School’s Out For Summer

Well, we survived May and are enjoying June. Wyatt graduated Kindergarten May 29th and the last day of school was June 3rd.

Image

After graduation we checked him out of school early, bought new toys at Target, then went to Jumping World to celebrate. Here are the boys First and Last day of school Pics.

Landon and I painted the big boys’ traditional run-thru signs and surprised them with a silly string battle as soon as they got off the bus.

Image

Once we recovered from the epic silly string battle we went to Sonic for ice cream to not only celebrate Summer but also Rhett’s prestigious class-voted award. (Class Comedian…go figure..haha)

We started Summer with a huge splash. We spent the whole day at Schlitterbahn. So. Much. Fun!

Day Three of Summer and my dear-first-born melted my heart. He woke up early, cooked breakfast and kept the littles quiet so I could sleep in. This was my place setting. Consider me melted. These were by far THE BEST eggs I’ve ever tasted.

So it turns out all the extra effort to make the boys' last day of school special didn’t go unnoticed. I may not have a “real” job or actually get a paycheck but I promise you nothing felt better than earning a plate full of eggs from my boy!

Keep On Rocking in May

May is hard, y’all. Not just the business of May but the finalness of May is hard. It’s hard to say goodbye to teachers who’ve loved on your babies. It’s hard to face the truth that your biggest boy is practically for all intents and purposes officially a Jr Higher. It’s hard to prepare for Kinder graduation knowing it’s foreshadowing the big stage that will be here in a hot second. It’s hard coming to grips with the fact that Summer means full time momma in charge….YIKES!

But…May is also FUN!

It’s fun watching your big boy enjoy his last field day with his fifth grade buddies. It’s fun watching your middle boy finish T-ball. It’s fun watching and listening to your cutie pie last baby sing his heart out at his end of your program. It’s fun hearing tales of your first borns first rock concert with daddy. It’s fun stealing a weekend away with the love of your life to see Ed Sheeran. It’s fun spending a Sunday afternoon with the Astros. It’s fun fishing in the lake out back, knowing that limitless Summer fishing is right around the corner.

So maybe the fun does outweigh the hard of May and maybe we will survive another May after all.

The Big Move

I have nothing new to report today so I’ll catch you up on The Big Move. We decided we wanted to build a new house back in February 2013 We picked out our lot in March, broke ground in June and moved into the new house November 18. It all seems like a big blur looking back because we actually had to move twice. We put our old house on the market May 1, 2013 and it sold the FIRST weekend on the market. We actually had three showings and three offers. It was crazy. I frantically searched for a rent house to avoid homlessness. I found something through a friend of a friend who would allow us to do a six month lease. It was a pure blessing because it was in our new town and less than a mile from Rhett’s new school. So Rhett finished third grade June 6th in our old town and we moved into the rent house that weekend. The rent house was an adventure. We didn’t unpack all of our stuff, just the bare necessities. Landon actually slept on an air bed next to Wyatt’s bed for six whole months, which he carried over to the new house. He sleeps on Wyatt’s floor right by big brother every night.

Rhett’s last day of school and our big move to the rent house weekend.
Image
It was very bittersweet saying goodbye to our old house, but we were very excited about building.
Image
Image
We barely fit into the rent house but we made the best of our seven months there and were so thankful to have found a place to live.
Image
We managed to pass the time rather quickly in the rent house by checking off our Summer Fun List. We checked just about everything off our list for Summer 2013.
Image
In between our Summer Fun list we checked our construction progress daily.
Image
Image
Once all the rooms were sheetrocked, we let each boy write all over their walls. We wrote our favorite scriptures and prayers all over the house.
Image
Landon was at the end of potty training during this transition time and would always go number two in this little corner under the stairs. I just had to laugh because each time I couldn’t find him at the new house he was hiding under the stairs just going to town…haha!
Image
Image
We learned some valuable lessons throughout the building process, mainly that Landon’s forehead is eye-level with the island…YIKES! Poor little dear had that big ole bruise forever.
Image
By November they were just putting the finishing touches on the house and it started to get real that this was really happening. We LOVE our backyard lake view and my favorite touch is my Texas shaped sink in my outdoor kitchen.
Image
The house was finally done and we closed November 15, 2013. Then crazy Jason and I drove to San Antonio and ran a half marathon on the 17th, drove home and the movers moved us in on the 18th. If we ever do this again we probably won’t run a half marathon and move back to back. We were sore and wiped out, but it was all worth it. We are absolutely in LOVE with the house and our neighborhood. It’s so hard to believe we’ve already been here over a year and half now. (good thing I finally got it all blogged…haha!)

June: Disney Day One

Earlier in the year we were looking at pictures from our previous Disney trips with Rhett. Wyatt was so excited looking at each picture. Then he looked up at Jason and said, "Daddy I sure wish I could go there" With that simple statement our Summer plans were sealed. We booked our trip for June 9-15 and decided to take along our babysitter Makayla for extra help. We flew out super-early and made it to our resort in time for lunch. We stayed at Wilderness Lodge and it was the perfect choice for three outdoor-loving boys. We spent our first day exploring our resort and ended our first night with a Backyard BBQ with Mickey. While waiting on our boat to dinner we got a little rain shower which produced a perfect Disney rainbow to welcome us to the happiest place on earth. What a wonderful first day we had!
