Finals Are Finally Here…

Ok, I am not as excited about it as the headline would have you believe.

Financial Accounting final was last night. I carried a bushel of test-anxiety into that exam. Studied all weekend and all day yesterday. Good thing too as I’m highly confident I scored A’s on that final and the course.

Studying, just another word for being prepared. Being prepared applies to education, and to losing weight. Prepare, prepare, prepare so that when decision time comes you are in the best possible position to make the right choice.

Tomorrow night is my Business Law final. I’ll study tonight and all day tomorrow so I can kick the snot out of that one too.

What are you kicking the snot out of today?

Recall, each block I add to My Visual Pyramid represents a reason for being better, for losing that pound, for getting healthier, for achieving this purpose.

Today I am proud to announce I have earned the right to another block to My Visual Pyramid…

Reason 92 – Laughter, natures antidote against all forms of agony, it triggers healthy changes in in our attitude. More LOL please!

This one is simple. When I am happy, I tend to do better in pursuing my goals. When I am laughing, I am beyond happy, and my goals are within my reach . Laughter is a critical tool in achieving anything we desire in life, so get happy and LOL!

Thus far I have built My Visual Pyramid as follows; my blocks and their reasons…

Reason 101 – Family, they depend on me for many things; wisdom, guidance, support, and most of all love.

Reason 99 – Cathy, my wife. She is the love of my life and I desire to love her for may decades to come.

Reason 98 – The USA, I am a proud American. I’ve served this nation and always will through it’s think and thin times.

Reason 97 – Faith, that there is a greater purpose for the brief time we are given to live life.

Reason 96 – Knowledge, Tomorrow I embark on my Master’s Degree. I will hunger for knowledge to my last day.

Reason 95 – Happiness, being happy is a great place to be; it is infectious and I want to catch more of it.

Reason 94 – Sex, life is to be enjoyed physically and mentally. Sex satisfies both and the leaner I am the more satisfied we are.

Reason 93 – Graduations, mine, my wife, my kids; seeking education / celebrating achievement should be a never-ending quest.

My Visual Pyramid, Blocks Both Sexy & Smart

Today I am proud to announce I have earned the right to add TWO more blocks to My Visual Pyramid…

Reason 94 – Sex, life is to be enjoyed physically and mentally. Sex satisfies both and the leaner I am the more satisfied we are.

I have oh-so-seldom touched on the topic of sex on my blog, for which I assume most of you are grateful. But make no mistake, I am a stereotypical male who has sex-on-the-brain constantly. I have no doubt, based on my experience, that sex is best when you are fit. Can sex be enjoyed when obese? Absolutely! Can sex be enjoyed more when fit? Absolutely! Therefore sex is absolutely a fine reason to get fit.

Reason 93 – Graduations, mine, my wife, my kids; seeking education / celebrating achievement should be a never-ending quest.

Few moments in life have generated a swell of pride within me more than watching our kids graduate. Likewise when I saw my wife achieve her MBA nearly a decade ago, we were drenched in pride. When I completed my under-graduate degree at age 41, I burst into tears. The achievement of a diploma is not what triggers pride, a diploma is a just a piece of paper. Rather the pride comes from the entirety of the journey; it starts to build the moment you embark on what you know will be a long and difficult road, and climaxes the moment you finish and realize you just did something amazing. Why would I not want to experience that feeling of pride over and over in life?

Trigger Me This Binge

ImageDiet, diet, diet… whether you call your eating plan (or lack of plan) a diet or not, most of us are trying to stick to a set of eating guidelines so as to lose or maintain weight. Now, if any of you are purposely eating to gain your way to obesity, well, there is a simple plan for that; open refrigerator, eat until everything is gone, restock refrigerator, repeat.

There are many evil forces which cause us to go off our eating plan. These evil forces lurk everywhere. They have been seen at sporting events hiding beneath the melted cheese of a plate of nachos. The salad bar, look close at the macaroni salad, blending into noodles it like chameleons are several evils. And be honest, tell me you have seen evil in your own freezer; right there beside that carton of rocky-road… or is yours red velvet flavored ice cream?

These evil forces have just one skill, just one; they trigger us into binges.

What triggers a binge for one person, may or may not trigger a binge for another. My wife, is triggered by ho-ho’s. Give her a glass of chocolate milk with her ho-ho’s and stand clear, the binge is on! Me, ho-ho’s do nothing for me.

Chip Dips, I mentioned nachos above. I know someone who cannot show restraint around dips of any kind. If there are dips, then there will soon be no dip; because she wont rest until it is all gone.  Me, dips are fun, but they do not trigger me into a quest to dip until done. Now chips, many people admit to chips being a trigger. Actually I think it is the evil combo of salt and carbs that is the actual trigger for many. Me, I will admit I cannot eat just one (no, this post has not been paid for by Lay’s).

Me, my triggers are many, but one that is certain to draw me in to embracing evil every time; Rice Krispy Treats. I’d like to meet the inventor of that recipe in a dark alley and go all Hong-Kong-Phooey on him or her. If ever there was someone who ought not have been born, it is that person.

So that is my trigger of all triggers… what is yours?

I Refuse To Blank

ImageEver sit down to type, or stand up, and you’ve got nothing? I mean no shred of an idea what you want to say, share or suggest?

No, liar!

Me, today is one of those days. It happens a time or two each year. The easiest thing to do is step away from the blank page and leave it for another day. I’ve done it, and it is easy. But I’m NOT into easy these days. I find I achieve more when I tackle what is hard.

Instead, I am going to make a post happen here one way or another. How, I’m picking three words at random from the dictionary on my desk and I shall knock out a post about them.

Huh, that’s nonsense? Perhaps, stick around and see if I succeed at either enlightening or entertaining, or not…

First word, Antique… I do not care for a home whose decor is heavy with antiques. An antique or two or three that have sentimental or heirloom status, that I get. But having old stuff for the sake of having old stuff, I don’t get. Museums, society erects museums for collecting and displaying old stuff, go there to look at it all. Do not turn your home into a museum. Note, I do not consider old-people to be antiques. I definitely get the value in collecting old people and having them around the house.

Month, would be word two… what does one say about the word month that others want to hear? Actually I have a question, why does each month have to be dedicated to a cause or awareness topic? April is Community Service Month, August is National Catfish Month, and I’m sure most know that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month… to name three. Come on, I love Catfish and eat is all year long. Similarly I try to be a community steward all year long. And dare I say that breasts are on my mind 365 days a year? Maybe I shouldn’t have… my point, lets dedicate ourselves to topics of cause and awareness, not months.

Hahaha, word three is Hint… I think my dictionary is trying to give me a hint that I should’ve just stepped away from the blank page and left posting for another day. Good thing I don’t take hints very well. As far as hint and the use of the word hint, I’d ask the food-world to stop misusing it. Case in point, tortilla chips with a hint of lime. There is not a ‘hint’ of lime, no, the lime flavor is there or it is not. How little lime flavor there may be does not make it a ‘hint’. To hint is to suggest; you cannot suggest there is lime flavor there, you have to say there is or is not. So get it right, you are eating lime flavored tortilla chips, get the hint?!?!

And with that, I will now end this post with this final thought… Should you desire to try to sell an Antique snow-shovel in the Month of July allow me to offer this Hint, think December!

The progress of the person next to you, of the blogger you read, of the contestant on the reality TV show; their progress may be interesting but it does not matter when compared to your progress. You matter to you, I matter to me.

As long as we are making progress, our speed is good.
