Flying High

July 25, 2011

Sunday, right about noon. I’d spent the previous couple of hours on Dyle, DEing greens and tailoring things with all the mats I’d picked up in my BC instance farming with Arv. (Officially ready for Northrend mats, whee!) I logged over to Van to purchase a couple of items needed to make the next enchanting rod, and was debating on whether to send Arelin mining or just go do dailies, when I get a whisper from Fiaked. ‘Hey, I’m working on Skyguard rep. Want to join me? You can get caught up on the questline while I run to Burger King.’

Waitwut? Back up there a second. Fiak? Is farming rep?? And asking me to come along to do something that’s not PvP??? *looks out the window* Yep, it’s still hot as hell and not snowing. So with a slight detour to UC to finally finish up Let’s Do Lunch: Undercity … I made my way out to Shattrath. Talk to the quest person next to the flight path. You are now neutral with Sha’tari Skyguard. Heh. Well we all gotta start somewhere.

I’d started this grind once before on Karius, back in the days when I could almost always be found hanging out with Hartbane.  (Good lord, look at the comments on that post. Fiak telling me to grind PvP gear! LMAO) So I was looking forward to another Time Lost Figurine. Fiak even let me have the first (only) one that dropped! As soon as he gets one too, I’ll get some pics.  Anyhow … we had a great time taking turns looting the mini bosses and summoning Terokk. I used my Guild Standard on the Terokk summons for extra rep. I don’t have the skill that Arv does for gathering a pile of mobs to AoE before dropping it, so that seemed the best place to use it.

We worked steady until about … 3 or so? Then Cayle comes on and is all like ‘You slackers! We haven’t completed our guild challenges for the week and I’d bet Arv is the only one who’s VP capped. Bitches’ So we hit a couple dungeons. Then Fiak took off for awhile, and Van was capped, so Arelin went on one. Then Analogue whispers me ‘Hey, we’re getting ready to run some regular heroics if you want to come!’ Well … I *have* been completely ignoring Kerick’s point gathering. And she even promised to let me heal (I had to DPS the SR runs since Fiak and Zari don’t have dps offspecs …) and who can say no to that? So off I went for 2 regulars and a troll. In the middle of one of them, Fiak links me his Flying High Over Skettis achievement. Dang!

Ok, so now it’s 11pm and I’m at 5k/21k revered. Can I do it? I settle in for some serious grinding … and of course in the middle of it, Cayle wants to have a conversation. Actually, now that I think about it … whispering him at the same time probably helped me stay awake through it. lol. Finally, later at night than I care to mention …

Image

Not bad for an almost all day grind. I really should have done my dailies though … but … mounts!

Image

I rode him back to Cowtown to see who was around. Oh goody, Cayle is standing by the mailbox! I poked him and made him look. Then said ‘I even haz a baby one!’ and pointed at my Nether Ray Fry. That earned me the usual >.< response from him. So predictable …

Image

Fiak, get together with me this week so we can get pics together! Oh yeah, and I’ll send you my leftover stuff so we can try to get the trinket. Maybe we’ll drag Arv along, he doesn’t have enough mounts yet.

Rep Farming is Fun!

July 22, 2011

I’ve been promising this post all week and am finally getting to it. Boss kills kinda take precedence, sorry Arv!

I was puttering around last weekend doing whatever, archaeology I think, when Lyss says in guild chat that she has one of the NPCs in her Protectors of Hyjal group that is needed for the achievement. It was one that Arv and I both needed, so she invited us and summoned us out there.  Once we’d waved, she dropped group and we hung around looking for the last one we needed … and of course any time the two of us hang out, shenanigans usually occurs. Like, him giving me rides on his Vial of the Sands and then dropping me. He did somehow manage to kill me, even though it’s supposed to give you a parachute. But that’s ok, because the parachute worked on the second try, and he managed to kill himself instead. Good times.

Image

Well we’re kinda standing around doing nothing after that, so he’s like ‘Wanna do some BC heroics?’ Now, anyone who’s been around the blog for a bit knows that I like to farm rep.  I had actually already been to Blood Furnace and MgT earlier that day.  Heck, it’s even the blog title!   Do you *need* two paladins to clear any of this stuff? lol. Not hardly. You didn’t need two of them at 80, let alone now. But of course, rep farming is *always* more fun when there are two of you. Farming rep with Hartbane is one of my fondest memories from my Wrath days.

First we headed out to Netherstorm to hit up those instances. I’m travelling in style, not even having to figure out where to go … but I don’t go afk just in case some brat decides to drop me again.

Image

We also hit up all the dungeons at Auchindoun … well, minus Sethekk Halls. We didn’t need the achievement for that one; Arv’s already got Anzu, and Van has been farming for it. Here is one of the great benefits of having two paladins instead of just one …

Image

I actually came *very* close to killing him there. He has forbearance because he had to use LoH. ^.^

Then in Shadow Labs AGAIN I got mind controlled. Good times.

Image

Never did manage to kill him though. We went back to the Netherstorm instances last night and I got MC’d at the end of Arcatraz. Maybe if I gem and enchant my ret gear …

Anyway, after that we headed out to the Caverns of Time. Can’t say I’m thrilled with Van’s human disguise but hey .. at least he got hair! Arv’s is definitely hawt.

Image

Hmmmm …. I wonder if changing your hairstyle changes your CoT disguise?! I must experiment with this!!

We also did … hm. Shattered Halls. And then the NEXT day, we did all of the Coilfang Reservoir dungeons to finish off Outland Dungeon Hero for Van. And did MgT to get Outland Dungeon Hero for Arv. And then last night, we hit up Netherstorm again, and Arv finished off his Sha’tar rep and his 30 Exalted Reputations achievement. Then we did MgT again.

So what happens AFTER the dungeon running is over?

Image

Maybe Arv didn’t know this … but I’m betting he probably did and is just exploiting it … if you get naked (or do anything remotely worthy of screenshotting) when I am around, there is a 99% chance that it will get posted to the blog.

Ok, I guess the final shot is proof that he KNEW he was getting screenshotted. This one makes me want to crank up some Rihanna “S&M” ^.^

Ok, that was worth waiting until Friday for, especially with the fresh pics from last night. 😉

Baleroc Decimated

July 21, 2011

I’ll be perfectly honest here … it took us much less time to figure this out than I expected. I think I’ve said that on every Firelands  boss so far, though.

We read multiple strats, combined those with what we’d learned in our short-lived pulls the night before, and emailed suggestions back and forth during the day yesterday. Ultimately, we went with me healing the first two crystals, with help from Zarm.  Then I switched to tank healing and stayed on the tank for the duration, while Slice swapped over to crystals. I believe Zarm flexed between the two throughout the fight, although since he helped a *lot* on the first ones, he ended up with as many or more stacks than I had by the end of the fight.

To stack them up super fast, we popped Time Warp when the first crystal appeared. We had a four DPS crystal rotation, but it started off with Cayle taking as many stacks as he could, basically until he died. He was trying to get up around 20 stacks. We did our best to keep him up, but Lyss soulstoned him so he could pretty much just be a sacrifice. Seriously. Any fight where we get to sacrifice Cayle is an awesome fight. Once Time Warp faded I would use Divine Favor for the haste buff. Based on advice I had read elsewhere, I was using Holy Shock on CD, interspersed with 1 HoPo Word of Glory and Flash of Light as filler. Now, any other time I would not use Flash of Light except for the occasional Infusion of Light proc. But since the idea here is to cast as many heals as possible in the duration of the crystal to build stacks, there really is no other option. This strat was allowing me to get anywhere from 60-90 stacks, depending on how long Cayle lived. The effect of the huge stacks when I swapped over to tank healing was quite impressive.

This first shot is from one of our failed attempts, but I have to show it. It’s not every day you get to land a Lay on Hands for 1 million hitpoints!

Image

This was during a Decimation Blade. Make sure you pay attention and are ready for that ability … it will knock your tank down to 10% of his health and cannot be mitigated. Arv and I coordinated which turn we would be using our LoH as it is naturally a great way to bring him back to full health. But you won’t have one for every time it comes up (unless you’re stacking paladins I suppose) so timing big heals to land right after it hits is going to be necessary. I had him die on me once just a tenth of a second before a Divine Light was going to hit. Very frustrating.

As you can see there, I had 99 stacks at that point. I believe I had 87 or 88 on our kill. Is there a better way to do it than sacrificing someone? Perhaps. But it worked to get the stacks quickly. An unfortunate side effect of the heavy FoL usage meant my mana pool took a beating though. On some of the close attempts my low mana warning kept screaming at me, even when I had Divine Plea and Arcane Torrent on CD and had also taken a mana pot … with my alchemist stone equipped. Was I going to run out? Probably not … but when that warning goes off, I instinctively hold back. That can’t happen here. So I made a change a couple of pulls before our successful attempt … I put my (dammit! my mind is blanking … what’s the name of the VP trinket? oh yeah …) Core of Ripeness on in place of the alchemist stone. I lost a chunk of haste from the stone, but I gained the on-use spirit increase, and I happen to be pretty good about clicking the damn thing on cooldown. It was enough to keep my mana from yelling at me, at least.

Image

Look at that, we even let Cayle live! (after he used the soulstone of course)

The one thing I didn’t swap in, was the gloves that I won last night on Rhyolith. I gemmed them, enchanted them, reforged them … and then forgot to save them to my holy set. Doh!

Let’s see if I did any better on the lineup shot this time. Between Ring of Frost and hunter flares, you guys make it hard to get good screenshots. Bitches!

Image

LtoR: Adoe, Galanna, Zerlegen … yes, that’s right folks, three, count em, THREE huntars. Liyhe is sitting in front of me. Then we have Lyssianna, Cayle, Pix, Cayle’s sunflower, Zarm, and Arvash.

4 of 7! I still can’t quite believe we’ve gotten this far already. The pulls on Alysrazor though … well, I’ve said it before that I think a fight is going to take us longer to learn, and then the team goes out and proves me wrong, so .. maybe she won’t be so bad after all.

Rhyolith Driven to his Knees

July 20, 2011

Yay Tuesday, time for more Firelands! (Sorry Arv, the other post will have to wait until tomorrow … or maybe Friday since we’re gonna kill Baleroc tonight!)

Trash clearing went very quickly. I guess after a couple weeks of doing it we’re pretty comfortable with knowing what to expect. Arv chain pulls like a madman, from one end of the zone to the other … it’s a beautiful thing, as long as I can talk someone into putting a mark on him so I don’t lose him.

Shannox was … unbelievably smooth. One shot, no deaths. I was reading on another blog earlier this week how they had issues with their DK tank’s damage taken being really spikey and hard to heal on this fight. I’m wondering if that was previous to some of the hot fixes that have gone in, because Cayle wasn’t hard to heal at all.

Vysh let loose one of his now-infamous goblin rockets on the trash leading up to Beth, cracking up the whole raid yet again.

Slice had me on the Away Team for Beth this time. Arv got to listen to me bitch about how much I hate being on top. I dunno how he puts up with me sometimes, but he still asked me to help with Master of the Molten Flow after the raid, so I guess I didn’t annoy him TOO much. It actually went pretty well. I’m glad I got the chance to prove that we can kill her no matter which healer has the webtop assignment. I still can’t keep Lyss alive  though. NFC what the deal is there. I wonder … ooh, Sorak actually put logs up (not including Shannox because he’s a slacker)! Yeah, that second attempt, it *does* look like she just didn’t get heals. Sorry Lyss, I honestly am not sure what happened there.

Oh, um … hm. This doesn’t look so good.

Apparently I killed *myself* on our successful attempt with HoSac…. again. I’m pretty good at that. >.<

Ok, anyway .. on to new content! Rhy was reportedly bugged on last week’s attempts. We figured him out pretty quickly this time. It took .. four pulls. Zarm was calling out which leg to DPS, and got compliments from raid members on his driving. Cayle has something to say about that, however …

“btw I was driving, zarm stole my thunder. biches~”

Yes, that is a direct quote complete with spelling error. ^.^

By this time, someone had given me assist, so I was able to amuse myself by playing with the mark on Arv’s head. He liked purple diamond, but that wasn’t very easy for me to see against the orange. I changed it to moon and kept up with him a lot better.

Much like Khizzara, I was completely taken by surprise when Rhy actually went down. I was still popping CDs and spamming heals! I never even got to use my Angry Man. :\

Image

I think I got all 10 people in the kill shot, but once again, Lyss got a better photo than I did.

Image

LtoR: Zerlegen, Cayle, Pix, Liyhe, Zarm, Lyssianna, Vanicus, Adoe, Arvash, and on the far side of Arv’s huge guild page, Vyshus.

We pulled Baleroc seven times. I don’t really want to talk about it yet. They say once you get the mechanics the fight isn’t too bad. We don’t yet get the mechanics. Tonight though we’ll be fresh and we have all day to study and come prepared.

Great job, guys, 3/7 woooo!
