So Long, Skadi

March 28, 2014

Finally, after how many years and more than one losing roll, I got Skadi to cough up a blue proto-drake.

I still need 8 more mounts to get to 200, however, so I have quite the circuit for Van to run each week. I did try Malygos last weekend for the first time and he was easy enough so I’m still not out of Northrend but at least now I don’t have to visit both coasts.

Also, no pics, but while seemingly everyone else and their dog has been busy killing demons in Diablo, I’ve kept working on leveling my classes in WoW. I worked on my enhance shaman last night. Now, keep in mind that I’ve never played a shaman past level 68, and never played enhance until I boosted this one from 1 to 85. So I was pretty proud of myself when she took down Torik-Ethis last night. He’s a level 87 rare mantid, one of those with blade flurry and the tornadoes that can be a real pain as melee. She was level 86 and wearing all quest greens … no ilevel 450 BoA weapons for her. I think I’m getting the hang of it quite nicely. By the end of the night she had reached 87 and joined Huna at the Shrine.

RaFing Around

December 11, 2013

Just a few shots of some of my Recruit a Friend pairs as they tool around Azeroth.

Conie and Leion make new friends in Azshara.

Oranis and Ileida have made it the farthest, all the way to Northern Stranglethorn. Those water striders sure do come in handy!

Just a note of warning … with the new in-game interface, you’ll get a popup notice when you are eligible to select your reward. If you’re choosing a mount, MAKE SURE you are on a character level 40+, because they don’t send the item in the mail to all your characters … they plop it into your bags and it is soulbound. This isn’t an issue with pets, but the Zhevra still requires level 40 to learn.

I was on Wega when I got the notice because the first thing I normally do is log onto a bank alt and take care of my auction business. I didn’t think ahead and ended up with the Zhevra sitting in the bags of a level 14. So now Wega has a RaF partner as well, and I went a step further and gave her and her lock buddy heirlooms to make it go even faster. Meh, I need her leveled anyway so she can open all the lockboxes taking up space in my bank. Yes, I KNOW I could put in a ticket and Blizz would take care of it for me, they are good about these type of things. But I’m having fun with it so why not? There are other benefits as well … last night they got the Echeyakee quest, so I logged Juna on and got one for her. Back when she leveled through the Barrens, well, she was my first character so I was still learning. Plus, we didn’t have 50 freaking stable slots. We had five. FIVE. Plus, there was the whole training skills to the pets and … bleh. Huntering is so much easier these days. Point being, she just couldn’t afford to have him take up a stable slot. Now she can. 😀

One Week AAAAAAHHHHHH

August 20, 2013

omg omg the patch is in one week what ?!?!

Yeah ok it’s not like I didn’t know. I’ve known since the info was leaked well over a week ago. So what do I still want to get done over this final week?

Obviously, killing Lei Shen is priority. We have tonight and tomorrow as our regular raid nights to get it done. We should have our full group available. Cross your fingers.

Then there is Battlefield: Barrens. I’ve gotten four toons through it, three of which also finished the weekly to get the title. Kalyon doesn’t really care if he gets the title; he was the first toon to kill the Lich King while it was current content, so he is Kingslayer for life.

Which brings us to Rozjin. As you might guess from the name, he is a troll. Last night after working off Adryen’s bonus xp, I wasn’t ready to log off yet (partly because there were people on in guild and it’s always fun when there are people making fun of Arv chatting). Let’s see … Roz is halfway through 88, has 43 minutes on a carousel buff, and full rested xp. Let’s do this! I didn’t even think of the Barrens until he was almost 89, then the thought hit me … I have one week and full rested xp. If I can at least get him to 90, I bet I can get guildies and stalker ID friends to help me with the scenarios and maybe even burn down some commanders. Adoe always has fun with that. Arv? Slice? It would be a real shame if my troll didn’t get Darkspear Revolutionary for his title.

BTW I realized after one quest hub why I hadn’t finished leveling him yet. Frost is BORING. It used to be fun. Back in Cata, there were big old Deep Freeze crits that were so awesome they made me weep with joy. Now it’s just … sigh. So I went back to fire, which is how Roz originally leveled. Pyroblast! is just plain FUN.

Leveling Alts

April 24, 2013

No pictures today. Deal with it.

I’m curious about something. Alts. Which ones are people leveling? I don’t mean specifics here as far as classes or races that they like. I mean level-wise.

Let me explain my own situation. At the start of MoP, I had 11 max level characters and one level 82 that I never quite managed to finish. (She/he languished at 76 through the end of Wrath, also, thus has never actually achieved max level at any point.) Currently, I have 3 max level characters. The other 8 still sit at 85-86, the 82 has made it up to 86, and I’ve leveled the warlock from scratch up to 85. So I have 10 level 85+ now sitting around waiting for me to take them through Pandaria.

So what am I doing then? Rolling babies. Yes. I KNOW. I have enough toons. I had to delete toons to make new ones. But …I don’t know. I just *feel* like running around lowbie zones, happily licking flowers and capturing murlocs so old man Calston can have a pet. And I didn’t make just one. I made three. I know what you’re thinking …

‘But wait! Don’t you already HAVE lowbies that you haven’t leveled?’

Yes, yes I do. My panda hasn’t even made it off the turtle yet. I have others that are not so low that had hopes of getting leveled someday as well, like the shaman at 60+ and the rogue at 40+.

You others out there. I see you leveling the ones you already have. I see you gearing up multiple alts in LFR. (Of my 3, only the main is geared for anything other than MSV. The third … um … what is the ilevel for heroics, anyway?) I see you taking multiple toons to the Isle of Thunder day in and day out. And here I am, quietly puttering around on toons that aren’t even able to choose a spec yet, in a guild where only one or two other people are logging in.

Part of the reason I bring this up is because the PTR patch notes indicate a 33% nerf to the xp needed to get from 85-90 in the next patch. Are there others out there like me who just aren’t really motivated to finish off their high-level toons? Will this nerf get you to focus more on those characters to get them leveled?

I really don’t think it will make a difference for me. It’s not that I dislike Pandaria. I like it quite a bit. I like it even more now that I’ve seen everything and don’t feel like my alts that go there have to follow a designated path for leveling. Kirgra has been having fun just riding all over the countryside, hunting down rares and camping spawn points for the BoA weapons. I enjoy the leveling part. It’s just the other stuff that comes after it … especially LFR and Isle of Thunder. (The lock is hopefully the exception since she wants to see the green fire questline, but she has plans to level through Pandaria with a friend, so she’s in a holding pattern temporarily.)

There. Have I rambled enough for one day? Good. So tell me … what level are your alts and what have you been doing with them?
