strapped up and ready to go.

Image

She was barely big enough to do it. And this is all she did. She was scared. She told me "That was fun, but I don't want to do it again mama!!"

We rode the ski lift.

And saw the train come out of the tunnel!

Image

Image

These goofy kids were having fun! Amazing how much they have grown up since we did a similar thing last year. They enjoyed it so much more this summer!

Image

I know Addyson is smaller than Braden, but these pictures make the difference seem incredible!

Image

Then it was nap time!!!

The next day we went back to ride the "red buckets".

Image

Image

It was rainy and a little chilly! A nice change from the heat wave we were having in Kansas.

Image

So we found puddles to jump in - and realized Addyson and Braden had no idea what a puddle was. There has been a drought the last 2 years so they haven't had much chance for rain much less puddles!!

Image

Braden got his face painted - a blue tiger with glitter. Totally his pick!!

Image

We went to a really fun rodeo later but I forgot to take any pictures. We all had fun!!

And here's the whole group!

Image

It was a good time!!

(Thanks Julie for letting me use some of your pictures!)
