February Randomness

  • Today is Two Twenty-Two...2/22...the name of the highway not far from here.  :-)
  • Today I went to the viewing for my friend's daughter...so difficult when children die...
  • Bible quizzing season is winding down...1 month remains
  • Randy's bike ride is fast approaching...6 or 7 weeks I think!
  • It's amazing how much freer my weeks feel without the weekly therapy...and how quickly that time fills up!
  • I think it's time to update my header photo...just not sure which photo to pick yet.
  • We enjoyed a bit of warmer weather the past few days.  And I'm enjoying the longer days.  3 weeks or so until time changes back to Daylight Savings Time and we get to enjoy light into the evening again.
  • My current favorite hot beverage is the "London Fog"...I should probably ask google how to make them at home.
  • So much pain in the various circles I get into...I was meditating on the verse in 1 Thessalonians about giving thanks in all circumstances...it's hard.  But choosing to give thanks really does help me adjust my attitude/feel more contented...not discounting the hard stuff, but acknowledging the small things even in the midst of the sorrow.
  • Well, I need to go tuck in the boys and turn out their lights (I put them to bed around 7:45 or 8 and go back around 8:15-8:30 to turn out their lights.
Have a lovely day!

Time marches on...

So we continue through February.  Today was my next to last family based therapy session.  One more with the family for closure .    I have a homework assignment  to write out how this program affected me.  Truly, I don't know where to begin.  It has been incredible, though, so I'll recommend it to anyone local who has a challenging child.

And here's the link to their book... http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Traumatized-Children-Navigating-Turbulent-ebook/dp/B0165X48M6/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1455152763&sr=1-1&keywords=healing+traumatized+children

I realized that Sunday is Valentine's  Day.  I often try to do something special...should think about that...I should figure out if anyone needs anything for school as well...

Lent starts today...some years I do something for that period of time such as giving up sugar in my coffee (so hard!)...not sure about this year, but should've  thought ahead.

I am writing on my tablet instead of the laptop...not working nearly as well!

Since I last posted...

  • we are now in another month.
  • I had a son turn 16!  Today he got his permit...so I'm entering another "first" for my life--teaching kids to drive!
  • We are wrapping up our Family-Based Therapy (In home therapy, primarily teaching me how to live out the therapeutic lifestyle with our family).  I have a session tomorrow, one next week, then our final session the week after that...then I have 2.5 more hours available to clean and do laundry every week.  :-)  I will miss the constant support though!
  • A small group of us continue to study the book "Ready or Not:  For Battle-Weary Parents" by Pam Parish daily (week days, that is).
  • We had an epic storm (any way that's what it's being called) here in the Mid Atlantic region.  I was pleased that it arrived at my favorite snowstorm time...Friday night.  Everyone was home and I didn't have to worry about snow removal because Randy took care of that aspect.
  • We're getting closer to Randy's bike ride to support the Ulman Cancer Fund.  He's tipped the half-way point in his fundraising efforts...only $2,400 to go!
  • The girls continue with their music lessons.
  • Even after watching them a million times, we still enjoy watching Hogan's Heroes.
  • I am excited that, after the above mentioned therapy ends, I will soon be down to 2 therapy appointments each month.  Mark has an OT appointment biweekly.  That will be all.  Really.  For now, that is...I have a hard time imagining it to be a permanent reality.  :-)
  • Reading material carried with me right now:  "Sabbath" by Dan Allendar, "Ride the River" by Louis L'Amour, "Healing Traumatized Children" by Merkert, Hall, and Bieber
  • Homeschool curriculum update.  I'm not super-thrilled with the curriculum I got for Josiah this year...it's okay and does the job, but I think I'll try something different next year.  I may use this for electives, but I don't think I will use it again as a main curriculum...although it did have some benefits, so depending on the child, perhaps I would...
  • And...I promised myself I would be good to my body and go to bed early.  Like by 9 or 9:30.  So off I go.
Have a good day, y'all!
